You did this in 2012

1024

Every year we ask you to put your hand in your pocket for various causes and every year you react, but never more so than 2012.  You responded magnificently to the Wee Oscar Appeal, which from Celtic fans in total raised £31k in a bucket collection in September and £27k at a race night last month.

It is breath-taking to see the work done by those who, without thought for their personal sacrifices, decided this young boy would get the best chance possible.  The photographs of Oscar are an inspiration, but the work done by those who staged the race night and bucket collection – and brought a new CQN badge to life – is even more inspiring.

The events surrounding the charity golf day raised four-figure sums for Oscar, the Neuroblastoma Alliance, the Martin Chambers Ecuador Trust and The Haven in Blantyre, which supports people with life limiting illness.  There were smaller donations too, each one a credit to the organisers and to those of you who contributed.

The overwhelming majority of this work, and pretty much all donations, are made by people who don’t want any thanks and would be horrified by publicity.  In most instances the beneficiaries will never know their names.  I’m in the really fortunate position that I get to see a lot of this happen and I can assure you it is awe inspiring.  You are in the company of many great Celts.

This club is not Neil Lennon’s or Dermot Desmond’s, it’s yours.  Celtic will win and lose many games but that will change nothing that is really important.  You are the person who will make it a unique force for good in the world.  That is our challenge for 2013.

Thank you for all your help, take care and have an absolutely fantastic Christmas.

What chanel we on for boxing day game ?

  2. this year has been difficult for me with the loss of my beautiful partner heartbreaking. i struggle everyday with it and it can sometimes feel overwhelming. celtic is a passion that helps me to forget, just for a little while, coming onto the CQN and chatting about football and reading what others are saying helps to distract me.

i know my beautiful partner would have been happy celtic are in the last 16 of the c/l. she would have been happy that the southsiders are away and she would be happy i have had something to help me througheverything.

    A heartbreaking post.

Tomorrow at Mass I promise to say a wee prayer that you will be granted peace especially at this time of year.

  5. Auldheid’s recollections of Jimmy Smith brought to mind memories of a great player and a strong rumour which circulated around the time of his transfer. Rangers (in liquidation) wished to sign him from Aberdeen and arranged the transfer. They announced they were going sign Smith from Aberdeen to the media. However, at the 11th hour they discovered that he was, ermm, a left-footer and signed Davie Smith from Aberdeen instead. Very believable at that time. Instead of signing Jimmy Smith, Celtic signed Pat MacMahon from the Juniors (Kilsyth Rangers I seem to remember but I may be wrong).

  6. Thanks, WITS.

    I did not know that.

I did know that Brendan’s mother, Kathleen, was Peader’s brother & that Peader had written the Soldier’s Song, which of course he wrote in ENGLISH.

How strange are the vagaries of our history ?

    Good Luck & God Bless.

God Bless you at this time of year.

I hope I am not out of order offering this for you.

    …………………..

I am standing upon the seashore.

A ship at my side spreads her white

    sails to the morning breeze

    and startsfor the blue ocean.

She is an object of beauty and strength.

I stand and watch her until at length

she hangs like a speck of white cloud

just where the sea and sky come

    to mingle with each other.

    Then, someone at my side says;

    “There, she is gone!”

    “Gone where?”

Gone from my sight. That is all.

She is just as large in mast and hull

and spar as she was when she

left my sideand she is just as able to bear her

load of living freight to her destined port.

Her diminished size is in me, not in her.

And just at the moment when someone

at my side says, “There, she is gone!”

There are other eyes watching her coming,

    and other voices ready to take up the glad shout;

    “Here she comes!”

    And that is dying.

    ………………….

Even in the worst of times you are amongst friends on CQN

    God Bless.

  16. I’m writing this when my diabetes is acting up a bit, forgive any mistake that I will have made.

    Paul67 etal.

It’s come to that time in the year where we all praise you and your baby, CQN. I will also comply, I have so much that I could say but it would be far too long a post.

Before I knew anything about CQN or to give you it’s true title Celtic Quick News, not lazy journalism,I would frequent newsnow, that was where I would get all my news about Celtic, I used it every day and one day I noticed the title Celtic Quick News not lazy journalism,I thought I’d see what this new blog was all about, The love affair started that first day, It was quiet when it came on at first but there were some cracking posts so it kept me interested, I don’t know how long I lurked but it was a fair few months before I plucked up the courage to start my first post on the blog.

