Alan Muir, what a performance, FAC, Nadir

394

There was no vandalism, pitch invasions or general misbehaviour at Fir Park on Saturday.  What we had instead was Motherwell and Celtic fans engaged in a collective protest against the Offensive behaviour’ Act.

Fans Against Criminalisation put the issue plainly:

“Every single mainstream opposition party in Scotland opposes this Act, as do many notable lawyers, sheriffs, political commentators and Celtic Football Club.

“We call on the Scottish Government to accept that this legislation has achieved nothing other than to criminalise ordinary football fans and to repeal it as a matter of urgency.

“The Scottish Government cannot reasonably expect football fans to meekly accept the harassment they face nor the attacks on their rights to freedom of speech.”

Delighted to see Nadir Ciftci grab a poacher’s goal on Saturday.  This is the kind of goal he should be scoring lots of.  Hopefully it’ll become a more regular occurrence.

Well done to referee Alan Muir for an outstanding performance on Saturday.  It takes a lot to turn in that kind of performance, don’t think it’s easy.  Put yourself in his shoes (with Motherwell facing different opponents, obviously).

Think of the pressure you would be under to give one or both of those penalties.  It can’t be easy to have watched Kieran Kennedy take the legs from Scott Brown, then dive to save the ball with his hand, and tell everyone that no offense took place.  Don’t underestimate how hard that was for Alan Muir.

  1. I see Phil; is having a go at the cabal, a rare sight these days, we really need more.

Pity that when journos have the floor, have the loud speaker, have the info, they then back of, isn’t that right Alex Thompson, who got to you ?

  2. We had the SFA and referees on the run 5 years ago but didn’t blow the establishment apart the way we should have. We highlighted the cheating they threw the toys out of the pram and went on strike. We got a couple of casualties thrown our way and backed off thinking things would change.

We have start again and let the new breed know cheating or incompetence will be punished.

The biggest mistake last time was letting Dallas take his cushy job with UEFA.

Oh for a NL figure to get behind at a time like this.

    Starry,

Yeah, a bit like the introduction of the playoffs but that contingency plan didn’t quite work out.

I wonder how the fait accompli will be presented this time given the tales of woe and armaggedon we’ve already endured. My guess would be a close season switcheroo with a new improved TV deal to buy the votes.

Then again, someone might just turn up at ibrox with the cash they need to avoid going under. :-)

  4. As Gavin Hastings said about thon referee @ ole Twickers yesterday, Muir should never again be allowed to ref a match. Disgrace doesn’t even begin to describe his performance. Matched only in recent years with Collum’s giving the deid team a penalty when he was looking in the other direction.

  5. The Huns will not be liquidated any time soon.Admin,on the other hand is a lurking possibility.A lot will depend on Chuckles verdict for legal fees.People saying would they still win the league with a 15-25 point deduction,as if this would be the only outcome of Admin. If they ever went into admin again,it would be nothing like the last time. With the scandal ongoing at present, the next company of administrators would, you could put your mortgage on it,conduct the business properly.Players would be released, staff would be cut,and all manner of cuts would be made,as happened with Dundee,Motherwell, etc. We all know this is what should have happened last time, and we all know now why it did not.

I do not think they would win their league with a points deduction and a weaker playing pool.

I don`t reckon Celtic backed away from SFA and the much trumpeted ( by PL and JR) SFA reform in 2010. I think that they realised that it was extremely poor timing to demand openness and accountability just as their historic business partners were about to go bankrupt. That was the real reason for the removal of Peat and Smith and Gold. They were not up to the job. Ogilvie, Reagan and Doncaster were brought in to see the Scottish game over this turmoil. Longmuir had to fall on his sword due to the need for one single body to ensure that it will not happen again. I don’t mean the huns holding company going bust yet again either. That is as sure to happen as is their singular ability to phoenix as the same yet again. The precedent has been set. A new league set up favoured by the Old Firm and any club who is prepared to sacrifice sporting integrity for the promise of more funding is what we will see and within 7 months.

