Roy Keane stayed away from Celtic because he knew already that he would have to play the puppet to the prawn-sandwich-brigade. The very same kind of prawn-sandwich-brigade that stuck in his throat so badly that he couldn’t stand being in their company in the Japan/SK World Cup Finals and came home.

I still have the world cup Irish issued stamps with Keane on them. How embarrassing was that?

    Anyway, I digress.

We have the major shareholder who couldn’t give a fiddler’s fart about Celtic, and his lacky of a CEO who only gives a fart about his remuneration, which he will retain quite easily as long as he kowtows to the Dermot Desmond line.

Some on here really have to put things into perspective .

We have dropped 5 league points this season .

2 at Kilmarnock : If Celtic had won by 10 then the hosts could have had no complaints.

3 at Pittodrie yesterday ; MIB does his job correctly then Celtic would be leading a team with 9 men .

People pressing panic buttons way too soon.

Someone in here last night telling us that sevco would beat us . Give me strength !!!

I realise we are falling way short in terms of Europe , but domestically we remain the major force .

  4. No Macjay in this day and age the CEO has total control Board members carry out day to day activities as I said finance maintenance etc

Pl would have been able to find a position like theCEO at Celtic park that would have similar numeration or length of stay

He knows how it’s possible to keep investment low and debt low to ensure his pension plan Is filled

What happen park is not of any I to him

But sadly we can’t complete with the Sweden Poland , Slovenia’s of Europe while still being peddled the spin we can’t complete with SKy TV money. Money that as far as I am aware does not flow into these lesser clubs from lesser leagues that we can’t compete with

  6. Macjay. I really don’t know what sort of coach RK is

But Ronny said during transfer window that he needed experience and got projects

He said last year he did not want loans and got them

  7. Good morning CQNers,

It’s when you think back on real bad moments that the most recent one just becomes insignificant.

  17. macjay1 for Neil Lennon on

    There seems to be unanimity.

This is bigger than the loss of three points at Pitoddrie.

  18. That was hard work.

The levels of abuse on here last night were in direct proportion to how rotten Celtic were yesterday.

Jeez, I’m like many generally pleased with how our club is run and apart from living wage, stewarding, police involvement with the club and stance on whichever hun branch is in vogue, like financial stability that seems at the heart of the strategy, but even happy clappy me sees that unless results and performances improve starting Thursday, changes will have to be made.

I have supported RD since day 1 and defended the CL catastrophes hoping upon hope that my gut instinct bout Ronnie was right and it would come good.

It seemed to for the second half of last season but here we are again with team that don’t look like they understand the system, a goalie short on confidence, a defence that is all over the place with a non playing CB purchased at the not inconsiderable cost of c£2.5m .

We have one performing striker who is likely to face punitive SFA action very soon and a few midfielders seem jaded and unfit.

Replacing Ronnie would be a wrench for me. I admire his philosophy and think this could be a PLG moment but something is very wrong at the club.

Replacing PL is pointless because he only does what DD tells him.

Ousting DD needs to be the goal and we all know KevJ and Neganons way to do that.

    Starve them out.

Would the bulk of the support stomach it?

How bad does it have to get?

DD gives the CEO one remit. Keep debt low

How the club goes about it is up to the CEO

Either reduce investment and reduce income streams and sell your best players to make up for reduced income

Or invest at the correct time before CL and increase income and keep the debt low

Up to CEO how he does it

He had chosen reduce investment part which has destroyed our team Seriously. One striker and boyata and blackertt !!!!

PL worked at Scottish coal to stop investment and reduce costs

He is not a forward thinking CEO and is destroying our club

  24. I think I said it on here a couple of weeks ago after the Malmo results. What is wrong at Celtic just now? We should be a better team than this stuff we are seeing. They look like a team lacking in confidence. I realise there are new players to bed in (I think Boyata has been a huge mistake) but when you pay the kind of money we paid for our new central defender and not even include him on the bench for a run out, what is going on?

