Alert on the left, the gravy in Ronny’s pie

761

I’m largely ignoring the defensive lapses of last night. There will be at least two changes for the Champions League, and everyone will be far more attentive. It was, though, a concern that both Kilmarnock goals came as a result of Celtic’s left-hand-side being breached.

Malmo’s Age Hareide will have noted this, and whatever attacking resources he deploys next week are likely to try to exploit a perceived weakness. Ronny will have a choice: Izzie or Charlie? My money’s on the latter.

Tom Rogic didn’t have the perfect game but it was good to see him take so much responsibility. He’s looked like the office junior of the Celtic midfield on previous outings, as did Nir Bitton for most of his early games. If Rogic has genuine talent, we need to let him find his feet in games like these.

Ronny Deila answered all questions after the game but gave little away. I hope his dismissal of injury worries was accurate. Kris Commons is the gravy in his pie. We are capable of beating anyone without Kris, but we need him doing his thing if we are to take a comfortable victory to Sweden.

Yesterday I was looking over Celtic’s form in November 2006 after doing an interview for a French magazine, who are writing a piece on Shunsuke Nakamura. That was the month Naka scored the goal which sent us top of the group and into the knock-out rounds of the Champions League for the first time – with a game to spare, no less.

It’s less well remembered that earlier that month we went out of the League Cup after losing at home to Falkirk on penalties, or that we couldn’t win at Easter Road immediately after the Champions League win.

Indifferent performances and results surround some of our greatest European performances. Getting it right when it counts is what matters.

Liam didn’t excel at Rosenberg,I don’t think he should ever have been sent there. When Celtic went down to ten men against Inverness ,don’t you think Liam would have been a better bet to come on than Tonev.

  2. Dallas Dallas where the heck is Dallas on

Leftclicktic, sky sevco news not reporting on their yellow ticker the potential transfer of Scott Allan to us . Their usual transfer sources must be stuck in England or in their kips.

Jim red , white and blue’s coupon will be a Picture tomorrow if this deal goes through.

  3. Me, Im Glad we are giving one of our BHOYS a chance at competitive hard as nails fighting football, it reminds me of sending our best prospects out to junior teams, if they can survive the battles they can develop their skills.

The game against killi showed me we have a few who don’t understand Scottish refereeing, Ronny is the most ignorant learner, I think that game educated him the most in his tenure so far.

Three players subbed/injured potentially three players crocked for weeks and not a single booking.

The bhoy Henderson is not going to get a game every week, we all know that, like McGregor wasn’t going to get a game every week until he made his name in a hard fighting league.

Henderson will be a Celtic captain but he will need to show commitment and steel.

The bhoy has the skill and the bite but currently there are too many profit margins.

We are governed by austerity disciples, who insist only their doctrine is bankrupt proof :oD))

Yet, here we are still giving credence to the same level of governance that told the old rangers supporters to believe in righteous governance, know your place pleb.

Henderson will be a Celtic captain because of this not in spite of this, just IMEO of course.

In My Expert Opinion, innit even.

I suggested the signing of Allan back in October, so I’m not going to change my mind, welcome to Celtic Scott.

Ronny has identified a lack of flair, killer pass, I expect him to be high up on the assists chart. L

    ===================

I have not seen much of Allan but what I remember was well weighted and angled passes and comfortable on the ball.

    My kind of player.

    Good post.

Liam Henderson is only 19 and fell behind Rogic and McGregor in getting game time, and some fans need perspective on the meaning of ‘loan’.

Didn’t realise until today that there were so many CQN’rs with so much more knowledge of Liam Henderson they must go to all the development games, or are they basing their opinion on Liam as the same as we’ve all seen in the first team?, which is next to nothing – according to some you would think he’s Messi.

Quite sad that some Celtic fans can’t see the wood for the trees, and fail to get behind the club when we judge a signing, mind you it’s the same ole monikers.

  6. We live in interesting times – looks like we could have the backbone of the national team for years to come.

  7. Was reading this on my phone, but had to fire up the PC and add a contribution to the Liam Henderson love-in. Of all the youth players to have come through in the last 5-6 years, Watt and Henderson have looked head and shoulders above everyone else for me.

Liam Henderson is everything the lads have been posting on here earlier – prototype modern midfielder, passes well, good athlete, bit of dig, can play further forward (like against Inter) as well as in the holding role, potential future captain, good height, good engine, strong in the tackle etc etc.

The other thing that I have always thought about Henderson is (a bit like a poor man’s Wanyama) he is the type of player who would be in demand in any league. Guys like him (who are the finished article) tend to attract attention from all over Europe – basically a quality holding midfielder is a player that coaches everywhere love to have. If he could kick on in terms of development – then I really believe we may have been looking at an asset who could be sold for serious money.