I can’t even remember what I put in it, but I was told that it was about my trip to Lisbon in 67, as I say I can’t remember what I said, but not long after I got a reply saying that it was a good post, but his next quip was (you should have used some commas & full stops in there somewhere) *You can have a guess who the poster was. I had a look at the post and there wasn’t one comma or full stop in the whole ramble. but I had a few comments about it so I was happy and the duck was broken, after about a year Someone posted up my post again with the comment ‘remember this post’, and about two years later Glasgow Dave re posted it again, On reflexion it must have been not a bad post.

Anyway my reason for this post tonight is to say that my ambition was to try and meet up with these secretive posters, they came on the blog to spread the news That they loved the Celtic,Talk about Football, and Crack some jokes, Noel 90 come back into the fold, give the younger posters a taste of what we are all missing, your quick wit, and great posts.

As I say my ambition was to meet as many posters as I could, One that I would have liked to have met was Kano, A guy who never suffered fools gladly, cutting, and funny in equal portions, and when he became ill, CQN, that haven for Celtic supporters, became a machine for gathering money for good causes, and CQN became even more of a haven for Celtic Supporters that showed they had hearts of gold.

My really good friend Pablophangue posted that we should really try and do something to help Kano, It came to fruition that Pablo, Aldo, And myself, would handle any monies that were collected, I really was just a signatory for banking purposes, CQN the collectors got into top gear, Pabbers and the good Doctor DBBIA started the selling of badges and then we were on our way, my ambition was to meet as many posters as I could, I had a field day that was with the start of the Quiz nights, Four to five hundred sqeezed into a room that wasn’t that big enough for three hundred, But they were great nights, I probably shook hands and introduced myself to whoever was willing to do likewise.

The money was coming in from all corners of the earth, then we hit a snag, Pablo got a job working in Ireland, and Aldo got the job he was after, and I was to old to do anything, So a new committee was formed, can’t remember who was chosen except Gordon J, He took over the running of the quiz nights, good job done Gordon.

As everone knows, we managed to get to our target,if my memory serves that was one of my favourite nights, Punting on the gee-gees, drinking with good friends,I was in my glory, I had met plenty by then, Kanos family was at that race night, and it was a fantastic night indeed.

The Charity work still carries on, re Kano Foundation, and the latest Charity work for wee oscar. I must pass a comment re the Oscar work, You did a fantastic job for wee oscar, the bucket collectors, right up to the organisers, and wee mustn’t forget the donators, who, if they weren’t forthcoming, the charity work would have collapsed.

I could carry on for a while yet but I must pass this wee comment first before I call it a day, My ambition after reading for a few weeks was to find out who I was conversing with on this venominal blog, it would be unfair to mention them all so I won’t.

I’ll tell you a wee story that happened last week Santa gave me a call asking if I would be in on Thursday, I was taken aback but said yes I’d be in, he said around 2.00pm he’d arrive,2.00pm passed but not by much, maybe about half an hour later he arrived, I’ve got a present for you from me (johann murdoch) and Stephen (BT),He went into his bag and brought out a beautiful bottle of Port, It made my day, but that was not all, he dug back into his bag and proceeded to bring out A wine carafe or decanter, and a tray to put the carafe on, I was gobsmacked, and Santa came out with a set of crystal wine glasses, and to crown it off a Celtic t/shirt with Lisbon Lions 67 emblazoned across the chest, CQNers, You can’t beat them, from two men with hearts off gold, I had a job holding back my tears, Ronnie and Stephen, thanks from the bottom of my heart. You made my year.

I’ll tell you how a bunch of inebriates were supposed to take care of four Polish friends at the Barcelona Game, what six years ago I think.

  17. stephbhoy….

Its hard to believe when you are grieving but time does heal and the sadness turns to joy in time, and memories that make you sad will soon make you happy. Auldheid,

I admire your work on TSFM with regard to putting together a charter for the SFA – but I think that if we were looking for a simple message for everyone to take on board and rally together, then ensuring that a credible alternative to Ogilvie is put forward would be a very good start.

Not sure if I will get the chance to post tomorrow – but if not, a very happy Christmas to all of you in Timland.
