Adversarial statements, what to do with Anthony?

695

Yesterday’s Scottish Cup final was head and shoulders above the insipid FA Cup final at Wembley. Newco scored two excellent goals, including one from our ex-play, Kenny Miller. But it was our current, on-loan, player, Anthony Stokes who decided the encounter.

What should we do with Anthony? His attitude yesterday was magnificent. He decided he was leaving Hampden with a winners medal, and he had the skill, strength and capacity to ensure no one could stop him.

For the first goal he collected on the wing, made a beeline for goal before slotting the ball into the far corner, although he was assisted by the most generous defending since Jersey in June 1940. [Can you believe two defenders stood off him?] Scoring with a header from a corner when your team is a goal down with 10 minutes remaining takes character and determination.

Brendan Rodgers would have been impressed, but it remains to be seen if that attitude can be tapped into day-in, day-out at Lennoxtown.

I watched Motherwell fans invade the Fir Park pitch the Premiership Play-off final last year. On that occasion their actions went beyond mere celebrations, fans were deep into opposition territory, taunting Newco fans behind the goal. To their credit, Newco fans took it on the chin and left the stadium without retaliating.

I can’t imagine what possesses fans of a losing team to invade a field already populated by thousands of celebrating fans. Whatever it is, it’s primitive and unlikely to be a considered reaction. As a result, Newco will be dragged into a disciplinary situation which would otherwise only have effected Hibernian.

What’s worse, the one perennial get out of jail card football clubs often use when fans let them down: “We always criticise and warn fans about this sort of thing”, was fatally undermined by a hasty press release in the minutes after the final whistle.

While every Hibernian person interviewed acknowledged the role of their fans and need for improvement, Newco issued an adversarial statement.  Compliant friends in the media were urged to drop the role of their fans on the field.  Adversarial statements create adversaries, football administrators know this.  Getting strategy wrong isn’t worth a few hours PR.

    Oops

Yes it sounds like something the Orange Order would write. Considering it made reference to Nicola Sturgeon the word constituency would have been more appropriate.

Two of the best CQN Magazine articles ever :) I am gutting myself at those fan comments from the other clubs.

As I said in my first piece today, if they could see themselves as other see them even they would have to take a long look in the mirror and say “I better get a grip.”

This has been one of the funniest days on social media for years, and although that release of theirs is deeply, deeply disturbing in many ways it’s also hilarious when you consider that didn’t come from Ibrox Noise or Vanguard Bears but from the club itself.

Warburton must be wondering just what the Hell he’s doing in that lunatic asylum.

  4. FACT!

    Pre-March 1994 Jabba’s arse(nal) was owned lock-stock-and-barrel by the Rhebel Group.

He was spoon-fed info on a regular basis (as were several others).

In return – he enjoyed; fees (non-taxable?), hospitality (food & drink), transportation (not just taxis) – in return for ‘supposed’ exclusives.

He was played like a ‘fly-fisherman’s’ bait – he was a journalistic whore and 20+ years later – he is still prostituting his wares.

A Kent of the lowest order!

Are we surprised that the “Record” is promulgating the Thems’ deluded statement, Anything to put pressure on the SFA to act, of course, in the “proper way” by sanctioing Hibs. The most deluded of them are calling for the result to be declared null and void, the cup withheld and Hibs place in Europe withdrawn.

    ———

Deluded to think the result will be overturned.

The European place is certainly not out of the imagination. There will be a HUGE concerted effort from the MSM for this in the days and weeks ahead.

They would have been banking on money from this. Would also have been an attraction to transfer targets.

I think 16 Roads (see page 10) hits hai on head.

Oldco absolutely HAD to qualify for Europe. They needed that money and that ‘promise’ of a future. They lost, was it to Maribor, and boom! They could not afford to continue. Death ensued.

Newco probably absolutely HAD to qualify for Europe, not just for the direct income but for a season book frenzy and probably a rights issue as well. That’s all up in the air now. King will need to stump up to show the bears there’s still a future…and what if he can’t?

If I were a hun, and I thank my God daily that I am not, I would be very afraid of the immediate future.

I don’t think you or TET are disagreeing with me unless you believe that, in those circumstances, RD would not still be sacked and replaced. It seems to be just which day he would be sacked that we are disagreeing about.

primrose ure and the new manager now started tae recruit among the ranks of goat shaggin and tangerine ludges, not just players but fans, business associates, tradesmen, clerks, accountants, policemen, judicial officers of the court and most importantly the media who would champion the cause of the new establishment club, quietly in some places but very vocally from the stands and terracing. This quickly allowed them to have amazing success.

Scotland is a lovely country with a lot of nice people living there but that satanic stain on it is a karma that will haunt the place until it’s extinguished.

Any co-incidence that this is a similar description of the brave men who fought and died at the Somme, the 100th anniversary of which is almost upon us. . … i.e Scottish, Irish and Welsh canon fodder.

I don’t think I can look any Rangers supporter in the eye any more. I don’t think I can function normally tomorrow and I may need to seek out non Rangers supporters to share a room and spontaneous periodic laughter.

    It’s unbelievable it really is.

Someone pointed ou before that Rangers use Masonic distress signals in their press releases. This was laced with Masonic imagery and designed to appeal to the worst elements of their support. Hibs supporters going over the top as though it was the trenches, Nicola Sturgeons parish etc. I’m surprised it wasn’t accompanied by a painting of Struth touching his Masonic ring with a finger pointing at the goat of justice or some such. It is truly incredible.
