Topping agitates for a fans’ revolt

593

“The best hope for the Scottish game? It’s in the activity the fans bring to bear on big organisations.”

“Fans don’t realise yet how much change they can bring about”.

Not the words of a blogger-agitator, the words of out-going SCFL chairman, Ralph Topping, trying to incite fans to revolt against TV companies.  In the same valedictory interview to The Scotsman, Topping acknowledged the mobilisation of fans against governance standards at the SPFL, but turned his face to the fans.

The man has been in office for 8 years but has been a virtual recluse as far as the paying public are concerned.  Now we know why, he has no filter or self-awareness.

Not good enough, Mr Topping.  You have failed to answer any of the pertinent questions (here) and despite the game being brought into significant disrepute during your tenure, you have now briefed the press that you intend to ignore Celtic’s request that matters are reviewed.

If you want to incite a revolt from football fans, you are on track.  We’ll do what we can, I promise.

Yup I think I spotted that on first quick read. The were illegal regardless of side letter use.

  7. A Protective Cost Order can be granted by the Court of Session where there is a clear public interest present.

An example would be an environmental campaign in the local area against say a new wind farm.

It causes the other side some severe difficulties because even if successful the amount recoverable from the other side is pre-determined and relatively small, say for instance £5000.

I am confident that we could raise that in a day or two on CQN after the Court grants this order.

I think it’s time you answered some questions Paul. Like why haven’t Celtic taken on res 12 and why do fans need to lead a revolt when Celtic, by far Scotland’s leading club can and should show some leadership.

Once again Celtic are hiding behind the supporters (whilst simultaneously calling us criminals).

    Disgusted.

    ==========================

It really is not helpful towards the objective of SFA reform to use any opportunity to mount personal attacks on Paul.

Celtic have taken on Res12, we advised them to wait for both court cases to end so no complaints there.

They will have to deal with it within the constraints of doing business with the SFA and SPFL and if you have no idea of what they and supporters are up against you have been too busy with your personal agenda.

I made a plea the other day to set all that aside, BMCUWP thought it worth reposting so I’ll assume you missed it.

We have a big enough fight for justice on our hands that means mobilising the support because being a member of the SFA Celtic have to work within constraints the supporters and shareholders do not.

Make the SFA the target of your ire and set aside any personal grievances you have, not matter how justifiable they are to you and get with the programme.

PS If any folk have the right to be disgusted since 2014 its the Res12Boys, but we never let that get in the way of the objective.

  9. TWC

So from that can I assume from your last post that Celtic will be doing nothing through legal channels at least and it will be up to the supporters and those who have an interest in seeing justice done?

I’m unsure what it is you expect the football fans to do? What threat do the fans have to offer?

Based on previous discussions and debates on here there are few fans, and I’m coming at this from a Celtic supporters angle, who are willing to refrain from attending any football match a Celtic team play in.

The only path open to fans is non attendance of SFA and SPFL tournaments. I exclude league games from this as the season books are already bought and paid for. Many thousands of fans will also already have signed up to away match and cup competition options.

In my view given the majority view the fans, at least of our club are not willing to act in the only way that would make any difference, ie. empty stadiums for SFA and SPFL cup comps.

Maybe turning our backs during a game? Na that is just laughable. Maybe complaining in writing? Pointless as SFA/SPFL don’t care.

Why did Celtic allow a vote to stand re. appealing the LNS decision while our rep. was on holiday? Seems to me this was possibly a managed decision by our PLC.

A judicial review? In Scotland. Don’t make me laugh!

The clubs need to act with the fans backing and support. But the action requires our club/s to lead, not be lead!

The precedence has already been set by Sevco both in taking legal action against the SFA and requesting their own fans to boycott games.

  14. OK now that danders are up I suggest readers take the time to read the Timeline at

    http://www.celticquicknews.co.uk/official-update-to-res12-july-2017/

but focus only on the following paras/dates

    15. 19 September 2011.

Why was it good news for Rangers as seen by the SFA?

What exactly were UEFA told that convinced them to accept a fraudulent submission, the overdue payables were anything but postponed and the SFA by Sept 2011were well aware of that.

Why was it good news that UEFA did not seek future financial forecasts just 5 months before Rangers went belly up? Was that good news for the SFA as well who must have had some inkling by Sept 2011 of Rangers precarious financial condition.

