A gentleman that’s going round Turning the joint upside down

1101

There’s a gentleman that’s going round
Turning the joint upside down
Stool Pigeon – ha-cha-cha-cha
He’s an old ex-con that’s been away
Now he’s back, no one’s safe

It’s quite likely that David Grier and Craig Whyte had many conversations they didn’t want replayed on BBC Reporting Scotland.  Their deal to acquire Rangers from Sir David Murray and Lloyds Banking Group would have required many scenarios to be considered, some of which would certainly be unpalatable.  So with this in mind, Grier may have been comfortable discussing strategy with Whyte when the latter recorded their conversation in May this year.  They had been in the proverbial trenches together before and at one time would have had a bond of trust.

What frankly beggars belief is that either party would consider this bond to be still in place a month after Duff and Phelps sued Craig Whyte’s company for £25m.  It’s even more surprising that Mr Grier and Mr Whyte were on such convivial terms – chatting liberally in a restaurant about such a serious matter – while they were supposed to be on opposite sides of a £25m legal action.

We now know that Rangers administration went miles off track soon after it started. Whyte, as we predicted back in October last year, hoped to present creditors and Scottish football with a fait accompli.  Duff and Phelps were to complete the task within days for a fixed fee of a fraction of what they eventually raised.

Instead Duff and Phelps fee increased by a factor of six, Whyte lost control of events and inherited a great deal of litigation, not to mention a police inquiry.  Duff and Phelps must now prepare to tell the truth to Lord Hodge next week.  There are millions of pounds at play here and anything short of the truth could land them in heaps of trouble.

Credit to Mark Daly and Reporting Scotland for landing the recording.  The BBC are taking a pounding this month but this was a stunning item for an evening news bulletin to present.

Craig Whyte, you will remember, threatened to sue Daly last year and managed to convince the hard of thinking that Daly, and the BBC, were victimising Rangers by dishing the dirt on Whyte.  Some still adhere to this belief, despite now realising their Messiah was just a naughty boy, it’s a cognitive dissonance thing.  Another lesson that football fans are fools for bombast.

After all the talk then they wired him
And he took a walk with his crooked friends
And they joked about the good old days
And he recorded it on a reel of tape
He caught the mug who did in the forgery
And the babe in charge of larceny

We have to wonder what liquidators BDO will make of Duff and Phelps actions when they take over next week.  Ha-cha-cha-cha.

  1. Afternoon all

Day off work today so I decided to actually buy a newspaper. I decided to go for the Herald and note not a single reference to Rangers/Oldco/Sevco etc. Whilst I wouldn’t , normally, miss reference to them I am somewhat surprised on the day after further revelations regarding the acquisition of Rangers by Mr Craig Whyte have surfaced that Glasgow’s ‘quality’ newspaper makes no comment on the matter.

Still it is fascinating to read in the same journal that the male lead on the upcoming production of Cinderella at the Alhambra on Dunfemline had been sacked because he was in an Adult film. Phew!

  5. A SHERIFF sent a message out to football fans that sectarian abuse from terracings would not be tolerated in the Highlands by the courts.

Sheriff Ian Abercrombie, who is leaving Inverness to take on a new post as sheriff in Dunfermline, sent a young Rangers fan to a young offenders’ institution for three months following an incident at Caledonian Stadium in Inverness.

Connor McGhie had been found guilty after trial of shouting sectarian abuse at a match between Caley Thistle and Rangers earlier this year

Sheriff Abercrombie said: “A signal needs to be sent out from this court that we will not tolerate this kind of behaviour in Inverness.

“In the Highlands we have many people of different faiths and in Inverness particularly there is a strong immigrant community whose religion is very strong of the faith you were demeaning.

“I have no idea who taught you to hate people simply because of their religious beliefs and I have no idea why you chose, on more than occasion, to sing these sectarian songs.

“Such feelings have no place in society and will not be tolerated.”

McGhie (19) of Castleknowe, Carluke, was found guilty after trial at Inverness Sheriff Court last month of behaving in a threatening or abusive manner by repeatedly singing abusive and sectarian songs at the SPL match between the two sides on February 26 this year. Rangers won 4-1.

Two witnesses employed by the gs4 security firm who were on duty at the match as part of a security liaison team hired by Rangers Football Club identified McGhie as someone in the Rangers supporters enclosure who was shouting sectarian abuse.

Kenneth Smythe (60) told the court he was on duty at the Rangers end and he saw McGhie jump on to a boundary wall to celebrate the third Rangers goal. He was heard to chant: “We hate Celtic Fenian bastards”.

