A journalist friend in Norway tells me Jo Inge Berget is a traditional no. 10, not a striker. We need both. Kris Commons fills the creative roll almost exclusively, we need someone to share the burden, but we still need a strong, penalty box striker, who can stand up to the pressures of Champions League football.

Best of luck to Tony Watt, best of luck to Standard too, who I hear have put a lot of skin in his contract. Belgium should give him a better chance of fulfilling his potential than anywhere in the UK. It’s head down and work hard time.

    Too many people worry about the following.

     

    How much a player costs

     

    How much a player earns

     

    How much a player can be sold for

     

    How much a player is sold for

     

    All money issues. Think about what they do on the pitch. Every player in our squad is replaceable. I don’t ever panic when a player is sold.

     

    If they go they go. 95% of the players who leave by choice regret it.

     

    Celtic will always roll on.

    Don;t see the obssession with money myself. If we can get a great player for a pittance should we not buy him because he must be rubbish? That seems to be the attitude of many on here. He didn;t cost much so must be mince. Really don’t get it.

     

    Ronny is just aropund now realising what he needs. I like the way he is operating. Would have been very easy to panic buy when getting the job. He has even realised now that he needs another coach. He is taking a very methodical approach.

    For once I agree in part with the prolific ramblings of mr Kevin Jungle. Kris Commons did not contribute much in the group stages last season. Neither did any player. I still blame tactics on the poor performances but Kris Commons for all his ability does not have the pace to impact on the top tier teams.

     

    I doubt very much that Commons earns over 20k per week but would think he would look for the same for his last contract as a pro. We offered Samaras nothing because he offered little in terms of results according to Paul. (Again I would contest that formations in Champions League neutralised Sammys effectiveness.)

     

    If you apply the Sammy logic to Commons he will soon be out of the door provided we get the right offer. Lets say £1.5m.

     

    We are then left to perm a forward line from 3 number 10s plus Griffiths. I think Griffiths is limited in comparison to other strikers we have had in the past. Conclusion is we need a goalscorer… One who creates goals from nothing and can play up front on his own for long periods.

     

    3 number 10s are Stokes, Pukki, new chap.

    We wouldn’t have been in the CL last year if it weren’t for Commons putting us 1-0 up against Karagandy.

     

     

    Those writing him off would do well to remember he remains our biggest threat and the side around him was weaker than the year before.

     

     

    He knows where the goal is in the SPFL and its in the same place in the CL – opportunites to score will be fewer there of course but he remains our best bet.

    Right, I bhoycotted when WGS arrived.

     

    Then employment misfortune came my way and, I fond that I wasn’t as flush as before so, something had to give – family budget trimmed to feed the CP billionaires or, SB trimmed to make sure priorities stayed as they should be – family first.

     

    Now, I could afford a SB but, will hedge my bets to see what happens with the standing area. That fair enough?

    Bada bing. I’m not advocating getting rid of Commons as I think he is still needed for the SPL and the champions league qualifiers but he has not got the pace to play in the forward line in the champions league.

     

    Fine if you are trying to break down a packed defence with a pass or a shot but not so good 40 yards from the oppositions goal with no team mate to pass to. Commons may be ok at getting the ball from our defence to find a runner but we need folk who can run to get the ball in the first place. I could be wrong but this is why Kris was not an automatic choice in the Champions League.

    Just read that Tony Watt got a 5-year contract at Standard Liege. Whoever thought that was a good idea should not be in football management. Congrats to Tony though – he will be able to do his normal thing there and milk them for a ton of cash. Beats what I have to do for a living.
