Act before talk of shaming the club

1133

“I said to the players at half time that we were shaming the club at the moment and they had to go out and show some pride in the shirt”, the words of Neil Lennon to the BBC after the game on Saturday.

Pride in the shirt is a requirement any manager should ask of his team, and it is notable that the subsequent goal-scorers both have strong connections to the club, but it probably had little to do with the second half performance from Anthony Stokes, Charlie Mulgrew and our the impressive James Forrest.  Calls to pride are limited in what they can achieve, genuine talent is far more effective.

At the AGM on Friday and again in his post-match comments on Saturday, Neil alluded to the fragility of his own position.  Had the game finished 3-0 to Kilmarnock I think he would have walked away.  This would have been a great pity.

Neil is learning on the job. He was not gifted the benefits of experience without actually having to work through difficult times as a manager.  Before his thoughts turn to his own position, before our season is too far gone to save, he should recruit an experienced assistant.  Someone who knows the challenges of working with a disparate group of players, who can deal with the challenges of a demanding board and supporter base.

The need for a mentor was evident 18 months ago and is screamingly so now.  For the sake of Celtic, do the necessary.

Nothing if not predictable……still worried about your ongoing fascination..

  2. Fair play MWD, however someone commented on my post to you and knew exactly what I was getting at.

Either I am truly as dire a lyricist as you claim or perhaps you are not a great interpreter.

Just saying like. Hag em and flog em that’s your syle?

I hope that wasn’t too obtuse.

I’ve been outed as a charlatan and a cad tonight, so best take Sean’s word for it. I can remember the announcement in the stadium and thought I remembered the number, but then when Sean posted his, that rang more true.

I must have been distracted by plotting a rouse to relieve a dowager duchess somewhere of a Rembrandt.

Anyhow, last word from me for the night is that it’s amazing what going to watch a Celtic team try its heart out and win can do for the spirits. I heartily recommend it.

  4. If the hun go out of business i predict our outgoings will be trimmed to keep us just ahead of hearts, motherwell or whoever our board think we should be pipping to the title.

As much as i’d enjoy seeing them gathering with their pitchforks and torches on edminston drive i sense we would simply contract as i don’t believe our board has any ambition – apart from submitting accounts which are better than theirs.

  5. Cults he just assassinated one of my better posts, says a lot about his high opinion of himself….I don’t agree with everything you write but I will defend your right to say it. Unless its incitement to racial hatred, like the guy done today…

  6. So Newsnight was interesting then and the Craig Whyte Files to follow on Thursday?

The BBC obviously didn’t get Jabba or Chick Dung to put that programme together.

ONe thing which will be exposed terribly at the wind up of this is just how pathetic the media in Scotland have been. For months they were selling the line of everything is hunky dory. Well it appears more and more weight is going to fall on them now.

I have heard people say it will prove the Celtic board correct. Maybe but it will not remove one iota of the pain of the last 3 years.

Coming out the other end a strong club and them a weak club in my view will be a good thing may put us in a good position but the question should be asked – why when Celtic could have accelerated this process much sooner by winning the league and depriving them of CL money which has given them a 3 year reprieve did they not go for the throat?

If the inevitable outcome was them going into administration, why did our lot not get it done sooner and get our own club that CL money from which we could have done how many in a row?

Retrospective I know but a fair question I feel.

I personally could have done with seeing the Cardigan shown up for what he really is – a chequebook manager who got away with the crime of the footballing century by winning those titles aided and abetted by Honest mistakes, a magic video review panel and bigots sending bullets and bombs.

I could have done without Ross County or the loss of trophies that should have been sitting in the Celtic trophy cabinet.

I could have done without tony Mowbray, 4-0 to St Mirren, collapses in the highlands and the woeful way in which Celtic have tried to qualify for Europe by buying cheaply or for free to get more money.

IF and I stress IF they go to the wall or administration I will jump for joy.

Some think they are running out of cash and won’t be able to pay the bills – good.

But until the A word is splattered all over the Beeb and elsewhere as official we should not get too excited.

  7. I’ve always judged my team on the success/performance on the pitch. I go home and away in spl and fair share in Europe.

After reading McFadden signed for Everton after what our manager was directed to tell us has left me utterly disgusted. Maybe not a bad thing(in regard to the player concerned) but as far as I can see our manager openly said he was interested pre/post agm.

There’s rumours abound most of which are nonsense but ultimately we have no direction and, as it pains me to say, if peter lawell is still an employee of Celtic when my renewal drops in summer 2012 it will go in the bin.

As far I’m concerned, neil lennon included, we’ve been lied to enough. I’m sick to the back teeth of it. We’re a joke. It needs sorted. And sorted quickly.

  8. Just got home from the Nextgen Series match at Manchester City. Good game in torrential rain. Celtic were comfortable winners on the night (4-2) and were zippy, organised, hungry and pacey. Paul George the Twardzic lads and Dylan McGeoch were our most impressive players. The first team could learn a thing or two from these kids in terms of work rate and desire. Best £3 I’ve spent in a while…

The whole concept of G.O.D. pushed by this site was based on ‘ a chequebook manager’ or at least a ‘chequebook club’. I go along with the the fact that they speculated and gambled to chase a mirage, but we did not even bother to invest in our dreams.

We sniggered at their plight and smugly viewed the world through a kaleidoscope of twisted reflections in a hall of distorting mirrors.

There is a better way, there always has been and maybe in the next year or so we will try and follow it.

  12. I not convinced a mentor is the answer, I’ve been saying for a few years experienced players are whats required.

How many punts on young players can one club take?

Maybe with fingers burnt after their latest £2m gamble on Mohamed Bangura the people that take these expensive decisions will have a rethink on signing policy.

