You did this in 2012

1024

Every year we ask you to put your hand in your pocket for various causes and every year you react, but never more so than 2012.  You responded magnificently to the Wee Oscar Appeal, which from Celtic fans in total raised £31k in a bucket collection in September and £27k at a race night last month.

It is breath-taking to see the work done by those who, without thought for their personal sacrifices, decided this young boy would get the best chance possible.  The photographs of Oscar are an inspiration, but the work done by those who staged the race night and bucket collection – and brought a new CQN badge to life – is even more inspiring.

The events surrounding the charity golf day raised four-figure sums for Oscar, the Neuroblastoma Alliance, the Martin Chambers Ecuador Trust and The Haven in Blantyre, which supports people with life limiting illness.  There were smaller donations too, each one a credit to the organisers and to those of you who contributed.

The overwhelming majority of this work, and pretty much all donations, are made by people who don’t want any thanks and would be horrified by publicity.  In most instances the beneficiaries will never know their names.  I’m in the really fortunate position that I get to see a lot of this happen and I can assure you it is awe inspiring.  You are in the company of many great Celts.

This club is not Neil Lennon’s or Dermot Desmond’s, it’s yours.  Celtic will win and lose many games but that will change nothing that is really important.  You are the person who will make it a unique force for good in the world.  That is our challenge for 2013.

Thank you for all your help, take care and have an absolutely fantastic Christmas.

    Hail Hail.

I was in a nice pub – the bull – in a wee village outside Worcester. Youngish lad behind the bar – broad Brummy accent – takes the order then, on hearing my accent, asks what part of Glasgow are you from? I was somewhat surprised as the usual question is only what part of Scotland are you from? Turns out his father and all his family are from the Whiteinch area.

Inevitably I have to ask about which team and gladly he has been taught well and is a Celtic supporter. As you say, we are everywhere.

  7. O.K. so I’ll just post one, its my favourite Ballad of them all

Whilst we honour in song and in story

The memory of Pearse and McBride

Whose names are illumined in glory

With martyrs that long since have died

Oh forget not the boys of Kilmichael

Who feared not the ice and the foe

Oh the day that they marched into battle

They laid all the Black and Tans low

On the twenty eighth day of November

The Tans left the town of Macroom

They were seated in Crossley tenders

Which brought them right into their doom

They were on the high road to Kilmichael

    And never expecting to stall

‘Twas there that the boys of the column

They made a clear sweep of them all

The sun in the west it was sinking

‘Twas the eve of a cold winter’s day

When the Tans we were eagerly waiting

Sailed into the spot where we lay

And over the hill went the echo

The peal of the rifles and guns

And the smoke from their lorries bore tidings

That the boys of Kilmichael had won

The battle being over at twilight

And there in that glen so obscure

We threw down our rifles and bayonets

And made our way back to Granure

And high over Dunmanway town, my boys

They sang of the brave and the true

Of the men from Tom Barry’s bold column

Who conquered the red, white and blue

There are some who will blush at the mention

    Of Connolly, Pearse and McBride

And history’s new scribes in derision

    The pages of valour deny

But sure here’s to the boys who cried, Freedom!

When Ireland was nailed to the mast

And they fought with Tom Barry’s bold column

To give us our freedom at last

    Final chorus:

So forget not the boys of Kilmichael

Those brave boys both gallant and true

They fought ‘neath the green flag of Erin

And conquered the red, white and blue

  12. jude2005…

    Missed the first 2 myself.

I believe there was close to 90000 there that evening.

The Beatles were were No 1 in the Hit Parade at the time with Yellow Submarine. Both sets of fans adopted their own version. We sang “We all live in a Green submarine” and they sang “We all live in an ORANGE submarine” (sometimes it is the wee things that are most revealing).

Anyway there was a lovely headline in the following morning’s paper “RANGERS TORPEDOED”

Andrew, the sights (and smells) of that evening will live with me forever!

  13. jude, I don’t do things in halves, if I’m posting a song its all or nothing, I’m off to bed now , I can here ye whisper Thank God, so Goodnight & God Bless all from a slightly inebriated corkcelt’

    Away in a manger,

    No crib for His bed

    The little Lord Jesus

    Laid down His sweet head

The stars in the bright sky

    Looked down where He lay

    The little Lord Jesus

    Asleep on the hay

    The cattle are lowing

    The poor Baby wakes

    But little Lord Jesus

    No crying He makes

    I love Thee, Lord Jesus

    Look down from the sky

    And stay by my side,

    ‘Til morning is nigh.

    Be near me, Lord Jesus,

    I ask Thee to stay

    Close by me forever

    And love me I pray

    Bless all the dear children

    In Thy tender care

    And take us to heaven

    To live with Thee there

  14. Christmas wishes and blessings to you Paul67 and your Family and all fellow Celtic Supporters throughout the world – CQN is a true microcosm of Celtic Football Club and all that it stands for.

When I lost my ‘mammy’ just before Christmas last year – I took great comfort at the time from the many thoughts and prayers posted (and emails received) from; those that I knew, those I have met fleetingly and bloggers who I had only ever exchanged football comment with.

CQN is at its best when it deals with; hatches, matches (including football) and despatches.

Thoughts and prayers with those missing loved ones at this time of the year – you are not alone – the Celtic family are here for you.

    Merry Christmas everyone!

  15. I was going to wait until midnight but I doubt if I’ll be awake. So, I just want to wish every single CQNer a very happy (and holy) Christmas. Bit, I must say that especially to Paul67 for giving us this site to really be able to express our love of the Celtic. Auldheid too deserves special mention, because of his constant attempts to better Scottish football. Let’s hope we can get Ogilvie to do the decent thing. Tonight of all nights, my thoughts are with Stephbhoy and Normanstreet, who have had the courage to inform us of the pain of their loss. May God give you his peace, especially at this time.

Oldltim, it is my ambition to meet yourself, who sums up a Celtic supporter for me. I well remember your first post, as I’m sure, do those who were already addicts of this greatest of all Celtic sites.

May you all keep posting. God bless you all.

  16. Paul67, a huge thanks to you for providing the forum which allows support for all those good things highlighted above, plus provides comfort to Stephbhoy, Normanstreet49 etc at difficult times.

A Very Happy Christmas to you and Family, and to the entire Celtic supporting Family, particularly those who share the benefits of CQN.

As for Sevco followers, may I wish more of the same for all you

    Hail Hail.

  17. Over..and...Over on

    Paul 67

CQN and Celtic supporters everywhere, Merry Christmas to you all. I must say CQN has gave me some of the greatest and most satisfying days of my life this year.

For all the poster’s who have lost partners or relatives this year, my sincere condolences.
