CQN Golf Open 2016

The 12th annual CQN Open Golf Day will take place at Aberdour Golf Club in Fife on Friday 29 July. Our annual trip to Aberdour is always a fantastic day. Those who play golf (not me) enjoy the stunning Fife course, while we all participate in an evening’s entertainment and chat.

The day is always fully subscribed, so if you want to attend, please email Taggsybhoy at cqnopen2016@gmx.co.uk . Cost for the full day’s golf and evening meal is £80. There are a limited number of dinner and evening-only places available at a cost of £45.

We’ve raised tens of thousands of pounds for good causes far and wide over the previous 11 events, and enjoyed some great times. See you there.

Aberdeen’s visit to Fir Park on Saturday looked like a stiff test on paper before news broke that the Motherwell squad has been devastated by a virus, which has forced the club to cancel training this week. There’s little Celtic can do about that short of extending their lead to four points earlier tomorrow afternoon with their visit to Rugby Park.

Kilmarnock are marooned in the play-off position: 8 points from bottom, and five from Inverness and Hamilton above them. They’ve scored only once in their last four home games but have the curious claim to be unbeaten by Celtic this season.

We looked sloppy on our first trip to Rugby Park in the autumn and impotent when we faced them at Celtic Park. Kilmarnock would perhaps suggest they simply figured out how to frustrate us. They’re not alone with that belief.

I was concerned about last week’s game against Thistle and Kilmarnock tomorrow. Our next outing, in two weeks against Hearts, will take care of itself, the adrenaline will pump for that one, but we need to create our own intensity away to teams in the bottom half of the table.

We didn’t turn in a classic performance last week but, straight from the off, it was clear we were sharper than at any point since thumping Hamilton two months ago. A focus returned to the squad (as did a Commons and a Bitton). With the large uptake of tickets by Celtic fans I expect our edge to be evident from the start.

If you are at the skylon next Friday at 930 am I could come and meet you and bring you up the road to see celtic academy boys playing St kevins in the opening game at 10 am. Celtic play Barcelona at 4pm and I plan to collect Cowie and his amigos at the airport about 315 and bring them to the game

I think it was John Reid who said that we as in……Celtic ‘ were going nowhere ‘ meaning of course literally that we would remain in the SPL. He went on to say more famously ‘ we will not be treated differently etc ‘ iin his best Celtic oratory.

I’ve maintained that Celtic’s stance ( on cheating ) must be heard regardless, and I reckon that time is coming closer, what with the dawn of ‘The Rangers’, Res 12, and continual falling gates, – Celtic will require to become a club, and not a mere business.

Not enough at Celtic Park, too many whose support of Celtic begins and ends with posts on CQN, when their is a generation waiting to be taught how to support Celtic in future, and to learn how our club has prevailed.

The same club myth will require to be challenged, long before deadline day.

  7. THOMTHETIM@6:26 – I wasn’t thinking in particular of you – just knew I had read it on a couple of occasions – If I have misrepresented your overall point, forgive me.

I don’t think at this juncture it is a reasonable possibility that we could ‘jump ship’ and go elsewhere.

I don’t believe Celtic or any other current Premiership club are ‘in cahoots’ with the SFA – in fact over the past few years, Celtic and other clubs have stymied projected SFA and SPFL plans, proper to the Ibrox occupants.

MAHETHEMADMAN@6:23 – If you don’t mind me saying, the MLS alternative is rather fanciful.

Resignations and the departure of the likes of Regan and Doncaster might be desireable – however sometimes ‘better the devil you know’ – and after so much ‘water under the bridge’, I don”t think either gentleman could ever again take us by surprise.

Finally, summing up, Peter Lawwell is ‘on the inside’ at the afrementioned bodies and will know the situation inside out.

I completely reject some of the wild suggestions that PL would do, or, be involved in anything that could be detrimental to Celtic – I find that ludicrous in the extreme and only able to be trolled by the inveterate board-haters among us.

    BSR,

Yes, it getting near to the time when all the cards get laid on the table and we know where we stand.

As I alluded to the other day, there will be time enough for counting, when the dealing’s done.

Meaning after the court cases are over.

    Mr. P.

I don’t believe that Celtic were in cahoots, but like staying in an abusive marriage, they will be assumed to be condoning the situation, when, in reality, it is an inescapable trap.

    WITS

    Looking forward to meeting you.

You will recognise me by my rolled up copy of the Morning Star and a poppy in my button hole.

