10-in-a-row, McGarvey, Murray and more

1472

The 10-in-a-Row CQN Charity Golf Day at Aberdour was a great success yesterday.  The irrepressible Frank McGarvey spoke about his formative years in Easterhouse and beyond, with special mentions of his legendary first and last games for Celtic.

Len Murray returned six years after his previous appearance, and spoke with humour and authority, but most of all with a burning support for Celtic.

The event raised money for The Cookie Jar Foundation, founded in memory of 19-year-old Christopher Coutts, who died of Hodkin’s Lymphoma last year and for the work of Glasgow the Caring City.

Christopher Coutts’ father, David, demonstrated a vein finder.  A vein finder is the size of a torch and has a light which shines on the arm and allows veins to be seen.

When Christopher was seriously ill medics often had trouble finding a vein for an injection, attempts were traumatic and distressing.  Twice he left hospital without treatment because veins couldn’t be found.  On a visit to a private hospital a doctor produced this torch-like device and identified a hydrated vein with ease, allowing treatment to take place.

The money we raise is going to buy these devices for NHS hospitals, where they are not provided for.  They will not save or cure anyone, but they will make the treatment of acutely ill people less distressing and, on some occasions, possible.

You can help by bidding for this magnificent canvass, signed by Billy McNeill, one of only two made.  You can also help by buying a raffle ticket for the other one.  The ebay auction is available here.  You enter the raffle by donating at least £1 here.  Get involved, you’ll be pleased you did.

On the long drive home from Fife I heard Neymar had left the field writhing in agony after going down clutching his back, just as he did, while feigning, at Celtic Park last season.  Forgive me for being cynical.  Around 1am news came through of his broken vertebra, acquired from a dangerous foul.  Let’s hope he makes a full recovery.

Aye, that’s great advice, but wasted on here methinks!

BTW, is a dress rehearsa something you wear to a funeral?

Enjoy Barcelona and all its beauty.

  2. Good morning friends. East Kilbride is recovering from an overnight deluge and whilst it is still very wet underfoot there’s nothing currently falling from above. What I’m saying is, it’s dry. And mild. But grey and cloudy.

Hot and sunny in majorca with a few fluffy clouds.

Reading back and to answer your question, don’t know my score but reckon it was around 32pts. Delighted with that and more so with the great company on the course and in the club house!

  4. Josimar – great scoring and enjoyed your company. Roll on next year.

  6. The scientist in me quite enjoyed the fact that after the last penalty the other night there was a short time delay before I heard the cheers from all the Dutch fans along the road.

Hence proving that the speed of sound is much slower than the speed of light!

  7. Everyone’s still in bed which has given me a good opportunity to catch up on celtic related matters

Liking what Ive seen of the team set up so far, though 4-3-3 could be a problem, good for creativity from midfield but doesnt appear to allow for a ball winner. The first game appeared to be

    Brown, Johansen, Commons

A great set up but need to get a ball winner in there, Biton probably.

Early days and probably the team was picked to suit who was available but Im liking what Im seeing of the new approach, should be a lot more entertaining then the past few seasons.

PS: Playing rapid vienna in a friendly stinks, Lawwell has to go.

  9. Don’t know if it’ll be a bad or good thing with Broony injured(hope he isny badly hurt btw)

but, WGS wouldn’t have won 3 in a row if, Broony hadn’t been injured/ suspended. imho

Don’t like to see any Celtic player getting injured but, I wouldn’t have SB in the Celtic team

never mind have him as captain. Only saying.

Celtic were playing good when the pressure was off at the tail end of the season and, if the

truth be told, I thought the team were in a better ‘shape’ than they were when,

Joe(the ghost) was playing. Stefan is a massive improvement on Joe(the ghost). imho

A couple of battlers in the shape of, Stefan and a hopefully re-invented Beram will be the

perfect foil for the 3rd middle man ie: Liam or Nir, looking good, and of course, all under

the tutelage of one of the best midfielders that I have seen in the hoops – Johnny Collins.

The only player that I would bring in is GMS although, we should have got Ryan Gauld.

Don’t the Celtic fans deserve to see Messi-esque youngsters ?

Other than that…let the managers manage. imho

The only moan today…how effffin long does it take to build some standing areas ? FMM

    Hail Hail – Off oot.

Morning friends from a cool and awesome Ordesa, where, if jobo was here, he’d confirm that the weather in the mountains is whatever it is when you look.

The spindrift is drifting and spinning its majestic way round, across and under the hills, and we’re hopeful of a sneaky peak of Perdido and the Breche after a few hour’s slog up the canyon.

    Later.

  12. Mrning all. Bright and dark simultaneously down here. (There’s a big black cloud sitting over us.) Much cooler too.

How bright are all things Celtic today? What’s happened to our captain and Biton? Imo, both very important players.

    Bring back Sammi.

  13. Caught up with last nights match, Celtic equipped themselves well, should have won the match IMO

On a formation point, it looked like we played 3 at the back, Commons had a free role

Twardzik and Kayal both had a fine match and were the stand outs, when you enter the last year of your contract motivation is high, Celtics advantage

Lustig, Van the man and Muldinho all played well, ably backed up by Zaluska

Good to see Stokes pick up his form from end of last season, we may still see Stokes fulfill his potential

A very worthwhile preseason exercise especially in a hostile away environment

Unfortunate injury for SB hope its not to serious

Missed the post. Had to put 7 year old to bed. He’s been indulged lately with the World Cup and no school.

Last time we were talking was on the plane on the way back from a mid week game right enough. Easy Jet ensured that I had to revert to boat again as 7am plane wasn’t leaving until after 10am. My Boss said didn’t mind it happening for the Champions league games but had to draw the line for “meaningless” league games lol. How do these people get into the positions they are in with such flawed judgement .

With Steelstown put two and two together about 3 years ago. I was going to contact you but then didn’t know how to or indeed what I would or could say if I did. I can only imagine what you and Dawsy went through. I hope the family are as well as can be expected.

Get my email off Paul67 and get in contact off the blog. I’m up sometime towards the end of this week in your neck of the woods so could catch up then for a beer or whatever. It would be great to see your ugly coupon again.

    Take care Brian.

Knocking on the door so to speak and running tonight at The Curragh at 1840.

Could be out if it’s depth here, but at 16/1 I shall have a go.

    Einstein was 3rd that evening.

He runs again tonight at Rosscommon at 2030, and is priced at 10/1.

I think this a less competitive race and shall have a bet accordingly.
