  1. Running short of time as I’m just about to head out to Mass but just a wee thought on the home game on September 10th: I won’t criticise anyone who decides they aren’t attending but will you be watchdog the game on TV?

G64, fancy a game of Sclaffbaw on the 10th Sept at Carnoustie?

  5. I doubt if Griffiths will be in the Scotland squad this week he looked in pain as he went off yesterday? And it did say in the last article he was injured yesterday, I’m sure they be a few more too, them sheep shaggers where given a license to cripple people yesterday by Mad Arse Madden.

  6. Thanks for the invitation amigo. Last time I was on the beautiful links I was a young whippersnapper and had the pleasure of Mr Watson and Mr Newton for company. However I’m not sure I could afford VPs taxi fare. Hh

    Thunder Road, good insight.

I was sitting separate from my two sons yesterday (bought additional two tickets for me and my mate). After the game my oldest son was of the opinion that Tierney had a poor game and that he and Sinclair have yet to form an understanding.

I thought the opposite. Although Tierney doesn’t forage as far forward as often as he did last season, when he does I thought Sinclair chose the right option of moving inside to create space of staying wide to receive the ball. Looked to be working to me.

    All about perception and opinions.

Even though mine are always right.

Regarding the “standing up in anticipation”.

It’s not me sitting behind, but a few seasons ago when my Dad and Father in Law went to the games with me, I had to politely ask the guy in front to desist.

Both of them were old and frail, bad knees, bad heart, and therefore not able to stand up, thereby missing the most exciting parts of the game.

Now, even if the guy behind you is able, what about the guy behind him and so on.

On the other hand, there are times when you just can’t help it. I know I do. Just not every attack. But then I’m also getting old (57) and have a dodgy knee.

  10. Was it just a coincidence that Griff picked the 13th minute to slam the ball home?

Is the wee man that good that he chose his timing?

Wasn’t there when Charlie Tully stuck 2 corners into the net or when Babe Ruth pointed to the bleachers but i was there yesterday and there was something uncanny about the speed of it all……almost as if it was meant to be.

    Legend.

The first time I played Carnoustie GC was a couple of weeks or so before Paul Lawrie won his Open there.

First hole, decent drive, then a 5 wood to the front of the green.

The SEVEN putts that followed destroyed my confidence and the obvious quality of my play, err, fell away.

I’ve been back since but…………………………………nae much improvement.

Brendan Rodgers is a miracle worker. He has only been working with the players since late June and within 2 months has secured the Life line to the future in Champions League qualification.

He has done this spending 5.5m and taking in £4m. A net spend of £1.5m when all add ons come into play and the addition of the Wanyama bonus from his transfer.

We have stripped out a large swathe of players surplus to requirements and must have kept the wage bill more or less the same even with our imports expected to be on high salaries.

I noticed Barcabhoy lament a supposed clamour to spend £15m on a player. Personally I haven’t heard that. There is a clamour for genuine quality to be added to the squad. You can see already that Sinclair is genuine quality. He has scored and made important goals and released the burden on other players. Sinclair was under utilised at previous clubs and played out of his most potent position. He is a moneyball signing. Toure at the end of his career was another essential piece in the jigsaw that didn’t cost a fortune. Dembele with the correct coaching can become a star. 19 years old and scoring important goals. Despite what Tiny Tim was told by Peter Grant, comparisons with Tony Watts output over this season to Dembeles will look very much like the mass predictions of a Sevco miracle come seasons end.

The portents are good. We are working well with our income. The indications are that we will sign at least one player. It looks unlikely to be McCarthy but I was surprised at that since Brendan Rodgers has identified another player in the same position. We can cope with one or two loans on the premise that we fill those positions with our own players in future.

With a base of a £51 million pound turnover last year and adding in the additional season tickets sold, upward turn in sponsorship shirt sales and additional cost of single match day tickets we should already have been looking at a healthy turnover. Now with the addition of over 30 million we are within touching distance of those clubs down South we apparently can’t compete with for players.

Some posters relentlessly contribute the line that we will never be able to compete in European terms again. The Europa league was our level and just beating Rangers was a feat. Well I hope those supporters feel like this is Christmas morning and they woke up expecting a tangerine and kit Kat but got the latest toy instead.

Celtic should be able to beat clubs like Beer Sheva. Malmo etc. The odds are stacked in our favour. UEFA have again stacked the odds in our favour with the recent changes. All we need to do is plan to beat these sides and we get access to a 30 million + jackpot. Use that money wisely and make iterative improvements and we should place untouchable daylight between us and our domestic bread and butter.

If we make the correct decisions over the coming days and sign genuine quality we should increase our chances of gaining further income from the Champions League and more importantly coefficient points.

The results pulled in over the last 8 weeks just make me even more appalled at the self fulfilling prophecy of the Ronny experiment. There was a Scott Brown volley between us and getting sucked into another domestic wrestling match.

My reason for not checking your moniker is the same for not checking my facts.

You are right, though, I made a false accusation because of that for which I apologise.

However, your generalisation on why some Celtic supporters won’t be attending the upcoming Sevco fixture is inaccurate in my case, and from other responses last night a few others.

That’s why I challenged the false accusation in your post, as you did with mine.

And where better to do that than on the Celtic Supporters’ blog on which it appeared?

As long as the host allows, I will post Celtic-related and other posts when I want.

If they don’t fit in with your views, too bad.

