1254125, transfer selling and sell out books

613

Thank you to everyone who participated in our auction for the Lionel Messi signed shirt, which raised £1020 when it closed this morning, a clear £20 more than the Celtic top signed by the Seville squad, which closed a few days earlier, you are a credit to the club.  Our summer fundraising for the 1254125 campaign and other good causes is off to an excellent start.

We have seven weeks until our first Champions League qualifying game but the qualifying rounds do not end for a full 12 weeks.  These timescales will determine how seriously Celtic take interest in our star players.  Right now, there will be little attention to these matters.

With a couple of new contract offers unsigned after 8 months, I expect Celtic will have a sale valuation in mind, but business is often done in the final days of the transfer window, and until then, efforts will continue to re-sign players.  Celtic are in the fortunate position of not having to accept an offer to keep the lights on, so if valuations are not met, as was the case with Gary Hooper in January, we can afford to let players leave for nothing.

Willie Wallace’s autobiography, Heart of a Lion, sold out initial stock at the mail-order fulfilment centre and several retail stores last week.  The fulfilment centre is now back in stock, all orders should be shipped and with you in a couple of days.

The other thing I’d say about big Vic is should he stay he may not hit the heights again this season that he has in the past and his value would go down.

We kept Boruc after Euro 2008 when could have got a lot of money for him as the best Keeper in the tournament – we didn’t and he went downhill.

I think Big Vic will progress and get even better but occasionally striking while the iron is hot can be important.

Don’t knock the Ramsdens Cup. They’re absolutely right. If they win it, any time we mention the European Cup they’ll be able to throw the Ramsdens Cup right back at us.

Just got round to reading yesterday’s Herald article jointly contributed to by Tom Devine and Peter Kearney and I am in the camp that tends to agree more worth Tom Devines assertions

I would imagine that a fair few contributors on here would sympathise with Mr Kearneys views and harbour those sentiments expressed Mr Devine in that there is a “lingering sense of victimhood”

    ——-

Maybe even worse than that. An Orc now saying that he not only wants Sevco to win it, he wants them to be the first to retain it.

  5. Let’s say the CL nets us £20M.

Let’s also say that we push Arsenal up to £15M for VW + add-ons.

The question is do we need VW to get to the CL?

If we do we’re potentially down by a few million. Which we can afford right now.

However if we don’t need VW to get there we’re no up £35M – any signings we might make, and let’s be honest we’re not likely to make any massive ones.

I can’t see us refusing any deal that’s in the £15M area.

Their lusting after the Ramsden Cup is pityful more than anything.

But Celtic should offer to enter a reserve team in it – to add a bit of glamour!

How funny would it be for Celtic reserves to win it before sevco.

  8. Using summa’s text, I sent the attached email to Vincent Lunny, with a copy to Stuart Regan.

    Mr Lunny,

I find the recent statement made by the CEO of THE Rangers fc extremely sinister and dangerous, how do you view it.

I would be grateful for your opinion by return.

    • Craig Mather assures fans that Rangers will strike back at enemies

RANGERS’ interim chief executive Craig Mather insists the Ibrox outfit will never forget those who tried to damage the club.

Craig Mather praised fans for sticking by the Rangers in the Third Division

Mather has also vowed the Gers will hit back against their detractors, but only when the time is right.

He told fans at the NARSA convention in San Francisco: “There will be times when you want us to tackle our enemies and it will seem like we’re somehow reluctant to do so or that we don’t care. You might believe we don’t feel hurt to the same extent as you, but we do.

“Sometimes you have to wait. We’ve chosen and we will continually choose the right moment to strike.

“Please, never believe that I or any other directors don’t know the names of the people who have tried to damage this club. We know them all.

“We know what each one’s tried to do and I can assure you we will never, ever forget about that.”

Craig Mather vowed the Rangers will hit back against their detractors

Please, never believe that I or any other directors don’t know the names of the people who have tried to damage this club. We know them all

    Craig Mather

Mather praised the fans for sticking by the club in the Third Division – and believes, with their continued support, that they will get back to the top.

He said: “Rangers are on their way back, make no mistake about that. I don’t believe this club can be deflated because I’ve seen you people in action and I’ve felt the passion you have for Rangers.

“I’ve marvelled at the number of people who have turned up week after week in the Third Division. It has been absolutely fantastic.

“I’m truly humbled to be among you and to be part of the rebuilding at Rangers. Without you, the club would have gone under.

“We’ve had to fight through some very difficult times but you are, by far, the best supporters any club could ever have.

That’s actually very true, my comments were clearly ‘leftfootist’ .

It’s just that left footers are like left handers – a minority, but I’ll bear that in mind.

In the same vein why did we never hear anyone saying ” He could open a tin of

beans with that right foot ” but we hear it often about Eddie Gray and other great left

    footers.

Celtic have a special symmetry when we play Izzy Mulgrew and Ledley and I agree

with others that Johnny Russell would be a great signing for us.

