You’re making Whyte look silly

1334

When asked if the £33m he claimed to have lodged for the purchase of Rangers, was “Your own money from your own personal wealth?” in today’s Scotland on Sunday (SoS), Craig Whyte told the newspaper, “Yes, that was done as far back as November 2010.”  Perhaps not the most useful information to put into the public domain during divorce proceedings.

I think every single one of you who referred to Craig Whyte as a billionaire, or the cheeky “MBB” (Motherwell born billionaire) owes him an apology.  While Hero Whyte didn’t deny he was a billionaire he told SoS he doesn’t “talk about [his]personal wealth to anybody” and that those of you who make continual references to his considerably wealth are “making [him]look silly”.

Let’s be clear, this man does not need you to make him look silly.  Please desist and apologise.

Bhoys and Ghirls, long time lurker, occasional contributor and keen observer. I would like to present you with my two bobs worth.

No-one more than me is enjoying the imminent demise of these cretins. Like many, I have been a victim of their hatred and bigotry and have the scars mostly physically to prove it. Unsightly as they are, and as controversial as this may sound, I received them for being nothing more than a tim, and sought no repercussions. Every day I look in the mirror, I am reminded of being attacked by these cowards, and maybe to a lesser extent my good wife and three kids.

Again, we all have, or are related to supporters from the dark side. I have seven sisters, six of whom are married to blue-noses (May I refrain from the use if the word hun in this instance?). All bar one (hun) are true gents who look after my sisters very well and totally respect our Irish, Catholic heritage and in many respects encourage it. They were mortified and outraged at what occurred to me, sympathetic and empathetic, but what could they do?

This outpouring is no rant, it is neither an essay with a start, a middle and a conclusion. It is merely an opinion and an attempt to paint a picture.

The attack in question was perpetrated by a gang of thugs who were totally aware of my families background and its apparent success. This was forbidden and someone had to pay. Me.

To draw an analogy, Glasgow Celtic grew from very humble beginnings, with a very noble and charitable cause. My Father, God rest his soul, was the sole breadwinner in a large, very typical Irish family. Poor certainly, tough definitely, loved and loving absolutely.

His, and my Mothers fortitude and faith inspired any who were fortunate enough to know them. They were ‘quintessentially’ Irish…hard working, honest, monogamous, charitable with a penchant for all things Christian.

I am not only convinced, but I know how influenced by their example, all my brother-in-laws were shown, that money and hubris were not the be all, and end all, in fact they have embraced the concept.

The old adage ‘keeping up with the Jones’s’ was not an option for my parents…..bear with me i’m getting there!…poor without a shadow of a doubt, but we were all clean and meticulously presented for school, the wee cooncil hoose was spotless and the church visited with great regularity. We were happy.

The neighbours however, not all may I add, as was their want, frequently ridiculed and teased our state of affairs, and at any opportunity did their best to rub it in. My Old fella, always with a rueful smile would console us, and laugh it off, and give you the reassurance that you needed. The poorest man in the world, but the most content and happiest. He lived long enough to see his detractors gone. Not a bad word ever said, about anyone,no mention of previous transgressions, kind to the last. We will however not be so kind, we will NEVER let them forget!

Without getting philosophical, this attribute rubs off, and in the long term pays dividends. Gloating is not my style, humility predominant in my thoughts, thats what i’ve been taught and nurtured.

Like all those nasty neighbours, when we were poor, did they offer a hand of assistance, did they consider our plight, and attempt to quell our thirst and ease our hunger, encourage us and tell us we were important? No, they laughed and sniggered. Their imagined superiority kept them on a life support machine that was always going to fail. The current state of comatose they are in will soon be over, and gladly the pulse will be rendered, flatline..over and out.

    ps. sorry Dad (RIP)

Ignorance is no excuse, neither is acceptance of ignorance of those who should know better !

Religion aside, as human beings surely right should be more natural than wrong to carry out .

  9. Morning Celts and a happy Monday for all the Celts going to work with a skip and a jump, preparations for the party are ongoing but the best party of all will be when we win the league, a very hard game coming up and I hope we’re up for yet another battle.

    A 2-1 win for Celts.

  11. My joy from the weekend was marred only by Pat Nevin.

He has perfected the manner of someone who has achieved great success and knowledge abroad and has returned to benevolently bestow his wisdom on the great uneducated masses.