I was reminded of the saying ‘ it’s not the size of the dog in the fight that counts it’s the size of the fight in the dog that matters’…. And I think that partly explains yesterday . Aberdeen fought to win.

But…. It only partly explains it – we have too many poodles in our team. I felt Biton got pass marks. Griffiths was his usual self – he’s become my favourite Celtic player from current squad. He wants to win every game. He is a wee guy with a big fight in him.

The others were just not good enough. Scott Brown not my cup of tea but he’s allowed a sub par performance so I’d cut him slack but too many others just not got it.

  27. Sydneytim

    Sorry.

should have read your post properly.

The alternative is deemed to be too risky.

Wrongly in my opinion but DD would replace PL with a clone and the same direction would I believe be followed.

  28. Summi. I agree about commons. He is our only link player. Our only player with a brain

  30. Macjay

Good morning. Hope you are well.

    Re Peter Lawell

I’ve never voiced opinion on here as to my thoughts on his merits or otherwise, until this post.

I view his role in the same vein as my own in many respects, though in different environments. I work for investors who purchase ailing companies that we feel have potential and my remit is quite simple when the acquisition completes. Make it profitable.

Only 2 months ago, I began working on the latest project. To succeed in a very competitive market I need to grab an increased market share, and I can only achieve that by bringing in better equipment, to improve efficiency and quality.

Initially, I need to invest money that will take us further into the red. The investors don’t bat an eyelid at this strategy. They know that it is necessary to help establish us as a competitive entity. Contrast that to the views of many supporters on here, and elsewhere, where there is a fear of spending money. Paul 67 refers to it often. ” everything we bring in goes out again”.

That’s a flawed concept. Often to progress, you need to, at least short term, put out more than you bring in, to capitalise on your potential. The cry if ” we don’t want to end up like Rangers” is often aired, but that was a company who continued to spend significantly more than they brought in, which indicates they didn’t spend wisely.

Returning to the manufacturing analogy, when I invest in better equipment, and see the result is better quality, it would be pretty foolish of me to sell it off and replace with a lesser piece of equipment, yet in footballing terms, that’s exactly what we continue to do. Forster, Wanyama and VVD the most recent examples, replaced tens of millions of ££ of assets flogged off, and replaced by others who don’t come remotely close to replicating the loss. It’s a recipe for disaster. It’s happening, slowly but surely, it’s happening.

Very soon we will be left with players who not only are incapable of performing in the lucrative European market, but who are being tested even in the domestic market.

In business, some customers stick with you regardless, because it’s what they do. A relationship exists between buyer and seller for various reasons. Often, it’s a form of emotional attachment. ” I always buy an iPhone”, or ” I stick with Audi’s”. So there are a number of customers who will be there regardless.

That’s certainly true in Celtic’s case. Such an emotional attachment formed from an early age, that it’s bonding.

If however a company operates under the assumption that those buyers will always be there, regardless, ignoring the wider marketplace, over time, that share will drop off, and we are seeing that at Celtic Park now.

Celtic have a huge potential. The potential to fill the ground every game. It will only ever happen if we are in the Champions League, domestically, only Rangers will fill that ground whether people like that idea or not.

If we continue in the vein we are, those diehards who will attend regardless, will be the only ones there.

If Peter Lawell has a Main KPI to balance the books, you won’t find a better man for the job.

If however the ambition is to have a team competing in Europe’s top tournament , filling the ground, and balancing the books, they had better replace him ASAP and bring in someone who can invest £20m or so wisely, by employing scouting staff to secure U.S. players who can take us forward, and a manager who can get the best from the players.

Being afraid of going into the red is going to see the end of Celtic as any kind of force in Europe ever again, and when that happens and DD sells up, any new investors will need to spend thrice the amount that it would take now, and that WOULD be a problem.

    Only my opinion of course.

  31. CultsBhoy likes living wage hates heated driveways on

Watching Boyata and Blackett reminded me how far you can get by being big and looking like an athlete… Even if you have limited footballing ability… Incredibly that coaches further back in their careers didn’t punt them.