Paul67 and Dermot Desmond are right. Sevco are finished. Police Scotland are presently tidying matters up for Sir David Murray. The end of a sordid chapter will be closed for him upon the conviction of any of the spivs. That is all that we are witnessing here. Once they are invited into the new league setup and all the cronies are on message then it will indeed take ten years of rebuilding and complete faith by the Scottish football public for the SPL (i.e the Old Firm) to be able to reposition themselves.

The Old Firm Uriah Heeps amonst our midsts will lap up the ..best club in the world, fiercest rivalry crap and play EPL prices for it. I am pretty confident that Rangers’s next SPL title will be the one after our ten in a row. Alan Muir, Campbell Ogilvie, BBC Scotland, The Daily Records, will ensure that their is a core of defiant , nobody is gonnae cheat us ….dumbass perfectly balanced timalloys with chips on both shoulders . That no EPL invite will ever come and that Dermot Desmond is still the main shareholder having attracted no further investment.

  10. Normally most people in the working world know that the first thing to do when wronged is to follow the chain of command and to ask why? Maybe even a second wronging would seem to follow the same path, but when this does not bear fruit we should go about things in a different manner.

I think now is the time to bypass the chain of command club included (that is if they are sitting on their hands) and g directly to FIFA about the referees and point out the injustices. Someone mentioned the other day about compiling a library of decisions that are blatantly biased when it comes to the MIB in the SPFL. It may be a good time to this route as the game on the world stage is definitely needing a cleaning up from the top down

Rangers won’t go into Administration 2. Blue sea of Ibrox just won the 4.10 at Pontefract 20/1. GSL had his children inheritance on it.

  14. The Battered Bunnet on

The Sevco Situ is so complex that Administration serves only to protect the interests of creditors and claimants. It does nothing to address the myriad inherent problems themselves. It simply puts a backstop on the losses while the bigger legal issues are sorted out, criminal and civil.

No one I’ve asked has been able to conceive of a feasible way of escape for TRFC and RIFC from its predicament. That’s not to say one doesn’t exist, it just hasn’t been invented yet.

Neither should there be. This is, after all, a football club that a High Court Indictment alleges was formed for the maintenance of appearances, a front for a spectacular multi-million pound fraud.

Once the criminal cases are concluded, the civil cases will commence. It’ll be late Julember TwentyPlenty by the time the issues have been clarified, sorted and resolved. In the meantime, RIFC needs to find external funds to support TRFC’s cash flow deficit of around £10M per year, while material uncertainty exists as to whether it has any legal claim on the assets on its balance sheet, circumstances no investor or lender can touch.

That’s £10M per year for an indefinite period of time at the end of which, in the best case scenario, let’s you hold on to a loss-making company for which there exists no sustainable business model, that doesn’t own its own brand or its own retail business, and which is insolvent.

We’re in the realms of fantasy.

    If you say so.

It’s the cynic in me that questions why the biggest sporting scandal in brit history, a scandal that has everything, it has things to capture everyone’s attention for some time, the cheating, lying, stealing, corruption, porn, you name it, ‘IT’ goes from the very top to the very bottom, why has no journo exposed it ?

The biggest scoop a journo could possibly dream of, and to cap it all, some msm journos already have the inside track, why not go for it, unless you have been told not to.

I see absence still makes your heart grow fonder, I take it, you saw the SFA in darkest Lanarkshire?

Your recurring blame the board when we’re losing, blame the board when we’re winning, then blame the board when they died but didn’t, because ‘we’ somehow resuscitated them’ remains fantasy.

I don’t believe it * Victor Meldrew voice – if you must *

    The story is still unfolding,

The doomsday scenario and the reference to ‘old firm’ doesn’t include me, or my like, I find it offensive to suggest, any Celtic fan is waiting to get back into bed with them, or whatever their manifestation.

I think you exaggerate ‘Old Firm Uriah Heeps’ their number is minimal, on the Celtic side, and might even be limited to ‘full board members’ though you should relabel them as ‘Uber Celts’ whom neither you, or anybody else will stop them going to see ‘the Celtic’ – what ever the price.

I’m always waiting on how best you suggest we continue support Celtic

Only if unlike the last time those in charge of Administration conduct themselves above reproach.