By his own admission he’d spent the whole period of the match analysis in trying to come up with something positive to say about Rangers. Why pander to a small section of the audience, his time would have been better spent addressing the whole audience and highlighting the Rangers performance is that of a team playing within the financial rules and their support had better get used to it.

To be honest I think my dislike is partially fuelled by his betrayal and the superficial reasons he offered and this quote from Arthur Miller best sums up my feelings about him.

Betrayal is the only truth that sticks.

  12. So at what time do we get drawn away at Tannadice today then?

From it I’m guessing Rangers were ready to bust if Jelavic sale didn’t go through. It lends truth to the Edinburgh lawyers rumours but equally renders them meaningless, at least as far as guessing “When?” is concerned.

You’re right about the small man syndrome, I just hope his son is a bigger man than his da.

  16. For the sake of clarification can I just add that his son will become a bigger man when embraces the Celtic, something I’m sure he’ll do.

  17. Morning all.

I woke up this morning thinking about the chap who complained to Northern Constabulary about our use of the word “hun”. Would I not be right in thinking that the Sheriff of Dunfermline has set the precedent in this situation by dismissing the charges against those accused of sectarian chanting at a Pars v them game, because there were no Celtic supporters there and so nobody would be offended. Poppycock, I know , but precedent nevertheless.

  18. PCS

the fact that they called us Huns in the past should be

enough for anyone to know it isn’t sectarian

They really have a different mindset, because they;ve never had to fight for anything. The mechanisms have been in place to hand it to them on a plate, to make sure their ‘manifest destiny ‘is fulfilled.

    Well, maybe not this time.

As you are all aware, I have been drumming up support and hopefully some money for the Vanessa Riddle appeal.

Can I just give a huge HUGE shout to one Kevin Bridges esq. He played a Gig at the stand Comedy club and all ticket money

    Guilty

IT’S like Cameron and Clegg squabbling over whose half of the ConDem coalition is less obnoxious.

It’s Jedward bitch-slapping each other about who’s the more annoying.

It is, to water down an expression that couldn’t possibly be used in print, idiots calling idiots idiots.

So can we not just stop this pointless bickering? And agree that EVERYONE involved in the terminal decline of Rangers as a viable business is hopeless?

One day it’s the old regime calling Craig Whyte for everything. The next it’s Whyte claiming the crew he inherited it from are the bad guys.

But let’s forget taking sides here, because it’s as pointless as deciding what factor of sun cream to wear in a nuclear war.

Truth is, there’s not a board member or a hired hand, past or present, who can claim the moral high ground in this sorry tale of financial mismanagement and sheer incompetence.

Harsh? Who cares. They deserve it, every one of them.

Whyte’s doing more to knacker any chance of Four In A Row than Celtic could if they went unbeaten from now till May.

He has all the charisma of cold Bovril. He’s as believable as Brucie Forsyth’s syrup.

So what does that say for your Alistair Johnstons and the like, the ones he drop-kicked into touch the minute he got his feet under the table?

Pretty much that if they can’t outsmart Whyte, what chance have they with the Taxman?

And what of the one name that’s been kept well out of things this week? That of D. Murray Esquire?

I warned for about a dozen years that his my-tenner-to-your-fiver bravado was bound to end in tears, that there wasn’t one other tentacle of his empire that ran on such shaky principles as Rangers.

And every time, the ink was barely dry before he picked up the phone to one of his media puppies to spin the line that everything was hunky dory.

Well, it never was. For Rangers, it might never be again.

And Murray has to take his share of the rap.

The internet’s been buzzing all week with gags about knighthoods being stripped for the crime of bringing historic institutions to their knees — but in all seriousness, the comparison between Sir David and Fred Goodwin IS one worth making.

Spending money that didn’t exist, speculating on over-priced purchases with no residual value, culling low-paid staff when profits dried up, staying tight to the right people in high places while keeping pet journalists on a short leash.

Yes, the guy taught The Shred everything he knows…

So between Sir D, your Alistair Johnstons, your Martin Bains, your John McClellands, your Craig Nice-But-Dims and more, there should be more collective guilt sloshing around than in the Royal Bank boardroom at bonus time.

Yet all they do is point the finger at each other.

