You’re making Whyte look silly

1334

When asked if the £33m he claimed to have lodged for the purchase of Rangers, was “Your own money from your own personal wealth?” in today’s Scotland on Sunday (SoS), Craig Whyte told the newspaper, “Yes, that was done as far back as November 2010.”  Perhaps not the most useful information to put into the public domain during divorce proceedings.

I think every single one of you who referred to Craig Whyte as a billionaire, or the cheeky “MBB” (Motherwell born billionaire) owes him an apology.  While Hero Whyte didn’t deny he was a billionaire he told SoS he doesn’t “talk about [his]personal wealth to anybody” and that those of you who make continual references to his considerably wealth are “making [him]look silly”.

Let’s be clear, this man does not need you to make him look silly.  Please desist and apologise.

We need to sell the game to the public, we need a PR blitz like the EPL gets (the best league in the world? Aye right, but plenty believe it).

‘A strong hun is good for competition’

A strong hun is never good – for anything decent. It has had a toxic effect on both Scottish football and Scottish society for a century.

In a hun-free environment others may well flourish as D Utd and A/deen did 30 years ago – both reaching finals of Euro Cups.

D Utd, in fact, would have reached an EC Final had they not been cheated in Rome.

  6. I really feel that if Celtic avoid defeat on Wednesday then the league is almost within sight. The winning run has to come to an end and Tynecastle is always a tough one.

Might be a draw but looking at Hertz yesterday I feel we can go and win by the odd goal. They are always up for it when we come calling so it will be a battle. Be nice to get the title wrapped up early so we can use some games to blood a few youngsters and fringe players.

We have never been in a stronger position than this in my lifetime. The team need to stay focused and show no mercy. The treble is very winnable.

A very enjoyable weekend. Hopefully many more to come.

They always up their game for us at tynecastle, i think they see it as a cup final when we go there. I think we are due another win there though and in the last few months (finally) we have learned how to win the ugly way, hence the great run we are on. I see us winning and our fans doing a conga. I’d be happier with Forrest starting and mulgrew back at CH!

What I really ment was we as a club need competition, and I was blinded by the fact that the only real competition we have presently is the hun.

They will go down the pan, and we will downsize, so there will be competition soon enough.

I will reiterate my point though that without a fair refereeing system, it will be same old, and in the fullness of time it will be back to where we are today.

The argument appears to be growing that Scottish football needs a strong Rangers team. This is a myth (the latest in a long line) that needs nipping in the bud quickly.

There were many loud voices who once stated that Rangers would be finished if the club ever signed a Roman Catholic.

History has suggested otherwise. Let them pay the tax bill and suffer the consequences – it’s a mess of their own making.

Had a wonderful thought last night. If all the events happen as we hope they happen. Liquidation, newco returns at the bottom of Division 3 with a team full of youngsters…..it might be decades (if at all) that we ever have to experience defeat to the huns again. And they might never win another league title in my lifetime.

I agree. They detest us more than anyone. I suspect it’s because Hibs are so bad. There is a sinister element to their support and there will be even more than usual this week as the Rangers fans are hurting. They will be in attendance with their mates.

It’s not uncommon in Livingston and the east for Hearts and Rangers fans to attend each others matches and even change teams back and forward. I know two guys who have changed from Rangers to Hearts twice and back again. They go to Tynecastle when we are there and when they play Hibs.

I would play Sami in his wide position and go Hoops and Stokes up front with Commons and Jamesie on the bench. We need players who will battle and I think Stokes and Hooper deserve to start. Jamesie can come on for Sami after 60-65 mins.

I think if we want an invite to another league then we have to stop declaring loudly our opposition to Newco.

We need to keep quiet about it let the SPL and SFA openly and voluntarily make the mistake of thinking that we will accept this situation readily. Naturally nothing should be signed in our name.

Rangers threatened with FIFA action over Mervan Celik transfer fee

    Feb 6 2012

MERVAN CELIK insists his former club GAIS are due £240,000 from Rangers as the Swedes threaten to refer the matter to FIFA.

