Act before talk of shaming the club

1133

“I said to the players at half time that we were shaming the club at the moment and they had to go out and show some pride in the shirt”, the words of Neil Lennon to the BBC after the game on Saturday.

Pride in the shirt is a requirement any manager should ask of his team, and it is notable that the subsequent goal-scorers both have strong connections to the club, but it probably had little to do with the second half performance from Anthony Stokes, Charlie Mulgrew and our the impressive James Forrest.  Calls to pride are limited in what they can achieve, genuine talent is far more effective.

At the AGM on Friday and again in his post-match comments on Saturday, Neil alluded to the fragility of his own position.  Had the game finished 3-0 to Kilmarnock I think he would have walked away.  This would have been a great pity.

Neil is learning on the job. He was not gifted the benefits of experience without actually having to work through difficult times as a manager.  Before his thoughts turn to his own position, before our season is too far gone to save, he should recruit an experienced assistant.  Someone who knows the challenges of working with a disparate group of players, who can deal with the challenges of a demanding board and supporter base.

The need for a mentor was evident 18 months ago and is screamingly so now.  For the sake of Celtic, do the necessary.

  1. Just watched the report on the scumbag who got 8 months suspended today for sectarian comments and anti Celtic Lennon comments on a web site.

Must admit I’m surprised he didn’t get off.

Doesn’t look like he’d be capable of being able to read and write never mind boot up a PC.

Looked more like your friendly knife wielding junkie scumbag.

  2. Tim boy Mudroch and well Jim White are two for a start and one of the hot chic’s that reports seems to have glee on her face when we don’t do well. I know this yet I wan’t to see football, I wish a comapany with resources and fresh ideas would take over the viewing rights of the SPL. I would even be willing for us to take a far lower Tv deal if it meant better commentators and fairer coverage.

17 October, 2011 at 22:14Great night at the U19s. Great to meet Vmhan, TonCheDan and Googybhoy.

Great to.meet you all. Celtic first we need to finish that conversation about Blairs.

Swansea.Bhoy great to meet you too.

    Inaugural meeting of Cqn NW.

That was the best Celtic display I have seen this season. We totally outplayed City. All the City fans round us applauded some of our goals esp. third goal.

Tony Watt and Paul George are stars

Tony Watt is big enough and strong enough to play in first team.

Two centre backs comfortable on the ball. Willing to run with.the ball st their feet.

Great touch, speed and confidence on the ball by all our players.

    Hail hail.

You know not much of Jimmy Carter, you know nothing about few other things.

Please do me a favor and never say here that Christianity and Communism are consistent. You are wind up merchant, ignorant or somebody who comes from the other side. I’m not going to give you long list of the documents were you can find Church real views on Communism. I hope one of the oldest “Quod apostolici muneris” 1878, will help you to revise your views. Don’t tamper with the serious things. And please, don’t shoot to people, whatever time of the day or night, whoever they are. Most of the people here love peace.

  5. did I hear that news reader correctly there????

The whole peice was on what a sad day it is that John Greig is leaving rangers etc etc,…..then at the end managed to crowbar in …..rangers can also run out of money within weeks….seems odd that.

Good to see the under 19’s do well in Manchester tonight. They play Manchester City again at Celtic park on 7th November.

And more importantly, I am up to 215th in the CQN fantasy football with my first win of the season :-)

  7. JOHN GREIG?

Let me tell you THIS! And you’re hearing this straight from the horse – John Greig was better looking than Billy McNeill. He was a better dresser than Billy McNeill. He had more hair! He told funnier jokes! And he could dance the PANTS off of Billy McNeill!

I think we would all like a couple of Dianbobo Balde or John Greig type players in our team right now.

The difference is we would not vote Bobo as our greatest ever Celt.

That underlines the difference in mentality of their fans.

MWD why do people become junkie scumbags wielding knifes? Why won’t politicians tackle the causes of knife crime and why wont we encourage people to think long and hard about marriage thus decreasing the amount of divorce because its a fact, poverty, broken homes and enviroment have a massively detrimental impact on the life one can achieve. Lack of support, jobs, training and proper role models also play a part.If your parent is a bigoted smack head it lends itself to you becoming one as well, I am not saying some don’t drag themselves up by their boot straps but far more don’t. Longer sentences is only part of the solution to ignore the other problems means the problem will always exist and I really believe problems of this scale need not exist.

Saw that too. It was as if they were rounding up with “Rangers face Hearts at Tynecastle on Saturday” or “tickets are still on sale for tomorrow night”. But no, a casual “they could run out of money within weeks”.

The interview with the bear in the Louden was staggering. “I think Greig leaving is a good thing because it means Craig Whyte can bring his own people in. We’ve been stuck in a rut the last few years and going out of Europe early every year (no they haven’t) so this will help us get back on track”

  24. Zybyzek, hmm so your a capitalist fair play but I don’t believe every priest is right about everything, and I am too thick to know any Latin. I think the second Vatican council did away with the need to know a very old language. Fair play to the traditionalists, fair play to conservatives, foul play to classical liberals. Fair play to Positive/modern/progressive liberals. Are you from Poland or Czech Republic? I hope our ideological differences can be just allowed to rest at that and agree where we can about our team.