Most fans stop singing but McGhie continued and he was heard to chant “F… the Pope and the Vatican,”

Sentence had been deferred until today for background reports and his solicitor Diane McFarlane told the sheriff both McGhie’s parents were in court.

She said it was a great shame because he was a young person who goes about his day to day business and presented himself as a responsible man, yet in terms of a football match he conducted himself in a disorderly manner.

“His blood was up and he did not calm down like the other supporters. He should have realised he was putting himself at great risk of arrest.”

Ms McFarlane said his family had zero tolerance towards such behaviour.

“He denies saying specific words. He said he had been drinking and got caught up in the moment and did it without thinking.

“The whole incident has caused not only himself great concern but his mother and father. They were deeply concerned at what he has been convicted of.”

The solicitor added that the case had resulted in a degree of public shaming because of press coverage of the case. “It has brought real shame to the family name.”

She said he was a young man with a lot to offer who works with football team locally.

But Sheriff Abercrombie told Ms McFarlane: “It’s the way he did this and the repeated way he did this in front of the stand. It takes my breath away – the pure hatred and bile. I think anyone who attends matches using such disgusting language should be stopped whether its at the front, middle or back (of a stand).

Addressing McGhie, he said: “I am at a loss. One explanation could be you feel your own faith is superior to others.

“Despite everything that has been said I don’t get the feeling there is a true level of contrition.”

Sentencing him to three months, the sheriff added: “A signal needs to be sent out that from this court that we will not tolerate this kind of behaviour in Inverness.”

The sheriff also imposed a six-month order banning McGhie from attending Scottish football grounds

  6. Green, where is he now with his quotes?

Green now has his excuse for TFOD not buying the shares, all this bad press!

Will the MSM have the guts to ask just 2 questions to Paul Murray (?) and Walter.

    a. are you buying Rangers shares?

    b. If not, can you tell the fans, why not?

    Jimbo67

i looked at the sun yesterday, didnt know they did a midweek pullout football section on domestic football, not the CL. 8 pages, i think, 6 all about TFOD

Anyone else see the request for infomation from the police on KDS last night.

The actual attendance at the Death Star for their 2 biggest games in the 3rd Div was 5,000 less than was reported in the press and the offical website etc.

  7. So the attendance was 5000 less and of those actually in the stadium about 10,000 had free tickets. lol!

  8. BIG-CUP-WINNERS on

My third time in Barcelona, each time different. Same wonderful city but equally wonderful contrasts.

This time I was down near coast. What a great build up to the game: spent the morning on the beach, then the late afternoon in Place de Catalunya and Las Ramblas.

I had my 12 year old boy over with me and took him into La Boqueria market to try and cure him of his “allergy” to fresh food, fruit and veg.

Fair play to him he tried a smoothie then plumped for a fresh oyster.

The resulting facial contortions had me the stall holder and a couple of other tourists in stitches. Thought he was going to take off and run round the stall.

Just a wee bit different from a walk up the Gallowgate, and a pie and bovril !

Great times to support the Celtic.

  9. The most staggering thing about all this stuff on Crooks FC is:

We all know that the full weight of the Masonic movement is being applied to covering up as much of the criminal activity as possible.

Despite all of this we still see story after story after story coming to light.

And we have still only seen the tip of the iceberg.

I guess the Sevconians are terrified about global warming!!!

  10. Got back from my first visit to Barcelona late last night, absolutely knackered but had a great few days. Met a couple fellow CQN posters and shared plenty of beers. Great atmosphere everywhere and especially in Plaza Reial where we were staying. I’ve started to save for the away trip in the last 16 already.

  12. Excellent stuff Paul and a good wee reminisce (is that a word) for us 80-ists (not to be confused with atheists)!

Never mind Lord Hodge though. Just read that two judges want to overturn Sarah’s law – which allows parents to find out if sex offenders live nearby – in favour a repeat offender, because of his rights. Totally outrageous.

The judges names – and these are not made up – are Sir John Thomas and Mr Justice Hickenbottom. Bizarre.

  13. I'm Neil Lennon (tamrabam) on

Charles Green has replied about the alleged Craig Whyte / Duff and Phelps recordings.

We have been punished enough and anything that Craig Whyte has done or said has nothing to do with us because we are a brand new club with a 140 years history, and no connections to the previous club, and Ally McCoist is a great manager so he is. The passion here is amazing and I made cups of tea for fans and I am a blue nose and I’m not in it for the money, and the SPL is to be reconstructed because the bigots can’t do without us.
