Bobby Clark was the first Aberdeen goalkeeper I knew. He was thought of highly, until Jim Leighton and colleagues stepped the performance levels up a pace at Aberdeen. He has two places in the history books, one for the longest period not to concede a goal in Scottish league football, which when established in 1971 was also the European record. He was also the first goalkeeper in European competition to face a penalty in a penalty kick competition.
Back in the dark days of the late 90s I had a Celtic mug with the message ‘Records can be broken but history can never be changed: Celtic, first British team to win the European Cup, 1967’. Bobby Clark lost his European record within months and at Tynecastle next week Fraser Forster can break his Scottish record. Bobby’s place as first to face a penalty competition is his in perpetuity.
Records are harder to break than they should be. People get nervous when they approach, but it will be enormously satisfying if Celtic can sail through 31 minutes at Tynecastle without conceding.
Back in 2011 and early 2012 practically the entire CQN community was discussing Rangers impending insolvency event as an absolute certainty, but we’ve never been the most impartial community. It was not until Daily Record journos stopped applying to Our Hero for a job and suggested ‘this excrement is about to get real’ that the penny dropped in many places.
This included portions of the Celtic support, who responded to the ‘news’ with a Congo line at Inverness, at the same time forever changing the substance of jelly and ice cream; a kind of transubstantiation, if you like. This was no longer a sweet, it is nourishment for the ages.
Now the same newspaper has been authorised to run a story that there is doubt over this month’s payroll – would they dare suggest as much without authorisation? When your friends are telling you they can hear the bell toll, you know where this is heading.

I don’t know if anyone else thinks that the Zombie who phoned Shortbread on Saturday was the “Kilmarnock” fan who called 5 live last year to moan about Celtic receiving too much praise when beating Barcelona. He claimed there wasn’t half the fuss when Rangers beat Lyon. A Celtic fan sussed him right away and i’m sure he put the phone down once his cover was blown. I’m sure it’s the same guy.

My facing memory of Bobby Clark is that when the Dandy Dons took the lead that the aforementioned Bobby held the world record for taking his time to retrieve a ball, and actually take a goal kick.

I remember my Dad once talking to one of my uncles about him, I think we must have got beat as he was a bit miffed, to say the laest.
Anyway I remember him saying Clark repeatedly picked the ball back up and continually wiped it before replacing the ball and doing the same thing again. At the time it made no sense to me as I was young, must have been around 1971-2, looking back it was obviously an inference that Clark was deliberately time wasting.

I don’t know but I can see it being one of those convoluted accounting things that makes no sense. RFC Ltd is a wholly owned subsidiary of RIFC. It’s cash is the parents cash, it’s debt is the parent debt etc.
I know the following isn’t fully correct but it gives an idea of how the figures might be twisted.
So RIFC Plc gets £20M it gives it to RFC Ltd – it now has £0 and a -£20M on the accounts but the football club has £20M – overall the companies are all square.
Cue several months later – the club has spent the £20M and now has £0M on it’s accounts. The Plc still has no cash but now has a -£20M on it’s accounts and is now in debt.

If this is the only change being hinted at I would suggest that we take no part in it.
Again we would still have no access to a level playing field financially – Scottish clubs would simply serve the purpose of providing cannon fodder for the wealthier clubs down south and really could do more damage than good.
If that is all thats on offer I would politely decline and concentrate on methods to improve the standards up here.

I think Chris Graham et all, are certifiable in the pursuit of a real Rangers. There is more chance of a floating casino (or was it a pitch?) than England allowing that toxicity near their non league tables.
With regard to Celtic, I think a safe standing and other new initiatives will stem the fan drift, and secure a healthy .30k plus season ticket base, and we’ll prevail accordingly.
The more upheaval and bereftness of investment there is, adds another title to Celtic, roll on Sevco in admin one.
