Yesterday’s Scottish Cup final was head and shoulders above the insipid FA Cup final at Wembley. Newco scored two excellent goals, including one from our ex-play, Kenny Miller. But it was our current, on-loan, player, Anthony Stokes who decided the encounter.
What should we do with Anthony? His attitude yesterday was magnificent. He decided he was leaving Hampden with a winners medal, and he had the skill, strength and capacity to ensure no one could stop him.
For the first goal he collected on the wing, made a beeline for goal before slotting the ball into the far corner, although he was assisted by the most generous defending since Jersey in June 1940. [Can you believe two defenders stood off him?] Scoring with a header from a corner when your team is a goal down with 10 minutes remaining takes character and determination.
Brendan Rodgers would have been impressed, but it remains to be seen if that attitude can be tapped into day-in, day-out at Lennoxtown.
I watched Motherwell fans invade the Fir Park pitch the Premiership Play-off final last year. On that occasion their actions went beyond mere celebrations, fans were deep into opposition territory, taunting Newco fans behind the goal. To their credit, Newco fans took it on the chin and left the stadium without retaliating.
I can’t imagine what possesses fans of a losing team to invade a field already populated by thousands of celebrating fans. Whatever it is, it’s primitive and unlikely to be a considered reaction. As a result, Newco will be dragged into a disciplinary situation which would otherwise only have effected Hibernian.
What’s worse, the one perennial get out of jail card football clubs often use when fans let them down: “We always criticise and warn fans about this sort of thing”, was fatally undermined by a hasty press release in the minutes after the final whistle.
While every Hibernian person interviewed acknowledged the role of their fans and need for improvement, Newco issued an adversarial statement. Compliant friends in the media were urged to drop the role of their fans on the field. Adversarial statements create adversaries, football administrators know this. Getting strategy wrong isn’t worth a few hours PR.

Are we surprised that the “Record” is promulgating the Thems’ deluded statement, Anything to put pressure on the SFA to act, of course, in the “proper way” by sanctioing Hibs. The most deluded of them are calling for the result to be declared null and void, the cup withheld and Hibs place in Europe withdrawn.
I know that all clubs, including ours, have supporters suffering from severe delusions but this from them is seriously dangerous.
Even if they are fined for the flairs do you think that they will pay it. As for sectarian singing don’t you know that “we have asked them not to, but it is their culture and birthright after all””” or words to that effect.

Totally agree, no moral high ground here if any Celtic fan or one of my mates were taking liberties they would get turned on, nobody should go to the fitba and face any violence, if your team gets a doing deal with it, during 88/89 season we got turned over 5-1 & 4-1 at Ibrox the nearest to fighting was when any Celtic fan left the Broomloan Road stand…. Take your team getting beat it makes you appreciate the good times !

Not commented on the scenes following the final whistle at Hampden yesterday. Yes it was wrong of the Hibs Supporters to run on to the Pitch but I can understand why they did. They only had one thing in mind to celebrate having waited 114 years to win the Cup. What followed was the same that happened in 1980 the losing Team then played in red, white and blue, the same colours as yesterday, see the similarities !
I cannot condone anyone running on to a Pitch and assaulting another person regardless who you support. However, running on to a Pitch when your Team scored in injury time to win a Cup for the first time in 114 years and having been 2-1 down, with the adrenaline pumping I do not condone. Hand on Heart I think I would have been on the Pitch.
I will not comment directly on their statement. However, I will refer back to my reference to 1980, the red, white and blue and to yesterday ‘s Hibs opponents and the colours they played in, a common denominator eh. Said it before we know they died but to the outside world they haven’t, until we put them to the sword they will continue to bring shame on the football played in Scotland.
They are an embarrassment, they are skint, they are on their knees…time for them to be put out of their misery, time for us all to be put out of our misery. They are in the gutter let us push them down the the manhole (metaphorically speaking in case anyone things I am inciting violence).
But the establishment will not let them die for in their eyes Scottish Football needs them. I say we need them like a hole in the head.

I was always under the impression that our Board knew RD was going after we failed to qualify for the CL, the only reason he stayed to the end of the season was because the man they had lined up was not available until now (or after the Euros) Obviously I was wrong
It would seem our board were prepared to give RD more time (this is honourable and I have a degree of respect for our Board – I don’t agree with the strategy but I do respect it)
So the point is when did our Board decide RD’s time was up ?????

I’m happy to put it down to mistakes having been made and lessons having been learned. Dermot’s mistake was having his eye on the golf ball rather than the football. The phoenix canny rise from the ashes if it’s tail feathers haven’t been well and truly singed first. I’m happy to look to the future.