  12. I hear you, Mr Pastry.

Much of what you say may well be true. We just can’t be sure at this time.

Nonetheless, we now have a situation in which the Board’s seemingly off-hand treatment of the (hugely respected, at least among the (ever growing) bampot community) Res 12-ers presents paradox and (for a great many of us) brings into sharp relief the whole question of ‘why is it we follow Celtic?’

As the plc likes to point out, we’re ‘a club like no other’. An expression of marvellous vagueness.

One thing for sure is that the Celtic ‘Community’ has flourished through a unique confluence of historical events and shared cultural experience.

We have a unique and (most of us would aver) special heritage and identity which the Board seems to be taking for granted.

If it (the present Board) proceeds down the business route, whereby we (the fans and minor shareholders) cease being genuine partners on this adventure, and are instead viewed as mere customers or ‘investors’, the game will be a bogey for thousands of active followers of the Club.

    Mr pastry,

Re the MLS, I honestly don’t think it’s fanciful. In fact I believe the opposite,, I think they would jump at us.

I have stated the pros and cons before and have no wish to repeat them.

But out with the epl, which I don’t see as possible, I think it’s the best option.

    Just my humble opinion.

  15. To be honest Mr Pastry, I view you as someone whose purpose on here is to be Pro-board, possibly even as part of your job. In light of that, and of your very subjective language in your reply, I don’t put much store by what you say.

I would like for Celtic plc to behave in a responsible manner in the best interests of shareholders and I will take heed of the words of the shareholders involved in Res 12 as opposed to the words of someone who has admitted to less than perfect knowledge of this “stushie”.

  16. Just watched Ronny’s press conference on CelticTV there and I’m left with the strong impression that something internally has happened this week in a positive manner. He seemed much more up for the fight, dismissive of the SMSM agenda and so it’s on to 5 in a row.

It still remains possible that we are at a crucial ‘stick or twist’ point in the evolution of the current team. When I think what next season might bring – more appearances by Tierney, Henderson, Allen, Roberts, McGregor and, of course, Ajer – I remain concerned that we’ve not yet given Ronny quite enough time. The way I feel right now, on this eve of a very important game and with only the one glass of wine downed is – in Ronny I Trust!

How do we define what is the best interests of such a large number of holders of shares in what is a relatively modest plc?

You say “seemingly offhand treatment”, the operative word being “seemingly”. Those who run Celtic are merely caretakers of our great club and would be foolish in the extreme to think that they could run the club to their own personal agenda – Peter Lawwell and other members of the board are not foolish.

Yes I agree with that we have an unique heritage – however like all other clubs, we must run the business efficiently – football is a business now, whether we like it or not – we can’t follow a ‘stop the world we want to get off’ strategy.

Some of our number seen jealous of the mayhem that has ensued down Ibrox and want a piece of that kind of action – I don’t and I don”t believe 99% of Celtic supporters do either.

  20. Mr Pastry on 18th March 2016 7:32 pm

I have no doubt the Board is made up of intelligent and able folk, all of whom are doing what they think is in the best interests of the club.

However, I think their position on this I plain wrong: as guardians of this club it is they, not the Res 12ers or the SFA need to explain what’s going on.

They need to understand that not to do so will severely damage it (the club).

There seems no other avenue open to it … not in the time available…

  26. I don’t think there will be many who walk away should Celtic do/say nothing regarding the SFA and the licensing issue. I believe that the board reckon this to be the case hence their inaction.

  27. Mr Pastry

You say our board run our club as a business.

Well if that means not following the rules and maintaining a credible sport then I don’t want anything to do with our club.

  28. Giving up on the horses, mind you I never ever really got started. My “tip” for the Gold Cup ran 7th of 9 …there goes my pocket money for the week, and next week. Just as well I’m off the booze for Lent.

I suppose my twice a year dabble on the nags will never sink me nor will it make Paddy Power a wealthier man but install hate getting duff information.

Ah well , onto tomorrow. Looking for a very good performance and a convincing win, surely we are due to pump that mob?

  29. Mr Pastry…

Although I agree with some you say this I can’t…”however like all other clubs, we must run the business efficiently – football is a business now.”

If our club was being run efficiently, the stands wouldn’t be half full.

The squandering of money on sub-standard strikers is embarrassing and has practically out weighed the money made from the buy and sell at a profit doctrine in usage.

This is the major reason supporters that have paid up front for season books can’t be a***d going.
