Ajer and Simunovic should start in Valencia

192

With Scott Brown suspended for Sunday’s game against Motherwell, I would play Olivier Ntcham in Valencia on Thursday.  Olivier was due to return to the substitute’s bench last week, but succumbed to illness shortly before kick-off.  He has not played since December, so will be short of match fitness, but an hour in the Mestalla will prep him for Motherwell.

With Filip Benkovic injured, Dedryck Boyata is our best central defender, but neither of them will be at the club when the Champions League qualifiers take place in July.  Kristoffer Ajer and Jozo Simunovic will both be here.  For that reason, they should start against Valencia.

You, me, Brendan and Peter all know we need central defensive reinforcements for the qualifiers, but knowing that and meeting the challenge are two different things.  Ajer and Simunovic should be given every opportunity to develop their game at this level, as well as their mutual understanding.  We have nothing to gain from developing Dedryck’s understanding of European football.

    I mentioned yesterday that there is clear vision of an object flying past and narrowly missing Boyata shortly after the game.

    Doubt that it came from a Tim .

    “Killie are without suspended defender Kirk Broadfoot and injured full-back Ross Millen but are hopeful centre-half Stuart Findlay will be fit”.

    Just watched big Kristoff our future captain in my opinion on

    his attitude regarding that bad tackle on Broonie by eggface

    He ran from his own half to confront the twat and Madden, and

    Lucky and blessed that I have yet another holiday coming up next week, off to Gran Canaria and missing the games against Hearts and Hibs. Tried Celtic Bars but couldn’t see anything convenient for my location (San Agustin, just outside Playa del Ingles) so if anyone has the inside info I’ll look out for recommendations.

    BBC reporting that the SFA is willing to look at introducing foreign referees into Scotland.

    I would favour this for multiple reasons.

    1 just to expand the pool and reduce the frequency that one person will officiate the few top teams in Scotland

    2 introducing referees with a non-Scottish view of “tackling” would, perhaps, begin to bring our game more into line with what is allowable in Europe. How many times do we hear “he wouldn’t have got away with that in Europe”?

    3 allow our referees to experience how the game is played outside Scotland

    4 for other reasons that I won’t go into on this fine morning (copyright Glen Hansard)

  22. Good Morning… Chilled and Chillin’ in the Chilterns this morning…

    Yes, think I got to agree with the good fholk that are disappointed in lead article… two reasons.

    If we you are reading this article from a connected Celtic FC supporter and then contrast it with the fighting spirit of newbhoy Timo… who approaches football the Glasgow Celtic way!?

    For me Valencia is a must win.

    I’m going to contradict myself from last week,l I stated my firm belief that Celtic must stick with and get better at, the GK – sweeper tactic.

    While that still remains my belief, what about going with Craig in for this game? His shot stopping ability, experience and presence will add to our defensive abilities. Can’t see us playing too many passes round our box in the Mestalla.

    It may give us the freshen up and impetus we need to put on a show in Valencia…

    The second reason for the disappoint with the article is about three weeks ago as we were approaching the end of the transfer window we were told that the defence would not be strengthened, beyond a possible short term fullback loan, the talented Mr Toljan as it happened.

    Yet we were told, the defence would be sorted in June for the UCL qualifiers, I detect a change in tone… hope this doesn’t lead to a change in tune!!

    Hail Hail

  24. One or two points before deparing for the golf:

    1) Stewart Robertson ( Sevco) complained that Sportscene devoted a lot of time to Morelos incidents in the game against us but nothing on other `events`. To me, that was a bit like complaining that they showed all our goals in the 5-0 victory but didn`t show any of their goals;

    2) Sorry Alasdai but at least you know you have gained a few County `supporters` on here;

    3) SFTB from last night. Brilliant and, oh the joy were the same thing to happen to Morelos!

    4) bada ! I liked this : ` the Ewe Camp`. Is that of your own making?

    I watched a game in a pub in a run down shopping precinct in Ingles in 2013. Probably 10 mins in taxi from Augustin(i was in Feliz). I had a quick look on Google maps and it looks like the area has picked up a lot(no-one staying there at all back then and most irish pubs were shut down). The pub is not coming up on google but 250m south of Mulligans pub and at the tail end of the shops. Mulligans wouldn’t show the game in 2013 but times may have changed.
