Ronny’s Aberdeen-Salzburg dilemma

1430

Before the second leg against Maribor I went into detail about how important it was for Ronny Deila to rest his players.  He did, we lost to Inverness and players spent the bulk the Maribor game looking like strangers.

Since then players’ propensity to look strangers has increased, with the arrival of Stefan Scepovic, John Guidetti and Wakaso Mubarak, not to mention the anticipated return of Aleks Tonev.  Ronny has some serious decisions to make.

Does he flood the team with all this new blood, or allow them time to build match fitness and familiarity?  New blood is badly needed but so is team cohesion.

Any decision for Aberdeen will be made with the visit to Salzburg one week today in mind.  On paper, away to the top seed is our most difficult Europa League game, so we have to be ready.

My expectation is that three, if not all four, of the above will feature heavily on Saturday, which will inform Ronny ahead of his choices for Europe.

Fancy some comfy seats at the Aberdeen game and helping Mary’s Meals as well?  The Club’s main sponsor Magners have again offered us two premium seat tickets for the Jock Stein Stand, which you can win by answering the following question:

Who do Celtic play in the lunchtime kick off on Saturday, 13 September 2014?

Optionally….. if you have £1 available, please donate £1 to Mary’s Meals at this MyDonate page, which sends your £1 straight to Mary’s Meals, then send me your confirmation email, with your contact details to celticquicknews@gmail.com  Competition closes noon on Friday, so get your entries in now and watch your inbox on Friday afternoon.

You can donate more than £1, if you like, but £1 from as many people as possible will be gratefully received, as, like many organisations working in Africa right now, they are encountering a wave of additional ebola-related challenges.

Thanks for helping.

Terms and Conditions of the competition apply and are available here.

UK Government confirms NHS is not exempt from controversial trade deal (Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership)

Unite general secretary, Len McCluskey said “Lord Livingston tried to claim that the NHS won’t be affected, in that case why is the NHS included in the deal and why can’t the government just take the NHS out of TTIP? The government needs to stop trying to pull the wool over our eyes and veto the inclusion of the NHS in TTIP now.”

Is this the same Lord Livingstone of Parkhead that sits on the board of my beloved Celtic Football Club?

The same Celtic Football Club that……….

“…….was formed to significantly change the lives and wellbeing of local people in Glasgow’s East End who lived in severe poverty and lacked opportunity and education.

While the world has moved on in many regards, for some in society not a great deal has changed. Charity and creating opportunity remains a core competence of Celtic and its charitable arm, Celtic FC Foundation.

Our charitable ethos and social conscience will always remain part of our identity alongside footballing excellence.”

He merits a seat on the Celtic Board because he shares a mindset with Tory donor Dermot Desmmond.

  4. We need a settled team, we need a settled system……….I was right about it being a mistake to rest the players pre ICT game, we lost two games instead of one and might possibly have won both if they’d all played against ICT.

Do you think that would that rule out John Guidetti from the starting 11?

Maybe bring him on as sub?

Liam Henderson…can’t believe Ronnie hasn’t given him a chance this season.Going by last seasons form,he’s surely a better bet than Charlie,Johansen and Biton from what i’ve witnessed so far.

    Great bunch of lads!

I’m sure if we stick together with them, either Boris or Nigel can lead us forward brilliantly to a clean sweep.By that I obviously mean that Scots will be at the front spilling their own and others’ blood while they count the profits back in Blighty.

NLMc. As Guidetti cannot play next week against Saltzburg I think he wont start on Saturday but as you say he might get a run out as a sub.I would like to see all the other new Bhoys including Tonev getting some game time. H.H.

  11. BBC reporting of referendum is disgracefully biased.

The RBS and Lloyds story is only being selectively reported. Lloyds HQ has been in London for over 100 years. RBS issued a letter confirming no job losses and no change for day to day account operations. BBC’s source last night was not RBS or Lloyds but Treasury.

Nick Robinson and Robert Peston might as well wear Union Jack suits on the news

Lifelong Celtic supporter, shareholder, internationally celebrated business leader who successfully ran one of the largest companies in the world. Hugely respected by the most senior politicians and investors in the land…

Went to the same school as our hero Craig Whyte…

Why wouldn’t we want him on the board? (thumbsup)

Yep, resting players is a nonsense.

If we get an injury on a Saturday then we call in the reinforcements for the Tuesday/Thursday, whatever day it may be.

Rotating your defence is a particularly bad move. Especially when you rest one who played well in Maribor then don’t use him for the second leg!

The only mitigating circumstance for this Saturday is that we have a number of new players and Ronny may not yet know his best team with them factored in.

That was not a problem up at Inverness though and I hope he has learned from that.

Further to your point, I noticed Liam wasn’t involved at all in the Development League game against Dundee this week. This Development League is now the second team and we were playing our Under18s.

It’s a mystery how the fringe players in the first team squad are going to get any serious playing time this season. We’re carrying the same sized squad as last season with one fewer team required.

Probably, we’ll bleed them out on loan and their fitness levels will embarrass us again.

Seems like Mike Ashleys interested in Sevco and will sell NUFC if required to increase his stak However if Campbell Ogilvie has his way surely the SFA will alter their rules on ownership in the meantime and allow Honest Mike to increase his stake in Sevco if he doesnt find a buyer for NUFC thus ensuring the Spivs get their cash, Mike gets his club and Scotland keeps Sevco????
