We know what to expect from Aberdeen tonight. They will flood (pardon the pun) central midfield, defend deeply and, let’s be clear, they will score any time we allow them the kind of space they exploited at Celtic Park this month.
Question is, what will Celtic do about it? If Stefan Johansen’s ankle knock keeps him out the central-mid triangle of Johansen, Brown and Biton will be disrupted, and surely Neil Lennon will not revert to a central two after the Scottish Cup lesson. The picture is further complicated by the injury to Emilio Izaguirre, which forced Charlie Mulgrew back at the weekend. Mulgrew would be a suitable direct replacement for Johansen.
In 10 years doing this stuff I’ve probably used no more than a few dozen words to praise emerging young talent; it’s been a rough decade in that respect. Without wanting to go overboard in any way, Darnell Fisher has looked more than comfortable at right back in the absence of Mikael Lustig and Adam Matthews. Darnell’s problem going forward will be that he has two excellent international players ahead of him in the pecking order, but for tonight, I would be tempted to bring Matthews to left back (if he can do it against Barcelona….) and restore Fisher to the right back slot. This would allow Charlie to sit alongside Scott Brown and Nir Biton in central-mid.

Does this mean in your opinion that the LNS verdict will become null and void and that the SFA and SPL/SFPL would then be forced to go back to all matches that these compromised individual players were involved in and alter the match outcomes to reflect this new status?
Do you think that it is in any way possible that the trophies ‘won’ during this period would also be declared null and void and appropriate penalties applied to the guilty parties?
In my heart, I know the answers to my questions but I maintain that only a full and open public enquiry will get all of the answers into this unthinkable social scandal in Scotland.

ultimately it will depend on what is submitted. The hearing is not one of witness evidence but primarily on the basis of submissions and any documents produced. The judge will be trying to strike a balance between the evidence at hand and what may occur if the motion is granted. For example, I am not sure it would necessarily be in Mr A’s interests for administration never mind the defenders’. What seems to be assumed on here (other than that the judges and lawyers are members of Lodge Fantasyland no.13) is that Mr A’s case is a strong one. May be it is but if there is doubt about it, that might militate against any order. So there are a number of factors to be weighed and balanced. For example, perhaps the judge will think of what will happen to existing creditors if the motion is granted.
One of the counsel involved is a Dandy Don so I’m not sure where that leaves the conspiracy theorists…

I was disappointed that Fisher did not start against Aberdeen. He was a big part of the clean sheet run and thought he was unlucky to miss out.
While I am a fan of Matthews I think he looks a little short on confidence at the moment.

Lord Tyre satisfied case to answer but says insufficient evidence that Rangers’ finances have deteriorated to point of near insolvency.
Has to be a solid midfield 3 tonight. Dons ran over Brown & Johansen in cup game a couple of weeks ago. As mentioned before a number of our best performances this season have saw Biton as the defensive anchor.
I know Mark Guidi thinks he is a dud, I think he shields the back line pretty well and is an asset.

Cruzeiro are still smarting after their defeat to Real Garcilaso, so will be out to prove a point in this one. Still hoping to be see better things from (alleged) Man U target, Everton Ribeiro though. Cruzeiro also enraged that Fox Sports / Conmebol have ordained this match a 17:30 kick off.
U.Chile are not the force they were a few years ago (they won the Copa Sul Americana 2011) and struggled at home in their opening match against Defensor.

Hard to bet against Velez here. Strike force of Pratto/Zarate being a successful duo. Youth to watch out for being Ramiro Caseres. Paranã were a solid unit last season, but struggled in their first round game at home to Zamora. Be interesting to see of the addition of the new slimmed down, Adriano (and you just know that won’t last) helps them.

Gremio chalked up an impressive away win in their first game against Nacional in Uruguay and will be looking not to slip up at home. However, today’s papers show them as setting up with a very defensive line-up for being the home team.
A.Nacional are being tipped by a few as this season’s dark horses in the Libertadores. Nacional are managed by Juan Carlos Osorio, an ex fitness coach at Man City, who’s well quoted down here and led on the pitch by ex Villa, man Juan Pablo Angel on it. My Colombian (purely business) contacts tell me to keep an eye on right sided midfielder , Wilder Guisão.

Arsenal are a workmanlike Argentinian side who put up a brave defence away to Santos Laguna in their first round (they lost 1-0) with no big stars in their side. Apparently Arsenal’s most popular fansite is called “Arsemania” (honest).
Dep. Anzo held a poor Penarol to a 1-1 draw in their opening game, but don’t really have strength in depth for this level of competition. Name to watch being young striker, Jaime Moreno who will probably plough a lone furrow in this game.

In last Sunday’s Rio classico (Fluminense v Botafogo, which a ‘fogo reserve side won 3-0) ‘mense had their keeper booked for making “sight marks” in the pitch on the 6yd box before the match kicked off. (Having been a keeper, I used to do the same myself, always found it gave you a quick reference/visual marker at corners, one on ones, etc) . Anyway, the carding was for “Wilfully defacing the playing surface”
Anybody else ever heard of this rule?