“Without you, the club would have gone under.”

    Well said Craig Mathers.

If the Rangers support hadn’t adopted this new club after Rangers had gone under, Sevco would have gone under too.

  11. I take it Sevco would not get a license in Greece…

The Hellenic Football Federation has to decide on whether to issue licenses to the clubs that will be participating in the Super League, allowing them to compete both in Greek and European competitions. The decision is based mainly on financial criteria for each club and depends on the evidence the club will present to the HFF. It was surprising for the fans to see that, as announced on May 22nd, six out of 16 clubs currently playing in the Greek Super League

were not issued a license to participate in the 2013-14 season. Interestingly enough Panathinaikos was one of them, along with Aris, OFI, Panthrakikos, Panionios and PAS Giannina. The decision was not final and a

series of appeals will follow, possibly allowing most, if not all, of them to play in the Super League after all. It is, however, one of the things that Greek football needs to reflect on. After all, it is troubling to see almost half thecountry’s top flight clubs struggling for their license to play.

    From STV:

“Airdrie United change name to Airdrieonians following Scottish FA approval

Airdrie United have changed their name to that of their predecessors Airdrieonians.

The club, relegated from the First Division this season, will see the name change come into effect for the 2013/14 season after being given permission by the Scottish FA.

Airdrieonians were liquidated in 2002, leading to the creation of Airdrie United in an attempt to keep senior football in the town.

“When the old company went into liquidation, it was in a different football environment and the use of the name was not possible at that time,” Airdrie chairman Jim Ballantyne said in a statement.

“With all the recent changes however, and subsequent rulings, it paved the way for us to make the move and therefore we set the wheels in motion.

“It was actually raised at a fans meeting a few months ago but we could not give too much away as there was still much work to be done.

“However with the support of last year’s club sponsors. E & A Heating Ltd, we were able to progress matters to a conclusion.

“Formal SFA clearance was finally granted at the recent meeting of the Professional Game Board”.

Following Airdrieonians’ liquidation, the new club were unsuccessful in gaining entry to the Third Division, with Gretna being given the place instead.

Airdrie United were then given permission to purchase ailing Clydebank, inheriting their Scottish FA membership and changing the club’s name.

Unless he’s playing that game of pretending the Rangers didn’t go under and, in spite of not going under, was “relegated” to SFL Division 3, forced to play in the Scottish Cup in September and to TUPE across a number of employees, including players, from itself to itself.

  14. We shouldn’t be waiting all summer to see if a player is extending his contract, we should be giving players a deadline. If they don’t sign then we move on with our plans for next season. 6 weeks to first game, i’d give them one more week to decide. I don’t think it would be a good idea to go into CL qualifiers with players who’s minds may be on a move elsewhere.

  21. What’s all the talk about Big Vic leaving us for nothing? Is he not under contract until 2015?

If Arsenal are serious about buying him then the price tag should be a minimum of 15 million. If using CL qualifications in valuing Vic then that would mean two qualifying seasons before he is eligible to leave.

Signed from Beerschot on 4 year deal July 2011 . Basically 2 years left. In approx 18 months he can sign a pre contract agreement and leave for hee haw.

  26. BOBBY MURDOCH'S CURLED-UP WINKLEPICKERS on

Players who wish to leave a club which prides itself on “knowing the history” may do well to have a wee look at the history of other players who thought the bigger picture was elsewhere.

In the case of Gary Hooper,I offer the following quite possible scenario.

He turns down our £30k a week to better himself on £50k with the likes of Norwich,Sunderland,Stoke etc.

He is unlikely to get a team in the upper echelon,IMO.

Should they be relegated, even if he gets them promotion the following season by scoring as many as he has before in that league,he will be viewed as only being able to do it in diddly leagues.

Worse,if he doesn’t his next contract offer is likely to be around £10k per week.

Meaning overall he lost out financially by not staying with us,and has no medals to show the grandkids.

He still has about ten years in the game, with Celtic he will win medals and also need never work again.

Or he can chance his arm that Man Utd will see him eventually as a RVP replacement,Liverpool a Suarez replacement,Chelsea a Torres replacement.

His choice for sure, but I believe he is personally and professionally at the best place he will ever be.

As for PAUL67’s suggestion that we can afford to let him leave for nothing, well,it would be blinkin annoying-but have you seen the form a striker looking for a contract can display?

  27. unionbearBhind on

    oglach

vic already has a 20% sell on clause in that contract, that’s why I would try to do a buy but stay for at least a season? win win they get a player with more European game experience and we have him for CL this season!

    Wow,

So we now have a precedent for a club going bust, screwing the creditors. A failing club with less debt being bought at a bargain bin price and then changing back to the liquidated club. Way to govern Scottish football.

I wonder what teams in the west of Glasgow and paisley will make use of this precedent?

It’s getting worse than a joke now.