And the wettest of them all? Sploosh forward Ali Russell, their grandly-titled chief operating officer.

He arrived at Ibrox after a stint in charge of Scottish swimming. Which at least gave him plenty experience of being this far out of his depth.

Because boy, is he floundering. The babbling embodiment of everything that’s wrong with a club engulfed in a tidal wave of crisis.

Look at the way he’s handled the Jelavic business.

The only way he could look any more ineffectual right now would be if he started drawing a wee love-heart over the ‘i’ at the end of his name.

And by the way, what’s THAT about? Is he testing the tolerance levels of the fans by converting to Islam one bit at a time? Is he Broxi’s long-lost brother? Or did he idolise Saddam’s right-hand man, Chemical Ali?

We may never know for sure. But what IS crystal clear is that if what Coisti told the world on Fridi is to be believed, then what Ali claimed was the real story behind Niki signing for Moyesi was one big porki.

Though then again, who CAN you trust to be honest about what is going on at Ibrox these days?

I’m the first one to cane the Ibrox bigot brigade for dragging their club’s name through the mud. But at least with them what you see is what you get, at least they have no hidden agenda.

And at least there’s no argument that they really DO put their money where their mouth is, not just claim that they do.

So, yes, I feel sorry for them as the club they love — no matter how misguided their way of expressing that love — has the life squeezed out of its lungs.

Granted, their pain is all relative; Rangers still pay better wages, have far greater income and stand a way better chance of winning things than most of the rest of Scottish football put together.

But that doesn’t make their current plight any easier to take than it was for Celtic punters when they teetered on the brink of oblivion 21 years ago.

As it turns out, of course, that financial debacle was just about the best thing that ever happened to the Parkhead club.

It forced them into the modern era, made them more transparent in their dealings, led to a new-look stadium and eventually to a European final.

So who knows, maybe Rangers too can come out the other side of this predicament stronger.

All they need… well, all they need is their own Fergus McCann. A self-motivated, hard-assed dictator who makes no bones about wanting to make money out of making them a successful company.

Is that someone out there? Someone — or even a cabal of someones — with the wherewithal to see the tax problems through, finance new players, spruce up the stadium and walk away with a monster wedge and a grateful ovation five or ten years down the line?

A shambolic cup exit at the end of a traumatic week rammed home the message that Rangers need to find that saviour now more than ever.

But as the boos rang round a half-empty stadium, you had to ask whether even the world’s richest Bluenoses might think about putting their money somewhere it would be a bit more secure.

    Like a furnace.

  24. Morning bhoys from a cool hun free mountain.

Is it me but there seems to be a depression hovering around the game in scotland, [ outwith Tim land ]

The reality is sinking in big time, the game yesterday was an insight of things to come for many, ad they didn’t like what they were seeing.

What does the future hold then ?

We will have our time of partying and gloating, well deserved if I may say so, then what ?

All the talk of a newco is futile if they think that any newco will save the game, it won’t, it will save the medias jobs, but they will even be at risk.

The game has a chance to start afresh, a chance of real competition, in the short term Celtic will benefit from a weak hun, of that there is no doubt, but we will downsize, again of that there is no doubt.

I believe that the revamp of the refereeing system in the country is the key to everything.

Honesty and transparency, make the referees accountable for every decision they make, and if they are not up to standard, demote them.

Take Collum yesterday for example, the fear he was officiating under was plain for all to see, he was in fear of being demoted for all the wrong reasons, this has to change, or what’s the point.

The SFA needs to be torn down and honesy men without a hun agenda needs to be put in place, a hard task in scotland I grant you, but if needs be bring in people from outwith scotland.

The status quo can not go on, the game is on it’s knees, or up to it’s knees more like, it has to be dragged kicking and screaming if needs be into the present day.

There is more to life than misguided supremacy over Timmy, Timmy is not going away, Timmy is getting stronger.

I like all other Celtic supporters want a strong league, with fair competition, a strong hun is good for the rivalry, but it has to be fair and honest, without honesty what’s the point.

When the hun go bust I will celebrate like everyone else, but if the oportunity is not taken to create an honest, fair, transparent system in scotland, I for one will give up on the game, and spend the rest of my life persuing other activities that will not stress me due to their lack of corruption and their integrity.

The time is now, do what’s right people, the future is in your hands.
