Alert on the left, the gravy in Ronny’s pie

761

I’m largely ignoring the defensive lapses of last night. There will be at least two changes for the Champions League, and everyone will be far more attentive. It was, though, a concern that both Kilmarnock goals came as a result of Celtic’s left-hand-side being breached.

Malmo’s Age Hareide will have noted this, and whatever attacking resources he deploys next week are likely to try to exploit a perceived weakness. Ronny will have a choice: Izzie or Charlie? My money’s on the latter.

Tom Rogic didn’t have the perfect game but it was good to see him take so much responsibility. He’s looked like the office junior of the Celtic midfield on previous outings, as did Nir Bitton for most of his early games. If Rogic has genuine talent, we need to let him find his feet in games like these.

Ronny Deila answered all questions after the game but gave little away. I hope his dismissal of injury worries was accurate. Kris Commons is the gravy in his pie. We are capable of beating anyone without Kris, but we need him doing his thing if we are to take a comfortable victory to Sweden.

Yesterday I was looking over Celtic’s form in November 2006 after doing an interview for a French magazine, who are writing a piece on Shunsuke Nakamura. That was the month Naka scored the goal which sent us top of the group and into the knock-out rounds of the Champions League for the first time – with a game to spare, no less.

It’s less well remembered that earlier that month we went out of the League Cup after losing at home to Falkirk on penalties, or that we couldn’t win at Easter Road immediately after the Champions League win.

Indifferent performances and results surround some of our greatest European performances. Getting it right when it counts is what matters.

Young Henderson has a bit of dig drive and isn’t short of skill

Ronnie came with a rep of giving young players a chance

This will be twice he has sent young Liam out o. Loan

I feel this is about getting one over than the skint reincarnation of hate

    Doesn’t sit well with me

  2. If as some are saying RD doesn’t rate young Henderson then I’m afraid that he will not make a good manager!

Liam has a great engine, can tackle , can spot a pass and can score goals.

He is the identikit of a modern midfield player.

As others have pointed out last night we were bullied all over the park by a group of journeymen.

Without SB we lack real muscle and conviction – LH remind me of a young Davie Hay and he was the real deal!

  3. Again…Regarding the Liam Henderson love in…Ronny signs Allen and Armstrong both midfielders and lets Henderson go on loan Twice…Now how Knows Best?…

Hope the heat from the excessive ‘beeling’ burns off the morning mist and makes for a sunny day tomorrow – so much better for the SMSM photo-shoot!

  5. Must be something wrong somewhere. If we do this deal and strengthen Hibs with Dylan, Liam & cash we might keep Sevco out of the SPFL. Now the majority on CQN know for a fact that the men in power at Celtic want the Huns back. Can’t figure it out.

  6. Couple of things on the blog

Think this season is too early for Henderson to be a first choice, therefore a whole season of first team footy, albeit Championship level, will be good for him

Ryan Gauld – already think he’s past our budget. Sporting bought him for £3m, he has a ridiculously long contract with a ridiculous release clause in it

Scott Allan – I rate him, got a mixture of Broony and Commons about him. He could come good at Paradise

McGeough – decent player – think we took the option on his year just so we could bargain with Hibs IMO. Not quite Celtic standard though

Chris Jack 89 on Twitter is like a parody account of what it would be like to be Rangers supporter being paid to be a journalist. Oh you mean he actually is a journalist and not a super fan?

    Stupid Rangers.

Hibs now have a very good midfield, arguably the best in their division.

Wonder if Stefan S could find the goals at Easter Rd? :)

Much as though we would love to see Liam make his mark, I think it’s clear Ronny doesn’t think he is ready and has sent him out on loan to toughen him up, be good for him to be playing week in week out..

I do share your misgivings and I’ve been sitting here questioning my own hatred of the reincarnation…..

Also wondering why work is more important than being with my wife down in Glasgow watching oor boy at Piping Live!.

  12. Further to my comment re fans in the team, another thing I dis-agree with was the departure of Tony Watt the CF we need right now.

All the daft boy stuff, and I have no reason to dispute, could have been handled,in order to retain him as potential,it was all chinese whispers as opposed to:

    JF court case pending

    LG court case pending

    Ciftci 7 game ban

    Stokes Court case pending.

Yet who got transferred ,seems like a bit of backchat, and daft boy attitudes are more frowned upon as they require inhouse Management and in Watt’s case proper Mgmt was found wanting.

For the record from a close Family friend, he knows how stupid he was and would walk home for another chance.