The winger is at the centre of a compensation row after suggestions the SPL champs don’t have to pay anything for Celik because GAIS failed to offer him a contract at least 60 days before the end of his previous deal, which expired in December.

That would mean they would get nothing and Rangers could land their new man for free.

But GAIS insist they did comply with FIFA regulations by offering Celik a contract and stress Rangers will have to pay up. Now, that claim has been backed up by Celik himself.

He said: “GAIS offered me an extension and this can not be misinterpreted.”

The Swedes have threatened to take the matter to FIFA if Rangers don’t cough up.

Chairman Christer Wallin warned: “If Rangers make a big deal of this we will turn to FIFA. We have all our paperwork in order.”

  20. Good luck to the Swedes in getting £240K out of the huns.

Scottish football needs a strong Rangers – why?

We are always told that everything bad in the world of Scottish football comes from the fact that two big clubs dominate. So why not get rid of one of them? We are told that sectarianism is an output of o** f*** rivalry. So why not end it? We are told that other clubs lose out on tv cash because of the unfair allocation. So why not change it?

A world without Rangers allows 12 clubs to split tv money in a more equitable fashion.. It allows the Hearts, Dundee Uniteds and Motherwells to look forward to higher league placings and longer cup runs. They might even see attendances rise as they are more competitive.

No, Scottish football doesn’t need Rangers to survive. In fact it could just be better off without them.

  21. ………….still laughin………bitter bampottery….I defy anyone to come up with a better put down

  24. Barcabhoy @ 10:04,

Good analysis as per – the way your good self and many other Professionals have been countering the myths of the bale-out Troika – the MSM, SFA & SPL – has been excellent.

The idea that Scottish football could lose a huge tranche of TV money is a Herring Rouge, for all the points you make – the main point is Celtic will be BETTER off.

The bigger picture is BSkyB British Football Subscription –

In Scotland I would imagine most subscribers to Sky Sports will carry on, they will want to watch their team, the national team and the FAPL, La Liga etc – That’s why they do it at the moment only change is the R@ngers supporters lack of loyalty may mean a drop among that fanbase.

Also many licence premises may find the huge expense of their subscription as not viable without the income from the Glasgow Derbies – bearing in mind the EU ruling on Satellite subscription may have affected this anyway.

In England it might be the last straw for many R@ngers supporters but as I am pretty sure BskyB count the Glasgow Football supporters subscribing in England as FAPL anyways it should have little effect and would have no effect on the licensing trade – very few establishments depend on the Glasgow derby to make Sky Sports viable.

Northern Ireland could be interesting – What percentage subscribers are looked on as SPL rather than FAPL.

All in all a re-balancing of British Football TV deals should have minimal percentage impact on Celtics TV income if we do the negos right.

    NOW

What makes a huge difference to our income is UEFA money every year, we will be all but guaranteed European Football and if our board have any business acumen (I know you have a beef with this) they will ensure we have a squad that can qualify EVERY year for the GROUP stages.

  28. Allowing a newco huns straight into the SPL won’t make them strong.

    They’ll have no money.

They’ll have no prospect of playing in Europe for three years.

Their fans won’t pay to watch dross being humiliated on a weekly basis.

Better for them to start in the third division and build themselves up gradually so their expenditure matches their income.

That will give a financial boost to the lower divisions as the huns progress through the divisions.

  29. Scottish Football has IMO had two “Golden Eras” in European Football.

The mid 60s through to the mid 70s. Celtic winning the big one, another Final, two more Semis. Rangers winning the one that no longer exists and getting to another Final. Various other clubs getting to semis etc.

    and

1980 to 1987. Celtic the QFs of the big one, Aberdeen winning the CWC and the SC, Utd being cheated in the SF of the big one and getting to UC Final.

The last time Rangers were nowhere men, they didn’t register in the title races. If they go bye bye I can see at least 2 clubs (mibbie more) rising to challenge for the honours. This is a once in a generation chance for Utd, Hearts, Aberdeen, Motherwell and even St Mirren to be a Giant instead of a Minnow. They must take it or their fans will NEVER forgive them!!!!
