Words are easy, so are actions

After yesterday’s discussion on values, what we’re all about and where we’re going, today’s announcement by the Foundation that they will have a badge day at the Dundee United game on 11 May is something that requires us to step forward and do something about.

“Volunteers will be in place at all turnstile areas and supporters will be asked to make a donation of minimum £1 in return for a badge, which illustrates the new Celtic FC Foundation crest.  All monies raised on the day will support our work challenging homelessness in the Glasgow area.”

I’m going to volunteer.  You should too.  It will mean getting to the game a wee bit earlier but it will also mean you can look those values we all preach in the eye.  Words are easy but on this occasion, so are actions.  Let’s do it.

I’ll find out how you volunteer and report back soon.

I can categorically assure you that BILLYBHOY 05 is indeed a Celtic supporter.

Though I have yet to meet him,he drinks with my uncle, and on occasion with my Dad.

He may be politically unsound-!-but his Celtic credentials aren’t.

Wait a minute, did that ornj bee no’ say he wiz fae Brigton?

Please ignore the first part of the above then.

Oh,btw,MICKTT can vouch for him too.

    …………………………………………

I’ll take your word for it. :-)) I think the point I was trying to make, obviously poorly, was that he is much more interested in the Indyref than he is in Celtic.

You’re not a Celtic supporter who comes on here and occasionally talks politics. You are a politico who comes on here to try and browbeat others into voting Yes in the Indyref. You occasionally mention Celtic – usually after you’ve been reminded by other posters about Celtic.

What rubbish you talk, ‘One of your allies in the Daily Ranger’ ……. I don’t read the Record. I hate the rag and they do not represent any views I hold unless by accident. As I said last week, i have not made up my mind about which way I will vote in September. I will wait until summer to inform myself of the arguments for and against and take into account how a Yes or No vote is likely to impact on my current lifestyle and on the future of my family and grandchild.

You talk about bullying. Since you first came on this blog you have tried to ram your views down the throats of others. You have toned down a wee bit recently because of the number of times others have taken you task regarding your agenda. If any of my posts have appeared to be pro Union they have probably been in response to something you have posted and designed to annoy you.

Like Ernie, I wish the Referendum was over because having to read about politics between now and September is not a pleasurable thought.

Just back from Doc and now of to a hospital appointment…Not running away.

I’m going to try and explain my position in a manner that can be understood, i have before, but unsuccessfilly.

I will answer your charge again. I have never ever called anyone a liar or stupid. I would ask that this is acknowledged.

I have been abused a number of times. I would ask you if this is fair?

I think, but I could be wrong on a rare occasion, I have never instigated the debate/argument, but I have always responded to what I consider to be slurs against my country. Such as you have you’ve probably seen. ‘Horrible wee bigoted country this.’ I personally find this absolutely disgusting.

Regarding ramming views: I can maybe accept your point here without agreeing with it, as some people may argue it’s just putting forward my point. Others may take your point.

I will apologise for linking you with the Daily Ranger as I honestly didn’t know you were considering your position.

The contentious bit I think you refer to is myself saying that if you are not for us you are against us.

There are different schools of thought here. Some say if are against Independence you are a Unionist, therefore you carry the baggage such ad being alongside the Tories, Daily Record and the Orange huns.

Other point of view, Which I discussed this morning with a very well respected poster on this site. The gist was if you are against Independence is it possible to segment or compartmentalise your views. Eg: So you are against the Yes vote but how do you reconcile this view with DR which is on the same side as you?

We didn’t come up with any answer.

I don’t want to fall out with anyone on this site but I cannot sit back and let Scotland get slagged of: which definitely happened the first time I posted.

I don’t know if this post will help but I have made an effort.

GCT , re Sevco and promotion. Not looking to start a rammy but Sevco weren’t banished to 3rd division. they were refused entry to SPL and applied for membership of SFL . Therefore , like any up and coming new club ,they are entitled to their desire to climb the leagues – on a personal note , i’m not sure i’ll attend any games between us and them – purely from a personal point of view while they cling to the baggage of old .

I would be amazed if there were not people on this and other sites trying to get people to vote one way or another.

Some are doing it because they care and I would hazard a guess that others are doing it because they are paid to.

The problem is knowing who is who on the internet.

If you’re wondering I am a Scottish nationalist in the sense that I want an Independent Scotland running its own affairs. I don’t live in Scotland at present but will return if we vote YES. If a No is returned I’m getting Slovak citizenship as I am now eligible.

I want dearly to return to Scotland one day in the near future but I don’t want to be a part of Britain and I see no real future for Scotland, the Scottish people and my own family if we vote no.

You must make your own mind up but if you vote no make sure you don’t regret it because I think all the intelligent people who vote no will regret it by the end of this decade.

    …………………………………………….

You have obviously given the matter a lot of thought and have a Plan A and Plan B. I very much respect what you have said and the way you have said it. Whatever way it works out I hope that things work out well for you.

