The biggest story in the Deloitte money league table, out this morning, is that of Milan and Inter, 14th and 19th place respectively. Inter are stuck between Everton (pining for a new stadium to remove the biggest inhibitor on revenue) and West Ham (soon moving to a new stadium).
Juventus are 10th and Roma 16th but that’s it for Italian clubs, who were able to attract the top talent from Law to Ronaldo and all generations in between. The fabled ‘lure of the lira’ wasn’t replaced by the lure of Italian stocked euros. Football in Italy is still a huge business, but the TV market is not as generous as the deal in the confederated league in England and Wales.
It’s not so long since Celtic regularly featured in Deloitte’s report but our TV revenues have stagnated while those elsewhere have grown considerably. We’ve recognised our place in the food chain, but next to slip off the list when the new English TV deal kicks in will be the big Milanese clubs. Good.
Celtic were first to suffer the consequences of the TV and football markets cartels. There’s little we can do about it alone, we need big clubs in big countries to also be unhappy at being pushed out of the tent.
We’ll soon read that Crystal Palace earn more money than Inter Milan. Experience suggests that football clubs, once disenfranchised in this manner, become advocates for change. Even those near the top, like Karl-Heinz Rummenigge’s Bayern Munich, are talking about a European league, as their domestic TV deal is holding them back.
Magners Ticket Competition
Fancy two Premium Seats in the Jock Stein Stand for Saturday’s game against St Johnstone, courtesy of Magners? You can win by answering this question, which will hopefully bring back some memories:
We said “Cheerio to 10-in-a-row” on 9 Mary 1998, but just before halftime that day, a St Johnstone player went within inches of equalising with a header. Who was that player?
Send his surname in the subject line of an email to celticquicknews@gmail.com to enter.
And while you are at it, why don’t you put a £1 into our Mary’s Meals school kitchen appeal here…

Jobo Baldie & the Comfortable Collective…
Re the Hamilton team announcement the other night.
The error didn’t dawn on me when the team was being announced however when the Hamilton team names were displayed on the large screen it had Steven Lawless as number 8. A Partick Thistle player of course.
No sign of “Kingsley”!
The other names did appear to be correct and I am sure the announcer
did correct the Lawless mistake just before kick-off.
Read on Twitter that EK aren’t entirely happy with the decision to play the game in Hamilton. I can understand that.
JNP’s idea is a good one but half of a 20,000 gate at Parkhead or Hampden would be more financially worthwhile to EK than all of the gate money from a full Hamilton.
Dubhaibhoy,
Do they have Aldi over there ?
So what was in the bag then ?
Methinks tbe lady doth…. :-)

Jamesgang will be back. He is a highlight of CQN social gatherings for me.
Would like the EK game at Doomdome. ;)

No Confederate league that I’m aware, not unless the the Rebs have started one in US deep South. And no non English route either. Wrexham, formerly of the Football League are now in the National League, itself formerly the FL Conference. Theoretical route to EPL it has to be said. Crystal Palace also looking to redevelop Selhurst Park in situ, though I might have tempted to try and move to the Athletics Stadium, before Boris sells it off to City pals. Great setting too.
NFL? Just okayed a move by the St Louis Rams back to LA, owner same one as Arsenal FC. Rugby Union has shown itself more flexible than football, only today Toulon (not Tulane) announced a plan to join the English Premiership, apparently it can be done. One to watch.
Blantyretim: If you are lurking, I will have your calendar on Saturday. Let me know where I can meet through one of the ghuys who know me.
Delaney’s Dunkey: 12.30 Sat? You name the venue.
Sad to see long standing posters leave the bhlog. They are usually the positive ones with interesting stories to tell.
If you have a strong opinion, express it. But getting personal and being abusive is a huge turn off. We’re nearly all Tims here but we have different outlooks and life experiences so these colour our view of the world. Let’s just agree to disagree on divisive matters and move on.
Hopefully, MIT, SOT, BT & Corkcelt will return as will many others who used to post.

a couple that we should have taken straight away,Mc avennie,Mc Garvey.
*Unfortunately the buddies were one of a couple of clubs that refused to sell players to us. Another were Dundee hence Stevie Murray eventually coming from the sheep and our missing out on WGS, two players that the Big Mhan coveted.
Almore, Good Evening
I believe he already has. I am going to try and get along as I owe you a double, but may be restricted to either before or after the game and not both
What time you heading home on Sat?

Crystal Palace would suit me. Place I met you and BMCUW.
See you 12.30 Saturday pal. :)
Sorry if I put across that I would have Celtic sign O”Halloran. No way was I saying that.I was just putting across that we should not snub players just because they can score goals in the Scottish game.As I mentioned earlier,we have signed some crackers who have done the same thing.
In saying that,I would not like to be facing this boy playing for Sevco,as in the last game in Perth,he ,if he had his shooting boots on,could have scored a hat trick against us.We all witnessed it.He is a very dangerous, pacy, player.
All I am saying.

We will take back MIT, SOT AND BT but not that cork fella, that’s pushing it. ..
Only good thing that came out of cork. …you’ve guessed it, the road to Dublin, we’ll take the blacks and the Chinese but not the irish.
Anyway if that doesn’t get corkie back on nothing will
Delaney’s , Jamesgang’s sense of humour is very good and his posts put a smile on my miserable coupon.
Play our next away Scottish Cup game in G51? That might not appeal to most except the EKFC manager.