Perhaps before whatever PL is smoking with Hibs wears off he should sign Watt again.

Aye that’s got me bamboozled as well. There must be a catch somewhere ;-)

  14. The old boy who won all the trophies at Rosenberg a few years ago wasn’t v complimentary about hendersons time there. Said too slow with & without the ball. Needs to improve quickly. Maybe some time at Hibs will help. I really liked what I saw of him

  16. Saw on twitter…..Ronny went to see Frankie Boyle, said it was the Funniest thing he’d ever seen….Peter Lawwell said..

    Really….Watch This….

    Brilliant..

  17. Disappointed that Liam Henderson is going on a season long loan to a Championship club.I think he is too good for that level of football. The media have made so much of Scott Allan being a boyhood Rangers supporter that even guys like Graham Spiers are buying into the nonsensical idea that we are trying to put one over The Rangers. So be it if some Celtic fans think that but I am sure Ronny is thinking of the betterment of the team rather than put one over a team who are not even in our league on many levels.

  18. Actually, Liam Henderson didn’t exactly excel on his last loan period. He failed to secure a starting place with Rosenberg. He obviously needs regular games at a level he can command first team football. Hopefully, he will achieve that with Hibs, and become a better player for it.

Old enough to remember missing out on Vialli. If Allan goes to Celtic I feel sorry for the lad but we’ve missed out on better and prospered.

    Blantyretim,

I’m afraid everything is pre-ordained – She’s back up the road tomorrow after she sees him at the festival café (?) to meet me at the annual family gathering at the last village in Sutherland before you hit Caithness….I’m going up there straight after work. Did I tell you I’ve a wee family croft in Sutherland? Haha – Whisky Olympics Mods haven’t a look in.

  21. I dont care who the bhoy supported growing up. There is a long list of great celts who followed the same team.

If he wears the hoops he gets my support and i have no doubt, just like Broony, he will get what it means to play for our great club

    Still too funny tho

  22. BT

Look on Scott Allan as a £5K per week project over 4 years. If he cuts the mustard (6-12 months from now) job done – if not he’s in an ‘easy’ price-bracket to move on.

Young Henderson is not a project – he’s on the cusp of breakthrough. However due to pecking-order (experience) its difficult to give him meaningful game-time. He needs to slot in for short periods – has to contribute and can’t afford to take more than two-touches in the midfield IF he’s to oust present incumbents.

Now drop him down a League where he can get away with an extra touch when needs be – allow him to dominate/ stamp his class and we will get back a player who has done a ‘school of hard-knocks’ apprenticeship. No relaxed/cosy days at Bhoystown waiting on the ‘nod’ to be included (start or off bench) – this will be full-on week in week out (brick sh!t-house changing rooms and all).

Aitken/Lenny/Broony didn’t get soft intros – Henderson strikes me as the type of Bhoy who will relish a bit of hardship and I believe it will be the making of him.

I’ve got high hopes for the Bhoy!

    H!H!

  23. Delighted with the Allan signing. Not just because we are getting a great prospect to fill the KC role, but that the Hibees will be getting two good midfielders,to add to Mc Ginn and Carmicheal.Lets Hibs now concentrate on getting a striker to partner Cummings. Its also a wonderful GIRFUY to the scum.

A very brave move by the boy as well.Hopefully convince some of the mouth frothers on here that the boy deserves a chance. Not holding my breath though.

I heard he was dead, planet tinfoil heid is some place going by his tweet you posted.

    He really is something else.

  25. I suggested the signing of Allan back in October, so I’m not going to change my mind, welcome to Celtic Scott.

Ronny has identified a lack of flair, killer pass, I expect him to be high up on the assists chart. Liam needs games, I think this is a great move for him and expect him back next season a better player for it. Dylan wasn’t going to feature, so the deal is good all round and that’s without mentioning the GIRUY’s

Also Alex Rae will be happy, he was worrying about Allan’s mental health if he stayed at Hibs.

  26. Ps Hope it becomes official when Jim *hite is doing his sky gig tomorrow, I can just picture him breaking the news and the wee yellow ticker tape going across the bottom of the screen,

So conspiracy theorists. Explain how Celtic funding T’Rangers rivals in sub division is actually a good thing for T’Rangers?

Celtic want T’Rangers back as soon as possible but if the stories are true we will give their main rivals two of our squad players for nowt plus cash to spend.

10 million for the bigot pound with a 50 50 chance of success or a free run at the Champions League every year?
