Rangers destroyed by SFA

503

Huge result from the SFA Judicial Panel Tribunal tonight, absolutely enormous, perhaps the biggest decision ever made in Scottish football history.  Rangers have been banned from signing players over 18-years-old, for a period of 12 months and fined £160k.

For months Scottish football has lived under some huge moral questions; would the combined forces of TV contracts, the Bank of Scotland and the formidable Rangers lobby combine to subvert the meritocratic spirit of sport and see rules written to see Rangers kept afloat.

The SFA Judicial Panel Tribunal made these questions moot.  In the event that Rangers fail to agree a CVA with creditors and emerge as a Newco, and IF that Newco is allowed to inherit the SPL share given up by Rangers, the Newco will be unable to sign any players of 18 years or older.

Although the SPL and SFA are able to transfer Rangers league share to a Newco, player employment contracts are with the current company, so players would not be contracted to any new company.  An SPL Newco would need to compete with 16 and 17-year-olds.

Conversely, there is nothing to stop a new football club, Rangers United, for example, sharing Firhill and applying to the Scottish Football League, from signing players of any age.  A new football club like this would inherit no financial or football punishment from Rangers FC.  Anyone aspiring to fill the gap left by Rangers would do well to navigate their plans in this direction.

In fact, scrub that first sentence, this is the biggest decision ever made in Scottish football history, no perhaps about it.

  1. Just one point, the SFA have not hammered the huns! An INDEPENDENT commision have hammmered the huns. The SFA are washing their hands of the sentences.

    NAW!

As has been said before,if the trophy is tainted,we will polish it.

Of course, there may not be any metal polish left in Glasgow,D&P must surely have used it all on their collective brass neck.

If their fans appear to lean our way then we may get some new supporters if Cowdenbeath do become some sort of Frankenstein Rangers.

I’m just a couple of miles from Cowdenbeath, trust me, none of their fans will have leanings towards us, Cowdenbeath is the Larkhall of Fife.

Oh, what a wonderful day this is, jelly and ice cream all round

if they do go down the buying another club route then we can refer to them as Cowdenbeath (for example) for ever more.

on the subject ot tainted titles, does anyone have an inkling as to when the EBT “investigation” is due?

  7. If Roccobhoys around, I believe he was on yesterday asking about watching the Bhoys in Budapest. I was there at the weekend and we went to the Caledonian as they had the game with M’well advertised. However we missed the first 25 minutes as the Man U, Everton game was on (we were not happy). This pub only has one sky box so can only show one game but another pub you might have some luck with is Jack Doyle’s as he can show different games.

Why don’t Duff and Phelps insist that all those present, and ex, employees of Rangers FC start paying back their EBT subsidesed loans?

    ……..

Because their contracts said they don’t have to pay the money back. Hence the reason they are in the doodoo!!!

  10. The Honest Mistake loves being first on

Do I understand the message of the rainjurs correctly?

In the past year Craig Why/ite has cheated for the past 20 years and then ran away.

They might not do walking away but they do do flushing away!

  11. How many players might the huns be left with for next season? Next season?? OK. The first question has to be whether they will actually manage to finish this season.

There is probably just about enough cash to limp along to the end of the season. But the way the bidders are going there is no resolution to the ownership issue likely any time soon. Craig Whyte has made it clear he is not going to go easily or quickly. Ticketus still need to be given a deal they can live with. There will be no season ticket money coming in. And the players’ wages will be going back up once more.

And we still need to hear from the gorilla, which is sitting quietly in the corner smiling.

I can’t see an announcement on the big tax case this week. The public order implications of another hammering for the huns before Sunday are immense. But next week? Who knows exactly when but it must be coming soon.

At some stage over the next two weeks the hard question has to be asked. Is it possible for everything to be resolved and a CVA put in place or is liquidation inevitable? And if D&Pdon’t ask it then HMRC will force the issue.

And I think we all know what the answer will be.

  12. Kittoch

Yes. But whilst you were invetigating in true CQN style, I adopted the Lazy Journalism approach and just asked on here!

    Divitbhoy.

Interesting. As I said earlier, their fans were like ours and Arbroath`s were more like Them. ” Nobody likes us and we don`t care” kind of stuff whilst the Blue Brazil were doing the Huddle.

    Off out now,

    JJ

  13. If they want to try the tenuous argument of Rangers United actually being Rangers 1872 they need the original SFA membership and the SPL share.

    The punishment goes with that.

If a NewCo is started every single squad member is entitled to walk away for nothing. So these guys have the choice of walking away and getting a massive signing fee and decent wages elsewhere OR staying with a financially crippled Rangers on a fraction of what they are on just now, and not competing at the level they are at just now. They are struggling to put a bench out just now, never mind when players exercise their rights to leave.

If a brand new Rangers United is started, with no history at all, all sporting sanctions are left behind with the debts. However a sizeable proportion of their sizeably proportioned fans have already indicated that they will not support a NewCo.

    What do you do?

It is like being asked if you want to be shot or stabbed…….
