Age of the Bampots, McPake and cover for Victor

1008

James McPake’s absence tomorrow will be a blow to Hibs and a significant boost to Celtic.  Hibs are short on cover in all areas and McPake, their captain, is an instrumental component in their defence.  Celtic are without the suspended Victor Wanyama but they are far better provisioned all over the field, especially in central midfield.

Do you remember the good old days when a football club would be able to spin a load of old tosh to the media, who would report to an incredulous public?  This is far more difficult in the multi-channel internet age.

The BBC yesterday reported the headline “Former chief executive Charles Green is cleared of having close links with former Rangers owner Craig Whyte”, although the article itself proclaims a less ambitious “will be cleared”.

All fine and good, but I scoured several articles on this subject for mention as to whether or not the Rangers International internal investigation considered evidence from both sides – the key fact in this story, but one which was missing from reports.  Fortunately an Internet Bampot stepped in to help all those in the media.  I’m away to check all the updated reports reflecting the new information……

Willie Wallace will be signing copies of his autobiography from 2pm until 4pm at Waterstones on Sauchiehall St.  Get your Cup Final weekend off to a Lisbon Anniversary start!

Nothing will ever change the mentality of the mob who follow them.

    ……………………

That too can change but only through seismic changes in Scottish society.

Not in the next few years.

  5. I’m in London visiting my daughters. Not got a ticket for CL final but saw cracking 5 a side at the Champions Festival park with Zidane presenting the medals. Looked fit enough to sign for us.

Plenty of Glasgow references in the UEFA museum with the biggest crowd ever at Hampden in 1960 with that game being highest scoring final. ( I was there to see every goal)

On the wall was framed print of Celtic goalie who Im pretty sure is John Fallon thwarting Eusebio as he slides in. Bobby Murdoch, Big Billy and John Clarke are anxious onlookers. Will upload later.

A locker for every year is on show and when you open 1967 there is Billy McNeil holding the cup aloft in that iconic picture.

On the way out, in order of qualfying stages reached this year were the signed captains’ jerseys with Scott Brown’s hoops proudly on display. First time I’ve seen a jersey with attitude. It was’nt quite doing the Broonie but it had an air about it.

Back at flat knackered but looking forward to the two finals tonight and tomorrow.

  8. Nobody told you before. Legia Warsaw are Cup winners and the Champions today.

Celtic can meet Legia in fourth round of the CL qualifications, not earlier when both teams will be seaded.

    Come on Borussia Dortmund.

Can’t find even one reason for my support for Bayern.

Borussia were founded for the immigrants in Germany, mainly the Poles who traveled for work reasons.

Now they have three Polish players in first squad.

Gents… anybody know or can find out what is the longest run of winning every trophy in Scotland – I mean league, Scottish Cup and League Cup… it can’t be many surely… mibby 5 or 7 or even 9. It would be good to find out and then beat – it would be a RELAVENT record that we could add to all our feats and one which the tribute act followers could be told to GIRFU them…. any thoughts gents?

I’m in a very happy mood. I got my dates wrong and had a upgrade to my production system this weekend, my Hibs staff said “that’s the cup final weekend!!”

Well two things I found out since (a) didn’t realise that I had so many friends with a final ticket up for grabs (b) how quick Hibs fans can work to get the job done quickly.

I happy because the job was done in record time so me and my hibee staff are off to the game tomorrow :-)

  18. eldiegobhoy

totally agree with you on that..i also think that daily has put his life on the line and his family too but i’m sure somewhere in his head there will be a logical answer to this strange move although other than money i cant think what that is..they also must be sure of themselves playing football somewhere which disturbs me nearly as much. i hope dormund win tonight as a few of they’re fans used frequent mcneills pub over the years since our meetings when murdo played for them..great guys and great fans with a strong connection with our support…c’mon the BVB

  19. Zbyszek, like you I’m rooting for Dortmund, the poorer underdogs, the team of Germany’s much maligned Turkish minority, the team which lit up the CL this year right from the start. I said on this very website when they first beat Madrid in the group stage: put your money on Dortmund.

  20. Paul67 et al

Had Dortmund to beat Juventus back in 1997, but have Bayern to win this evening. Later on, I have Kessler to beat Froch in 10, 11, or 12 rounds. All in bet at 14-1. Not that I do not rate Froch, but was not impressed with his language leading up to the fight, so Kessler for me.

  21. 67Heaven ... I am Neil Lennon..!!.. Ibrox belongs to the creditors on

I have a feeling Dortmund will prevail tonight……

  22. Re. Robert Lewandowski. I’m just watching discussion in the studio and from the sound of his agent I can guess that Robert will stay in Dortmund , or will go to Bayern Munich after this season.

You would hardly meet nicest guy than Lewandowski is. His early life was far from sweet. Poor family with no father who died early. Similar with Blaszczykowski who grew up with no mother and father.

Both are very religious men. They work for foundations, visit children’s hospitals.

Legia reliesed Lewandowski for two reason:

1.He was one of many average young players.

    2. The doctors told that his bones and muscles were very weak, not for the guy who wanted to do sport.

  23. !!Bada Bing!!

From earlier. Surprised that there is no big screen event in London, Trafalgar Square would have been ideal. Especially when you think of their success at the World Cup in Germany in 2006 and at the Swiss-Austrian Euros in 2008. Maybe too many Chelsea fans down that way.

    Supports?

He played for Legia Warsaw and moved from here to Glasgow. When he is here and we play the game he is at the stadium. He wants to end up his career at Legia.

Supporting B. Dortmund – my cousin has been a season ticket holder for approximately 20 years (Hoops man that married a German Girl).

Quick Seville tale – night before the final we go to one of the bars in the little forts on the river. We are sitting talking and out of the corner of my eye I spot 2 Bhoys in hoops wearing kilts – they walk towards us and one of them says: ‘your my cousin aren’t you?’

I looked at him – hadn’t seen him in 8 years. He and his pal had hitch-hiked from Dortmund to Seville (without tickets) complete with tent – just to be there. Strange that we bumped into them on 3 occasions over the next 2 days. Seen him only once in the past 10 years – bumped into him when he was on a trip home – getting his photos taken in front of the Jock Stein statue at Celtic Park.

I am certain he will be there and hope he gets a double this weekend – BVB & CFC on the cups!
