Act before talk of shaming the club

1133

“I said to the players at half time that we were shaming the club at the moment and they had to go out and show some pride in the shirt”, the words of Neil Lennon to the BBC after the game on Saturday.

Pride in the shirt is a requirement any manager should ask of his team, and it is notable that the subsequent goal-scorers both have strong connections to the club, but it probably had little to do with the second half performance from Anthony Stokes, Charlie Mulgrew and our the impressive James Forrest.  Calls to pride are limited in what they can achieve, genuine talent is far more effective.

At the AGM on Friday and again in his post-match comments on Saturday, Neil alluded to the fragility of his own position.  Had the game finished 3-0 to Kilmarnock I think he would have walked away.  This would have been a great pity.

Neil is learning on the job. He was not gifted the benefits of experience without actually having to work through difficult times as a manager.  Before his thoughts turn to his own position, before our season is too far gone to save, he should recruit an experienced assistant.  Someone who knows the challenges of working with a disparate group of players, who can deal with the challenges of a demanding board and supporter base.

The need for a mentor was evident 18 months ago and is screamingly so now.  For the sake of Celtic, do the necessary.

  4. Last thing before bed, I’m delighted to hear the news about the Hillsborough files being released.

I have no love for Liverpool FC (I have no love for any Club but ours) but of course have nothing but sympathy and support for those who lost loved ones that day.

The whole way the Hillsborough disaster was handled stank of complacency to my mind. It felt like they were dismissed as “just football fans” who are clearly of a lower order. Worse still, they were “just Scouse football fans”, a lower order still.

    Not good enough.

    Justice for the 96.

I think you’ve been watching a bit too much of that Strictly Hun Dancing!

I met him a few times with the journalist Jim Rodger and I have to say I changed my mind totally about him after meeting him. He really seemed a lovely bloke.

But talking about dancing, I can never forget the way he danced all over Bobby Lennox’s leg in the 1-0 game at Ibrox. Absolutely shocking!

Nothing you won’t have heard dozens of times here and on RTC etc.

Only surprising inclusion was the frank admission that they will enter administration if they lose the tax bill. Again, nothing we haven’t known for months.

Reporting Scotland business reporter concluded his report saying, “the club could run out of money within weeks”. Amazingly there was no elaboration on this point in the 10 minute feature with the same reporter on Newsnight which followed.

To be fair to Young, he has actually tried to cover this story with some integrity. Jabba’s disgraceful bullying of him during THAT exchange seems all the more absurd now as the mainstream media are forced to admit what the online Celtic community has known for months.

Yes maybe communism but not democratic socialism and really communism does not say they are incompatible, apparently only my church but I know priests who are socialist… I wonder what the church of Scotland or the other christian churches view on socialism is? They are saying that material needs is not the only need man has but that comes from the incorrect assumption that a socialist society would need be an atheist one and probably inspired by misinterpretation of Marx’s work and that it need be a society where man does not still share things in other non state sponsored ways which I think is wrong. As far as I was aware socalism is not a religious question and thus the popes indefatigably may not apply on this matter that, as a catholic, is what I hope and believe.

  20. Douglas Fraser on Newsnicht Scotland mentioned that the huns tax tribunal reconvenes in November.

Now, as we all know, the huns managed to persuade the tribunal that the hearing should be held in private. This is extremely unusual. It’s normally only allowed if there would be a threat to national security or the safety of witnesses if the hearing was public.

I just wonder if the Scottish media might now just have the balls to challenge the decision to have the hearing in private?

Come to think of it, it might just suit Whyte’s agenda too, to let the fans know just who and what has caused the huns insolvency.
