Age of the Bampots, McPake and cover for Victor

1008

James McPake’s absence tomorrow will be a blow to Hibs and a significant boost to Celtic.  Hibs are short on cover in all areas and McPake, their captain, is an instrumental component in their defence.  Celtic are without the suspended Victor Wanyama but they are far better provisioned all over the field, especially in central midfield.

Do you remember the good old days when a football club would be able to spin a load of old tosh to the media, who would report to an incredulous public?  This is far more difficult in the multi-channel internet age.

The BBC yesterday reported the headline “Former chief executive Charles Green is cleared of having close links with former Rangers owner Craig Whyte”, although the article itself proclaims a less ambitious “will be cleared”.

All fine and good, but I scoured several articles on this subject for mention as to whether or not the Rangers International internal investigation considered evidence from both sides – the key fact in this story, but one which was missing from reports.  Fortunately an Internet Bampot stepped in to help all those in the media.  I’m away to check all the updated reports reflecting the new information……

Willie Wallace will be signing copies of his autobiography from 2pm until 4pm at Waterstones on Sauchiehall St.  Get your Cup Final weekend off to a Lisbon Anniversary start!

  1. Enjoy you night Bhoys and Ghirls. The eldest is nervously bringing his ‘bird fae yooni’ tonight and I’m on bbq duty. However they’ll all have to wait until my scarf, which it out on the line, is dry for tomorrow…

    Hail Hail

  2. 46 yrs ago I was eight and the conversation went, see dad they’re the best team in Europe, now can we please stop going to cappielow park, I want to see the Celtic.

We started going the flowing season with the Knights of St Columba bus running from the midhill boxing club in Greenock…… Aaaah memories.

  3. Hampden means singing in the dust (or rain), the cup final has meant Celtic fans with black faces, from the dry sand black cloud that came up when Celtic scored.

  4. Still wish we do a walk out protest if we lift the cup, they’re corrupt and it’s an opportunity to communicate that to the watching media outside Scotland.

    Absolutely brilliant!

That’s why people want to make movies about us!

More than a club -sometimes becomes a cliche – but that is what we are!

More than a family as someone said once – more like a movement!

Will be there tomorrow -first time I’ve had a cup final ticket since we lost to the now died Huns when Rod Wallace scored after a deflected clearance-not that I’m bitter!

    Again thanks for posting !

I watched the game with my Da and a couple of mates, I was 13 at the time, and for all we attacked them, the ball just wouldn’t go in.

I was getting worried, but my Da kept saying it would be Ok and the better team would win.

I remember the tears that night as if it was yesterday.

I am ticketless for tomorrow , first SCF I will have missed since Jelly Tot Joe buried the Orcs. I am gutted but will live with it ….`mon the Hoops!

Loved it , reading the blog and watching the videos posted ( as well as meeting Willie Wallace this afternoon) makes me feel that if anything the significance of that early evening all those years ago has increased with the passing of time.

In a pub called the Rob Roy and a fella just bought a round for £23.10-thankfully he didnae pay wi two twenties as I wouldnae have been pleased to hear the barman announcing his change…

London so far has been chocker wi Germans, most of whom speak better English than I do.

However, none of them can spell Munich …..

  13. Danso, brilliant.

And we did it without cheating or rioting and fans attacking the opposition players during the game.

I know – you haven’t lived unless you were on a mates shoulders high in the Hampden Celtic end, surrounded by thousands of ecstatic Tims.

  15. Seen this on twitter and was astounded that someone could write this sectarian racist nonsense.

@pezderby: @ChrisGraham76 truth be told I am upset at Daly signing. I’m upset when any Catholic signs for rangers/The rangers. Let alone an irish one.

  16. googybhoy ♥ Celtic

That’s the cherry oan their cake after their “magic” season under Sally…

Daly is not a young lad beginning a career in football. He has made his bed in the knowledge of what lies ahead.

Enjoy the game, being made aware and conscious of ticketless Celtic fans.

You too bourne. Tomorrow like all Celtic games I’m very aware that I’m lucky to be there as a representative of those gone and those who cannot be there.

    Celtic Family.

  19. Another brilliant day with Willie Wallace. Fantastic stories over lunch with Willie, Paul and BRT&H and I am sure that the latter will one day be able to write about these stories, never told before. To sit and listen on 25th May of all days to these – truly an honour.

As has been posted – we borrowed a Big Cup from The Admiral in Waterloo Street and walked from there up to Sauchiehall Street – it was easy to see which team the passers by supported.

We have the European Cup replica again on Monday where Willie will be signing at East Kilbride Waterstones (12-2pm) then Falkirk Waterstones (3.30 to 5.30pm) so come and get your picture taken with Willie and the Big Cup.

Thanks to all who came along today, despite the lovely weather outside.

  20. Winning Captains, sounds like a great day out, spent with the European Cup and a Lisbon Lion on the 46th Anniversary of the triumph! Wow.

Not that I’m jealous, okay just a helluva lot jealous!

Looking forward to watching the game tonight in the company of some of the Good Ghuys.

    Happy Anniversary Bhoys and Ghirls.

  21. Listening to sportsound this afternoon and the so called experts were picking their SPL 11 for the season. Deary me, they are clueless. Three Celtic players, and one of them, Mulgrew in a position he’s only played on a few occasions this season.

    They chose

    Randolph

    McKay Hutchinson Mulgrew Hammell

    Shinnie Wanyama Ledley McGinn

    Higdon Griffiths

  22. Only six European clubs have won a domestic double AND the Big Cup in the same season.

No surprises who the first one was!

Celtic 1966–67 Scottish Football League, Scottish Cup, European Cup

Ajax 1971–72 Eredivisie, KNVB Cup, European Cup

PSV Eindhoven 1987–88 Eredivisie, KNVB Cup, European Cup

Manchester United 1998–99 Premier League, FA Cup, UEFA Champions League

Barcelona 2008–09 La Liga, Copa del Rey, UEFA Champions League

Internazionale 2009–10 Serie A, Coppa Italia, UEFA Champions League

Celtic -of course – won another two trophies that season!