Instead, we appear to have replaced him in the squad with a 5 foot 9, 5-a-side player, who likes to show a bit of skill on the ball, but has little end product. A player who goes missing in important games, and who 3rd division Wigan (by their own players’ admission) simply marked out of the game a couple of months ago. A player who was clearly out boozing with the huns players recently (nothing wrong with that in isolation) but reportedly was doing so very shortly before the season opener when his club had to face said Huns.

I know I like a different kind of player to many on here, and Celtic fans often love a guy with ‘flair’…but Henderson for this guy? Can anybody realistically see a club in one of the top leagues coming in and offering big cash for Allan in the future, even if we develop him, and he improves under our coaching? I can’t.

  8. Mullet and Co 2

10 million for the bigot pound with a 50 50 chance of success or a free run at the Champions League every year?

-> Could not have put it better myself.

  9. Mullet..,

Celtic have given up remuneration to ensure sevco are shown on TV, every club in Scotland have lost money to pay for upgrading of stadiums that will never be shown on TV again, so WTF are you talking about ?

My money as a shareholder and my premium has directly been invested by the Celtic board and the SFA/SPFL into sevco matches to make them more attractive and as such an important component to Scottish football far above their relevant status. So here goes, why are the club I pay for, spending my money on a hyped up club, me and most of the current season ticket holders who have paid to do without ? Being sublime tied with our money ?

  10. Lennon n Mc....Mjallby on

If thon club n company that huns support were supposed to be buying Allen then I’m just wondering why we,the champions and going for the CL want him?

Nothing against the BHOY (hehe) I just thought we’d be targetting players with a bit of European pedigree, anyhoo,he’s one of us noo and what a buzz to see the permanently ragin’ ….eh……ragin’! Hahaha

btw is the bhoy a relation of former Scotland physio Johnny Allan fae Killie?

Who is at the front of the bus now ya bunch of nannygoats……Hail Hail………

  13. Now I think that Henderson can become a Celtic player. What I dont understand is the “Myth status”he has aquired on here. How many games has the boy played?.Has anyone really seen the boy enough to make the judgements some are making?.He did not set the plkace alight at Rosenberg, where his faults were picked up by the manager. At Hibs he will be in a league where he will be able to hone his better points week in week out.If he performs. Can only be good for the boy,and Celtic.

Tony Watt is another getting the “Myth”treatment. He lost his way with us.I hope he prospers and finds success,it was not going to happen with us.His fault,no one elses.

  14. Having had more endorsements tonight than I have on my driving licence – I’m off to bed…………….

got an important high-profile ‘head-to-head’ rendezvous with the ‘think-tank Bhoys’ tomorrow in the B.V. :-)

    Good night & KTF!

  15. Scott is a brave young man, if he has signed – Ronny seems intent on cutting numbers from Lenny’s regimention

    Lustig

    VVD(not for long)

    Izzy(?)

    Broonie

    Ronny’s lot

    Gordon

    Bailly

    Janko

    Boyata

    Stefan

    GMS

    Armstrong

    Cifti

    Scepovic

    Allan

That’s 26 with probably at least three out the door – 26 is the kind of number that Ronny hinted at six months ago.

So I think that we will see three more coming in – left-back, centre-back and striker.

There we are 26 – nice and tidy and a majority NEW Ronny squad – quick work in just over a year – he is his own man – no one can doubt that now – can they?

  20. The Ghood will prevail on

It would appear the Daily Record’s campaign to unsettle Scott Allan at Hibs has worked… well, half-worked anyway!

  21. Lennon and Mc…,

    Can I answer that ?

    Because that’s how

    There’s yer answer

The new BHOY can kick a baw, no comparing him to any other BHOYS that can kick a baw but it appears my club agree with ME, so I’ll start again, at the start of this transfer window this discussion started.

Is Scott Allen good enough for the Celtic.

My opinion from my limited exposure (two games I seen him play against us) I think aye, good pass I never spotted, BHOYS got vision, I’d rather he shone than shadowed, he will only shine with the ghood ghuys :)

Henderson, I’m thinking, future Bertie auld, you might no, that’s your limit no mine or the new BHOYS, bhoy needs to learn to captain better than Broonie, assasination is best served cold and out of the sight of cameras and officials but still needs to be done in plain view :) only very intelligent captains walk away from executions :) I think the bhoy Henderson can learn that, best place to start being invisible is in the mix (micks:)

  22. Planned on being in my 4 poster by now.

Surprised at Scott Allen signing due to the numbers we have in midfield already , however , he seems comfortable with the ball at his feet so I’ll trust Ronny with this one.

His allegiance with a club formerly trading as

Rangers has no significance apart from a get it right up ye to their drum beaters in the media and those stuck in a previous century.

Like others I see a player in Liam

    Henderson.

A full season with Hibs chasing a title including games against thems could be the making of him. I hope so.

Meanwhile , experienced competition is required at left back and a mobile striker.

Not much to ask for ?

Smile tomorrow. I remember 1989. HH.

Keep up the good investigative journalism. Alien concept here in Scotland.

Hope Ronny gets all his wishes!
