A number 10

936

A journalist friend in Norway tells me Jo Inge Berget is a traditional no. 10, not a striker. We need both. Kris Commons fills the creative roll almost exclusively, we need someone to share the burden, but we still need a strong, penalty box striker, who can stand up to the pressures of Champions League football.

Best of luck to Tony Watt, best of luck to Standard too, who I hear have put a lot of skin in his contract. Belgium should give him a better chance of fulfilling his potential than anywhere in the UK. It’s head down and work hard time.

i listened to your podcast toady while at the gym, you don’t sound THAT auld btw.

if i can just go back to around 2 years ago (you and i had a difference of opinion) it was about refs being biased or just being incompetent. I reckoned they were just incompetent. I understood that you felt they were biased. I took pelters for my stand. In the podcast you seemed to feel that they were incompetent, (although you touched on a subject of higher influences affecting the refs)

Regarding Kev J he can certainly hold his own and definitely doesn’t need my help, a few folks have confirmed he is a celtic man, its a shade disappointing when so many posters (not all) attack him personally rather than his views. if you disagree with a poster opinion then you should address that. Most folks don’t even know the guy.

I disagree with you. People should be entitled to express what they think about Celtic here whether it is in praise of Celtic or criticising it. What is the point of the thing otherwise.

I dont give two flying ones if journalists read this or other Celtic blogs – they would just make up the same rubbish anyway.

Saying that I think Kris Commons is rubbish and that Peter Lawwell is the biggest villain since Mao might be extreme – and would get me rightly harangued by others on the board. ( well the bit about KC anyway!) but it should be allowed on a Celtic supporters site

    LIBERTADORES NEWS ALERT

    ++++++++++++++++++++++++

Libertadores semi finals, 2nd leg this week.

Although not the same calibre of fitba (and a fraction of the budget) the Libertadores has at least thrown up the distinct possibility that two teams (seeded 15th and 16th respectively) who have never made it this far before, will feature in the finals. Something that would be unthinkable in the Champions League (or at least have UEFA scrambling for a reformat the following season).

Anyway, tonight see’s Uruguay’s Defensor host Nacional of Paraguay.

Nacional, who are 2-0 up from the first leg, were the team with the worst qualifying record from the group stages, but have surprised everybody in how they’ve performed since. They travelled with a full squad, including West Ham reject Brian Montenegro who was MOTM in the first leg.

Defensor have been struggling to sell tickets for this game and it could be the last game for Giorgan de Arrascaeta (take note Paul – if you want to talk about “traditional No.10’s look no further than this boy) who has a sell clause as soon as Defensor exit the Libertadores.

Somehow or other I think this match could turn into a real S.American free for all.

Elsewhere, Ronaldinho has parted ways with Atletico-MG and is likely to go onto the MSL, Qatar or somewhere else where overweight, wasted talent players go (no word of him going to Belgium, mind you).

  7. It’s bone of contention with me when I come on here and read about Celtic duds and being single fish as well as Peter Lawell’s bonus. Although it irks me I actually laughed when Sydney Whim stated that he was keeping the pressure up on him and the board….I bet big Peter is quaking in his shoes at a digger far far away.

As I have said before Celtic have always been a selling club whether it be for money or disciplinary reasons.

It wasn’t Peter who sold fans favourite Tommy McInally the Hi Hi as a result of his playing the clown than being a footballer and on occasions his poor fitness and conditioning…it was the great Willie Maley who we love to sing about…although in all fairness he brought him back 3 seasons later.

It wasn’t Peter who tried to sell James Edward McGrory to the Arse to pay for a new stand …again it was the great WM…who when Jimmy refused tae leave us docked his wages.

It wasn’t Peter who sold the great Jimmy Delaney to Manre…possibly Bob Kelly who if Jock hadn’t come back to put him in his place and allowed history to be kind to him…interfering oul bu88er who cost us endless grief and multiple trophies.

It wasn’t Peter who sold Bobby Collins and Willie Fernie tae pay for the floodlights….possibly Bob Kelly again.

It wasn’t Peter who sold wee Ten Thirty after he stood up tae thug shearer …it was Bob Kelly…although like Willie Maley 40 years previously he did give in tae Jock and brought him back.

It wasn’t Peter who sold a huge fan favourite Paddy Crerand after a blow out with Sean Fallon in the dressing room at half time at hades….it was Bob Kelly again.

It wasn’t Peter who sold huge prospect Frank Brogan (could play both wings and 17 goals in 48 games during the barren years) after he ran away from thug shearer…it was Bob Kelly…what Bob should have done in the case of Bertie and Frank and earlier John Higgins whose career as ruined by the thug was stood up for the bhoys instead of playing ‘Mr Nice Guy” in his SFA role.

It wasn’t Peter who wanted tae sell big Billy, wee Jinky and the Buzz Bomb…it was Bob Kelly….thank the Lord Jock came back and saved the day.

It wasn’t Peter who flogged big Yogi, Wispy, Skip tae ma Lou, Davie Hay (which probably ended George Connelly’s career), big Tam and Kenny…it was Jock who didnae like players who stood up to him….see the Faither at Hibs.

It wasn’t Peter who sold Charlie Nick….it was big Billy although to be fair to him Desmond White probably had a lot to do with this..

I could go on but to blame the best chief Executive we have ever had is absolutely ludicrous and not befitting to a true Celtic Mhan, or Whomahn.

    1st £100

    2nd £75

    3rd £50

Or alternatively, winners can choose to donate any winnings to a Celtic charity of their choice.

Also if by some miracle I end up in the top 3, the winnings will be passed onto the next placed team.

  9. Sorry if posting on a football related matter offends…:-)

But is does anyone think Ronny will NOT play the following line up as against Legia tomorrow?

    ……………………….Forster……………………..

    Lustig……..Ambrose………VVD……….Izzy

    ……………Johansen……Mulgrew…………..

    Griffiths……….Commons……..McGregor

    ……………………….Pukki………………………..

I hope Ronny has done his homework on Legia, as I would only use the above line up if I was expecting to dominate possession, and expect to win the game. It is an attacking line up with limited/no defensive cover for our full backs (Leigh and Calum are hardly defensive in nature).

If Ronny expects a tough game were he would gladly take a score draw, I’d prefer a more solid midfield, with one (or two) from Biton, Kayal or Matthews in there at the expense of Calum (and/or Leigh or Teemu).

All depends on how good Legia are deemed to be (as viewed by coaches)