You must have read back to see my response to you, so you’ll notice I’m not exactly a voice in the wilderness on this.

And I notice you don’t challenge my claim that the game is a farce up here.

No wonder. A 4 year old club going for its 55th title, with the support of the game’s administrators and the silence of our club and the others too.

So, I won’t pay to watch Celtic play, without protest, in a farce.

If you can get past it, good for you.

But you surely can’t expect to criticise others in anticipation of what they might post and not be challenged?

    Accurately, of course.

    Hail Hail!

Remember that these turnovers reported are in Euros. At the time the euro to gbp exchange rate will have been in the region of .85. Income will have gone up no doubt since that time. However, you have to look at the profligacy of the EPL clubs in their turnover to transfer fee spend.

I would love to see a European league of clubs net transfer fee divided by turnover.

  20. One signing I dont think so,Celtic Supporters have done there part ,thousands renewing ,others coming back,so it up to this board, which I often refer to as that mob,to get the cash out,no more excuses, and get in 4 quality players,a right back ,another striker,a centre half, another midfielder ,and put at least 4 or 5 players who at present are at the club, put them up for transfer,

GFTB, no bother pal. I couldnt give a rats arse what decision others make re the hun game, I just dont expect to be questioned on my stance. Ref my post from last night.

I assume you will be going so fair play to you. You wont be seeing any post from me telling you what to do. Likewise, I wont be told Im wrong in my decision to leave my seat empty on the day.

Not sure I,ll enjoy the golf on the day but it’s always a pleasure to set foot / feet on the big chap’s holy sclaffbaw court.

“Shut up Chris Sutton: Scottish referees go to war with BT Sport over personal criticism of whistlers

    Written by Danny Stewart, 28/08/2016

BT have been told to muzzle outspoken pundit Chris Sutton following showdown talks with the Scottish Football Association.

Representatives of the television broadcasters met with SFA Head of Refereeing John Fleming on Friday at their request.

They voiced their concern at the sudden withdrawal of co-operation by Craig Thomson in the St Johnstone v Celtic Premiership game eight days ago.

It is the custom and practice of Scottish officials to co-ordinate kick-off times with BT’s outside broadcast director to work in with television scheduling and advertising.

On this occasion, though, Thomson, declined to do so.

That was because he was furious at being labelled a “bottler” by Sutton in the course of BT’s coverage of Dundee v Rangers a week earlier for failing to send off Rangers midfielder Harry Forrester for a second bookable offence.

It is understood the personal nature of the criticism left Thomson disappointed, and that he then contacted the SFA to ask if the co-operation was mandatory for officials.

Having been told it was not, Thomson went ahead with his protest, and the match kicked off a minute early.

It looks set to be the catalyst for change, with the SFA having signalled to BT in Friday’s meeting they would be prepared to formalise the current voluntary arrangement – provided they give assurances commentators will keep criticisms to football issues.

BT is now having in-house discussions about the situation, and it is anticipated an agreement will be struck in due course.

The SPFL are in the middle of a four-year deal with both BT Sport and Sky, believed to be worth around £15m per season.

Sutton – the former Celtic, Chelsea and England striker – has hit the headlines on several occasions already this season because of his forthright opinions.

The latest example came on Friday night when he said he felt Rangers would not win the upcoming Old Firm match on September 10 because their centre backs were not good enough.

    Or, in his words: “horrendous”.”

  23. Thought Eric was outstanding yesterday, my own MOTM. He didn’t lose a ball in the air (which is more than can be said for big Kolo) and appeared to be faster over the ground than I remember from last season. Welcome back the Viking!

Had a wee spat with the guy in front of me yesterday. He was continually moaning about our slow build up from the back, shouting on them to get the all up the park. I tried pointing out that we were retaining possession and moving them all over the park and then pointed out very pointedly that that was how our two first half goals came about, but he wasn’t having any of it, he wanted the ball up the park. Come the second half and Dorus repeatedly (under instruction I presume) punted the ball up the park where we often lost possession. When I pointed this out, again, to my learned friend he eventually got up, said “feck this” and headed off, with his two mates pi**ing themselves laughing in their seats. Well, I mean, I thought he would be pleased.

Brendan still has some distance to go in his education of the fans.

Actually though DeVries was forced to kick long , as Aberdeen played a lot higher up the park second half. In honesty we struggled to deal with that.

    Hit post button too quick……..

You are right about the lack of nous in our support though. Brendan is aware of how our support can influence positively/negatively and usually references “it” in post match interviews.

When the Dons scored yesterday it was like a switch going from cheers to jeers (too strong a word but you get the drift).

  28. EMERALDBEE\O/ STILL PROUD TO BE AN INTERNET BAMPOT on 28TH AUGUST 2016 10:59 AM

I’m all for keeping possession and being patient but I felt that the spell of possession before their goal was labourered and slowed the tempo of the game down. That suited Aberdeen and was a contributing factor to their goal imo. At least 6 times Erik received the ball with lots of space in front of him but chose to pass backwards. I thought he should have moved into the space which would have forced them to engage with him and opened up more space.

  29. BIG-CUP-WINNERS on 28TH AUGUST 2016 11:05 AM

There were still options for DDV to pass out but I think he lost confidence in those in front of him. There comes a time when you need to just kick it long a few times. It seemed to take an age to accept that until Brendan told them to do after about 70 minutes.
