You did this in 2012

1024

Every year we ask you to put your hand in your pocket for various causes and every year you react, but never more so than 2012.  You responded magnificently to the Wee Oscar Appeal, which from Celtic fans in total raised £31k in a bucket collection in September and £27k at a race night last month.

It is breath-taking to see the work done by those who, without thought for their personal sacrifices, decided this young boy would get the best chance possible.  The photographs of Oscar are an inspiration, but the work done by those who staged the race night and bucket collection – and brought a new CQN badge to life – is even more inspiring.

The events surrounding the charity golf day raised four-figure sums for Oscar, the Neuroblastoma Alliance, the Martin Chambers Ecuador Trust and The Haven in Blantyre, which supports people with life limiting illness.  There were smaller donations too, each one a credit to the organisers and to those of you who contributed.

The overwhelming majority of this work, and pretty much all donations, are made by people who don’t want any thanks and would be horrified by publicity.  In most instances the beneficiaries will never know their names.  I’m in the really fortunate position that I get to see a lot of this happen and I can assure you it is awe inspiring.  You are in the company of many great Celts.

This club is not Neil Lennon’s or Dermot Desmond’s, it’s yours.  Celtic will win and lose many games but that will change nothing that is really important.  You are the person who will make it a unique force for good in the world.  That is our challenge for 2013.

Thank you for all your help, take care and have an absolutely fantastic Christmas.

Unfortunately most of those who died that day were raw recruits to the Sherwood Forresters, little more than boys, many thought they had landed in France when they landed in Dun Laoghaire.Their officers of course just kept ordering them to charge at the well defended houses and they were cut down in droves,Canon fodder poor lads, dreadful thing war

I hope there was no suggestion of glorification of our tragic struggle in my quotation.

Every life lost was a tragic waste.

I’m away up to the loft tae search through the old vynil records for that one. I think it’s Mr H Imlach, unless I’m very much mistaken, which I far too often am these days. He did a fine rendition of The Foggy Dew as well.

Happy Christmas to all. Faithful and infidel alike.

Just seen the simple Yorkshire man on SSN.

Very disrespectful to Dundee united, referring united as Dundee on more than one occasion.

Should The Rangers now apologies to Dundee united as Chuckles kept calling them Dundee.

The man is a nasty instigator.

Can I just take time to congratulate those clever T.V. make-up artists. Just watched the “Charles Green” video on youtube and the job they’ve done on Jonathan Watson is amazing. Had me fooled for a millisecond.

Surprised though ,that they let that clip out before the hogmanay show.

  20. As a looker rather than contributor I have enjoyed the last few days on CQN storytime ! Fairly put a smile on my face. With Easter road coming up I can fondly remember a defeat from the Hibbees when Chick Charnley scored the winner ! How fondly you say ? Well it was a quote from my pessimistic mate who came away with the line that has haunted him ever since ” awe f@;! We’ve just signed the Swedish Joe Miller ” lol ! The rest as they say is …….

Not heard that one for years and years – what’s the title again so I can get the ole iTunes search engine working. I had a great tape we used to listen to in the car and it got lost on a drunken night on the way back from Celtic Dundee in the 90s – not heard it since. I seem to remember it was a Wolfetones tape???

There is a fairly well known account of Hamish turning up to fulfil a booking down south in the early 60’s. he was accompanied by 2 very young lads and he asked the guy in charge if they could get in with him for hee haw and in return they would each do a wee number.

” They’ll pay there 2 bob like everyone else. And we don’t need any more turns tonight,” quoth the man in charge.

Apparently the 2 boys with Hamish were one Eric Clapton and one John Martyn. That was the calibre of those who kept his company and looked up to him.

I’ve loved the blues for decades but it wisnae blind Blake and Robert Johnston who first whetted my appetite. It was Hamish. God rest him.

  24. I am looking to buy a spare ticket for Dens tommorrow.

Also if anyone has any spare tickets for Easter Road on the 29th.