    Then read

    16. 30th Sept 2011: and ask yourself does the tone of that letter and advice given sound to you like a national association doing the job it was supposed to?

Did Craig Whyte lie in his submission under that guidance?

Most will have read the Regan E mail of 7th December where more covering up is discussed with RFC. Lots of questions to be answered there to but not a lot of attention has been paid to the 19th Sept exchanges.

This isn’t over by a long chalk.

    =================

The answer is they can but need their supporters to be as angry as we are, but their loss is not as great as ours financially or trophies.

If we (as in every club) don’t act we get the governance we deserve.

  16. I remember telling my old boy that we should have been signing John McGinn when he went to Hibs. I said the same about Stokes.

Stokes was a useful signing for Celtic but we got to the point where he had outlived his usefulness. We signed Leigh who was a better version of Stokesy.

I feel we have already got past that point with McGinn. He’d probably have been more useful than Biton last season but we now have Benyu and Ntcham. When’s he actually gonna play?

  17. Going by what WC is asking the SPFL will be saying nothing.

With respect, the club are cash rich so why not ask them for the 5K ?

Or better still why are the club not prepared to tear the sfa and the spfl down,, neither are fit for purpose, they haven’t been for decades, Dr John told them they were not fit for purpose and from where I am sitting they haven’t got their act together in the meantime, in fact they have gotten far worse.

The club should act on this, not the supporters.

Like the failed newspaper stunt, this will get nowhere, don’t waste your money fellow Tims.

  18. Three days in Court of Session will cost £200k.

We could be there for 2 weeks maybe.

Option I am suggesting, and it is highly informed as the advice is from a senior legal partner at biggest firm in the country, means we get all necessary legal resource for a pre-determined token sum.

On the ‘big news’, I said that the clubs have been talking and told Topping we knew.

Paul has all the details and wanted to hold over from end of last week. He hasn’t used it today but pretty sure that Paul Dykes will be featuring this tonight on the new CQN podcast.

All the Hector’s Gotcha t-shirts ordered have now been posted out and are still available at cqnbookstore.com

  19. One thought that occurs to me re the legal advice the SFA and SPFL have been getting recently, does it take into account the findings of LNS or has it ignored them and taken into account events since before LNS was commissioned as revealed in courts?

If those events have not changed the LNS Decision why can the reasons for judging so as in the LNS Commission, not be provided in a report?

Are they saying they have had a private investigation and LNS stands?

  20. IniquitousIV on

Griffiths charged with provoking Linfield fans. No matter how we sympathize with him, his actions damage Celtic.

The club should act on this, not the supporters.

    ===============================

My understanding is they are acting in a way that is understandable given the situation they face.

    Give it more time.

  22. thetimreaper on

UEFA charge Linfield for throwing objects. Leigh Griffiths charged with provoking fans. Celtic charged with improper conduct for 5 bookings or more.

  23. The Green Man says SACK THE Board on

We should bar their fans from the second leg, that way they wont be able to throw anything at our players.

  24. IniquitousIV on

I hope Brendan advises all his players not to react to provocation on Wednesday, because we don’t need another 5 bookings. Leigh will obviously be a target.

  25. Auldheid

I am happy what the club have said so far, so why the need to ask for 5K ?

It seems to me that insider knowledge knows that the club will be doing no more, or why the need to ask for money, it really isny rocket science.

    Or I am just thick.

Either way this should be for the clubs to sort, just like they did with Res 12….Oh wait

    HH

  26. Lot of chat about what Celtic can, will or will not do about the club, players, fans and shareholders being cheated.

At the risk of repeating myself.

The threat of doing a Belfast Celtic would bring the whole stinking mess tumbling down.

Problem is that doing a Belfast Celtic would require haw maws of a size Celtic PLC does not possess.

  27. Taurangabhoy on

IMATIM May your brother Alan rest in peace. Take care of yourself and your family mate. Remember the good times.

  28. After watching the 1st half vs Lyon again, its immediately apparent what a potentially massive talent we have in our midst in the form of Kundai Benyu.

He has all the attributes Brendan is looking for in his attacking philosophy. Not only that, but he transitions into a defensive mainstay off the ball too. He put in more than one crunching tackle.

Soon we could be saying “Paddy Roberts who?” :-)