A fair point BUT to quote Margo MacDonald – if you are dependent on yourself, you try harder, you achieve more, you grow bigger. So we would be better.

I was honestly deeply upset on Saturday when I woke up to hear Margo had died.

Scotland is a far poorer place for her passing and I am not sure if anyone else said this at the time but I will say it now – Margo MacDonald was and probably is along with Jimmy Reid one of the two most important and influential Scottish politicians and people in the post war era.

Her words have always been the truth about the movement and I would go as far to say that if she had never gone into politics we might not even be having this referendum.

God bless you Margo and I hope we make you and others proud this year.

  10. GCT

“Again I ask . . . what are you all feart of?”

A bit of a loaded question, Tom, but I’ll answer it as the big scaredy-cat that I am.

What I fear is that justice will not be served and there will be an official statement of Ranger’s club continuity in the record books when the club that plays out of Ibrox win something major that they have won in their previous guise.

Why I did not quit when their fans began to support a Division 3 club is that the situation was not resolved. During the minimum 3 years that they would be outwith our orbit (Cup competitions apart) I could believe that justice was either yet to be served or just about to be served.

As I see it, no authoritative body has stated clearly that they are the same club with a continuing history. Stuart Regan wants to convey that viewpoint or state that it is an unimportant matter for him whether they are or are not the same. But he has never stated that, in the eyes of the law or the SFA, they are clearly the same club.

Now, if an Ibrox club is playing us and wins a SPFL title or a SC or LC and it is added, in the official SFA records, to the tally that the original club accrued, then the jig is up for me. I would no longer be able to deny that there has been official collusion in creating and preserving the fiction of continued life after liquidation.

That is what I fear. That we will be playing in a rigged league. Many CQNrs have already reached that conclusion; mine is merely delayed.

However, I fear that I am telling you nothing that you have not been told before. So, can I ask you, why you still feel you are awaiting an answer? Were you not listening? Or do you want a different answer?

Complaint to the BBC from the Sons of Sevco Vanguards Onion Trust

The Sons of Sevco Vanguards Onion Trust have this morning written to the BBC demanding an explanation over the live television broadcast of the Ramsdens Cup final between The Rangers and Raith Rovers at Easter Road on Sunday.

Not for the first time, and we are certain it will not be the last, the bias shown by the BBC towards The Rangers has spoiled the enjoyment of the vast majority of our 500 million fans who were unable to obtain a ticket for a major cup final.

Like all decent-minded patriotic British citizens we are somewhat perturbed that the match commentary was not in the Queen’s English. This is an insult, not only to The Rangers, but also to our brave young men fighting for Queen and country against guys in sandals in the war against terrorism.

We would also like to know why an ex-employee of Celtic FC, and a current season-ticket holder at Celtic Park, was employed to do the match commentary in a foreign language. The Sons of Sevco Vanguards Onion Trust have hired a foreign language expert who reliably informs us the commentator was making disparaging remarks about The Rangers, and it was obvious by the way he raised his voice when Raith Rovers scored their controversial goal that he was delighted. But then can we really expect any other reaction from an organisation that employs Graham Spiers, Stuart Cosgrove and Jim Spence?

The Sons of Sevco Vanguards Onion Trust are calling on all of our True Blue fans to withhold their TV licence fee until such time as the individuals above are all sacked. We would also advise the BBC that we will pay the licence fee only after they have handed over their assets to the Sons of Sevco Vanguards Onion Trust.

Since then there have been two meetings that reinforce my view at that point. In fact it is an almost certainty that Art 66 was side stepped.

Either the process is not robust enough to withstand dishonesty or it is and was dishonestly circumvented, either way it cannot be ignored.

Well it can but not without UEFA FFP being a sham.

I think UEFA have invested too much into FFP to want it to be seen as ineffectual, in fact they might welcome it’s weaknesses being pointed out.

All laws fail when the sheriffs are as outlaw as the outlaws. Scottish football though does operate in outlaw territory and needs a new sheriff in town.

Yet again i doff my cap

I have been calling for improved match day experience since MON left and the crowds started falling way back then.

in those days when i suggested standing areas at cheaper prices, the only responses were about folk peeing doon the back of yer legs. Its amazing that it took so long for folks to see where the club was heading regarding attendances

The matchday experience was ALWAYS more than 90 minutes

For me, when the supporters buses stopped getting ticket distribution “rights” it signalled the end of many supporters clubs, which in turn signalled the end for many individuals too. When the buses started to get only 12 tickets for away games it meant that they couldnt run a 50 seater coach and folk who went week in and week out, got out of the habit. Now away stadiums are empty because they denied fans the ability to go to the match with their mates and many stopped going alone.

also the practice of numbered seats often means that even if you get a ticket and all yer pals get a ticket too, you may well not be at the game together since very often we end up spread all over the stadium.