Kilmarnock were another. Celtic offered a big fee to sign Duffield from Kilmarnock. They refused to sell him to us and later accepted less money from the beautiful people.

Yer aff yer West Brit heid! ;))) Hahaha
Re draft system, definitely a no go as in the States the NFL draft fae the colleges, Scotland disnae have that luxury.
IMHO it’s a move tae subjugate Lennoxtown and the grip we have on the potentially best youth players.

Why I have even instructed my Butler to leave out some scraps from the larder for the local urchins. .
Apparently it’s all tax deductible ( once the urchins give a receipt for all alms accepted)

Was jesting about doomdome. The last ever time I will enter that place happened when Wim won his first Celtic Trophy. I will never darken the glorified Victorian lavvy’s door again.
Garygillespie, i’m glad we never got he of Smith must score infamy. We got a far better player in Davie Provan , than the former CEO of the SFA.
The Killie team Provan and Duffield played for were one of the best attacking teams , Willie Fernie was their boss, I have seen in Scotland. Unfortunately, they couldn’t defend as Willie wanted all out attack from Killie.
Tontine tim
Aye. His fake hair is even worse than stokes or Leigh’s efforts.
Seeing Broonie in recent photos has had me wondering if he has been out of the team because he has been under the knife of a hair weaver.
WITS: I expect Corkie to post in the next few minutes putting us Jackeens in our place:-)
CRC: Crystal palace @ 12.30 or if after match where I met you last time. Not going into Kerrydale after match, too much bother getting back to the airport. Btw, I might have a spare calendar if you are interested.
How could I have forgotten ACGR? Get yer Arse back on here pronto!
Dallas Dallas,
I agree with your assessment of both players. Smith also a horrible individual.
I remember that team giving us a hard time at Celtic Park one day and had the misfortune to attend the scottish cup tie at rugby park in 1978.
DD@8:42,
What the reference about jamesgang has he left the blog?
All the talk about the manager,it looks as though this is now his picks. If he gets who he wants, and they play the style he wants,I will support him.I have been a bit unsure lately, because of no inclusion of Scott Allan,a sore point for me,but he is our manager for now,so get behind him.lets see where we go.
Another point.Unless Celtic TV are turning down the background crowd noise,I dont know, then the atmosphere, generated by an eight one win was totally shocking.I hope some people at the game can tell me different.Sounded dreadful.
Delaney’s , i think that was the last time I was there also. I’m still traumatised from the 5 1 game there in 1988. That was the last time I went to a game v Rangers (IL) at Ibrox.
I thought EKFC had chosen New Douglas Park but the SFA decided it should be played there.
Unlike them to do things against a club’s, ,apart from two clubs if you know what I mean, wishes.
I think EKFC might include Rugby Park as a possible venue. You can get to Kilmarnock in less than half an hour by car from East Kilbride.

Thought Scott put in a good shift the other night with several really clever passes. Still tends to get caught on the ball a wee bit. Obviously got more time against the diddy teams like sevco in the lower tier. :)
On a more serious note, I had heard that he has had a few injury problems and health problems that have slowed his progress. Can see him filling the kris commons role in the future.
Hello again all you young rebels.
Just wakened there from the sleep of the damned, time to dry
out now, or maybe not, its nearly the weekend again, ah well.
Haven’t read back yet does anyone know why the team wear long
sleeve t shirts under short sleeve hoops tops ?
Our Celtic club received a lovely thank you letter from Frankston
sick kids hospital after our Christmas presentation as well as
others from parents of kids who received them, so thanks to all
those who contributed to this heartfelt gesture from our club.
Anybody who would like to see some of our event pics and the

I was there and I wish I could tell you different but the reality is that the atmosphere at Celtic Park is not very good. The support was happy enough on Tuesday but not loudly so. I think we take it for granted we will eventually win and it is difficult to get exited when that is the dominant feeling. Personally, I enjoy the football but the passion of the crowd is only there fleetingly. Aberdeen would need to be really breathing down our necks ( or us, theirs) before real passion will return.

James is taking a rest from the blog. :))
Anyone answer a question. How can EKFC be told/ordered to play at a particular ground. What if Hamilton want to charge an exorbitant fee to hire their stadium or could EK just say that and allow themselves to go elsewhere. Whatever way it is another balls up by our administrators who apparently have not responded to a letter from EK or been in dialogue with either of the teams to discuss potential venues etc despite draw being made 10 days before game. Hopeless shower the SFA but we know that anyway.
Congratulations to East Kilbride and hard lines to Lothian Thistle Hutchison Vale.
The East Kilbride team will now join the ranks of some of the fabled names from the distant past of Scottish football who have been drawn against Celtic, the record holders, in the Scottish Cup.

GaryGillsepie, Kilmarnock made it hard for us at a game at Celtic Park , when Willie Fernie was in charge. We beat them 2 1 after they had outplayed us in the first half. Iain McCulloch , who was their best player, scored a really well worked goal to put them one nil up. Some of our support applauded it as it was worked from the Kilmarnock box without any of our players touching the ball. Their inabilty to defend lost them that match
Derek McDicken scored the winner in that cup replay game in 1978 and from what I gather, our performance in that game summed a truly awful season for us.
Steve Clarke’s brother , Paul, played in that game at centre half.

I had a ticket for the 5-1 disaster. I gave it to my cousin who was over from Canada on holiday. Listened to it in the old Saint Ants club. Got chased after it by the triumphalists.