Fans are wrong to say the club doesn’t spend enough money. Since Dermot Desmond became the biggest shareholder he has ensured we have the biggest football budget in Scotland how that budget is getting spent is the real issue.

  13. Hope you do cults, although he refused to give me his email, saying that I probably would only have emailed him Infrequently and probably with “leftist” material he may have found a trifle distasteful. Any ways I am hoping to grab a priest some time who is willing to argue against that dogma zybrezk directed me to, when I do I will come on here with the arguments as there is ALWAYS wiggle room.

  14. The Honest Cover-up on

Supposedly any Rangers season ticket holder who ticked the “include friendly games” box were debited £25 for the Liverpool friendly the day after it was announced. I reckon that most of the sectarian bigots ticked this box to enjoy the love-in with their fellow right-wing, white supremacist “blues brothers” Chelsea so that may give MBBCW say £300-400k to keep the club limping on. Also, I believe they have arranged an away game against Hamburg which should give them a match fee (another club with notorious right wing supporters who have a “special relationship” with the Govan boys).

The comment tonight about money running out in a matter of weeks is quite fascinating if accurate. I wonder if the BBC boy was fed this by a disgruntled McLelland.

    Hmmmmm

I think I get what you’re saying. I have been told that the early christians had practices that could be described as socialistic.

However I agree with Zbysek thatcommunism is incompatable with christianity or indeed any religion. Suspect I’m coming at it from a completely different angle though. I thoroughly dislike religion. (However Zbysek is a good poster and I wouldn’t put him down, never talked with him even on here but he seems sincere and a good man.)

Sometimes you get a hard time on here, but I see much of my younger self in some of your posts. Hope that doesnt come across as patronising.

I’VE SIMPLIFIED THIS FOR MWD BENEFIT…

What is the general consensus on the 8 month sentence given to Birrell today?

I’m a bit surprised to be honest.. on a number of levels – after the Lenny verdict, I suspect this was a bit of ‘balance’ being brought in to help appease Bishop of Paisley…

Doesn’t bother me if idiots with moronic views are locked up but I wonder where it stops? Are we safe referring to RFC fans as Huns?

Folk spout a load of Sh*te on a number of blogs/websites with various degrees of sophistication.

There are only 8000 places in Scottish Prison service – if every hun who posted vile anti-catholic sentiments was outed – I think we’d need 8000 more. To be honest if everybody on CQN who hurls abuse re Huns were tracked down ( I use the term freely – so that’s me too) even more would be required. CQN is the thinking Celtic fans website of choice – I can only imagine worse is posted elsewhere where there is less editorial self control.

As I said – happy to see this clown get his porridge but I wonder if it is sustainable?

Yup. We had money but would not match their spending with other people’s money.

Whilst I blame them for being reckless, I also blame the distribution all CL money to title winners for making the rewards for recklessness and the punishment for not being reckless a risk worth taking.

  20. Thanks Partizan for your kind words, I guess the fact I am religious and Catholic and Communist or at least socialist makes me a triffle weird I don’t know what buisness my popes think they have on commentating on politics why not they denounce capitalism or fascism this is far more important that a few priests who fell victim to flawed human nature. (that is their are good and bad in every walk of life, and only a numpty would discount their faith on the basis of a few rogue priests) Your name derives from yugoslavian resistance? Very good choice.

I believe in god. I believe in communion. If my pope wants to tell me about socialism then their must be some other form of Catholicism for me. I truly believe that or mabye the next pope will realize that is what saves us from capitalist evils the idea that every rich person deserves their wealth and should not have to pay a dime for the state that charity is the only way when so many don’t even follow religion any more. In the absence of religion can’t our leaders see that a Catholic socialist is far better than an atheist capitalist who has zero reason to give anything meaningful to charity?

The biggest surprise for me was the football banning order imposed. I really only read the stuff today but they have linked the comments to the ‘shame game'(!) to justify the banning order.

My concern is that this verdict is being used to justify the so called anti-sectarian legislation being worked on. There is no suggestion that this guy goes to the games or has caused trouble at a football match. Surely that’s the main reason for a banning order.

  23. Good night Patizan if you could leave an email. Ps where is petec when you need him? Yesterday he posted a great link however the alex jones stuff and reptillians is a turn of, I know its a modern fad but I prefer to believe in the oldfashioned left vs right with the left being right and right being wrong. I believe in simple and logical corrpution by money and arms deals causing many modern “wars” and not grand ideas that are implausible and hard to gain much support in the wider community. There are conspiracies out there, just I don’t think we are going to be ruled by a reptilian overlord…

We will we learn to stop caring what happens over in that midden.

    Who cares!

I have been thinking that myself. I have heard it said that our futures are intertwined, a sort of mutual need society. I dont think so, we can mange perfectly well without THEM. Although I do love beating THEM more than any other team.

I am watching, with interest what is unfolding at Mordor and asking myself a few questions.

Will the powers at be REALLY let THEM go bust?? I dont think so, dark forces will meet, deals will be done, and we wont know a thing about it.

    Just my humble opinion.

  25. Antifa,

I’m an athiest but not going to get into any religious debate on here. Just wanted to pass on that I’ve heard people link early christianity with socialistic outlooks. Not so sure myself, but maybe there are bits that fit.

I hesitate to call myself a communist, well a Trotskyist really, because I think you can only claim that if you are active to some degree at least. I was when I was much younger but havent done anything for years. I’ve got a lot of time for those who do though.

Your posts are growing on me, there’s an innocence in them that I find endearing and I genuinely don’t mind that to be patronising.

However, Catholicism and Communism can never go hand in hand, Communism does not recognise organised religion. Catholicism and Socialism, well that’s a different story entirely.