I asked Fergus McCann once if it was possible to have a ticket(even a season ticket) for a section of the ground rather than a numbered seat where you would go into an area of the ground and find an empty seat. The bunnet told me it was legislation that everyone should have an allocated and numbered seat. I dont know if it was true. Or if it still needs to be true

Do you think there is room in the brave new celtic for the old supporters clubs again? where pals met every week and travelled together, drunk together and sat together and generally enjoyed the day oot and stayed in the fitba habit

Or is the fitba day oot just like the Sevco…. Deid..

I appreciate your post above and the effort you have made to explain your position. I still disagree with much of what you have to say, for example, you mention posters on here making negative reference about Scotland.

“Such as you have you’ve probably seen. ‘Horrible wee bigoted country this.’ I personally find this absolutely disgusting.”

You also find absolutely disgusting Scottish born footballers who wear the ROI football jersey. That’s not a viewpoint that will endear you to some posters on here myself included.

Many people on here use the phrase you object to so much because of the anti-Celtic, anti-Catholic views and actions exhibited by people in this country in instances such as the Neil Lennon assault and the Edinburgh jury’s verdict, the Hugh Dallas Email, the comment by Christine Graham indicating regarding the necessity to frame anti-sectarian laws in a way that would ‘even up’ the statistics as it was predominantly Rangers supporters who had been found guilty of this offence. There was also the submission to the Scottish Government by Motherwell FC and Lawrence McIntyre of Rangers FC that Catholic schools were a cause of bigotry and Jim Farry/ Jorge Cadete. This is by no means an exhaustive list, merely some of the more recent examples.

These instances have perhaps given some of us a more jaundiced view of Scotland than the one Jack McConnell sought to promote. Some posters have dismissed concerns by other posters over fears regarding such issues in an Independent Scotland. Can you tell me why you and other Yes campaigners have such confidence that such concerns are unfounded?

  25. It`s a pity they didn`y win on Sunday, as winning the Ramsdens gains direct entry to the Champions league, probably the quarter final stage, maybe even the semis. Then when they were told that they couldn`t compete in it due to them not being in existence for 3 years, it would put to bed the same club shite constantly being spouted.

Just read that back….have to disagree about the pity bit.

  26. mullet and co 2 on

Kevjungle a wolf in Sheeps clothing with that post. The line about being pressurised is really hitting a sore point. Auldheid has done some sterling work. A thankless task but has put real pressure on to do something. Canamalar was one for giving the board no benefit of the doubt on this but seems to have been convinced otherwise.

Ultimately, regardless of how much money Celtic have been done out of … The number of trophies given to the other side… The wicked question is where to from here?

  27. Gold Coast Tom

    Re Independence

    Here’s my take..

NOBODY can predict with any certainty the impact of Independence on Scotland, Britain , Europe or the wider world.

However that does not prevent proponents on either side of the debate asserting with absolute conviction that it will be brilliant or a catastrophe.

Personally I’m voting no. Whatever the outcome, I suspect the world will not stop spinning on its axis.

  28. Richie #TeamOscar on

You may have missed my post, but when referring to BB05 and the Ireland jersey, he was posting in response to someone stating that he felt sick when a Celtic player put on a Scotland jersey.

His response to an anti-Scotland post has been brought up here many times with no reference to the original poster.

  29. GCT…

I recall in the early days following liquidation it seemed possible maybe probable Sevco would be parachuted into the SPL as was. I will say quite openly now, as I did then, if such an event were to take place I would give up on top flight football altogether.

I was absolutely serious and to a man my friends and relatives were in agreement. I recall many a post on this site indicated the OO, the masons, the politicians, the SFA or Doncaster etc would ensure Sevco would get their way.

But what do you know…no deal!

So the new entity had to start at the bottom. Now, it can be argued they were ‘lucky’ to even get in there but the idea Scottish football would shut out a huge supporter base was never on.

Like you therefore its no surprise to me that we MAY see Sevco in the Premiership in the season after next and it could be argued they would have achieved that on footballing merit.

If that was all involved I don’t think there would be many who would carry doubts about it. But…

Had Sevco and the media accepted they were a new club then a lot of our angst would have dissipated. As it is linkages to the old club feed the resentments of financial and administrative cheating, going largely unpunished or punished in theory only. The way the new club was allowed to circumvent the intent of the transfer embargo being a case in point.

Now I find it hard personally to punish Celtic by not renewing my ST but I can understand others being more than reluctant as a result of footballing authorities and (as they might perceive it) Celtic’s failure to front up.

It is a huge pity that the FTTT did not find them ‘guilty’ a lot of what followed may have turned out differently. Even if that decision is overturned it will not have the impact of the original decision. We’ll hear about ‘ its all water under the bridge’ etc and that will engender more angst still. I wonder though what Celtic will do if that happens???
