Alert on the left, the gravy in Ronny’s pie

761

I’m largely ignoring the defensive lapses of last night. There will be at least two changes for the Champions League, and everyone will be far more attentive. It was, though, a concern that both Kilmarnock goals came as a result of Celtic’s left-hand-side being breached.

Malmo’s Age Hareide will have noted this, and whatever attacking resources he deploys next week are likely to try to exploit a perceived weakness. Ronny will have a choice: Izzie or Charlie? My money’s on the latter.

Tom Rogic didn’t have the perfect game but it was good to see him take so much responsibility. He’s looked like the office junior of the Celtic midfield on previous outings, as did Nir Bitton for most of his early games. If Rogic has genuine talent, we need to let him find his feet in games like these.

Ronny Deila answered all questions after the game but gave little away. I hope his dismissal of injury worries was accurate. Kris Commons is the gravy in his pie. We are capable of beating anyone without Kris, but we need him doing his thing if we are to take a comfortable victory to Sweden.

Yesterday I was looking over Celtic’s form in November 2006 after doing an interview for a French magazine, who are writing a piece on Shunsuke Nakamura. That was the month Naka scored the goal which sent us top of the group and into the knock-out rounds of the Champions League for the first time – with a game to spare, no less.

It’s less well remembered that earlier that month we went out of the League Cup after losing at home to Falkirk on penalties, or that we couldn’t win at Easter Road immediately after the Champions League win.

Indifferent performances and results surround some of our greatest European performances. Getting it right when it counts is what matters.

  1. HT,

It was more to do with picking my brain, you won’t need much time :)

You might need a coil to deal with the twists though :)

  2. If the story is true, best of luck to young Dylan and Liam. Liam could be back with a championship medal in his pocket and gets to stay close to home.

Welcome to Celtic Scott Allan, you`ll get my support

Huns and their Meeja will be hurting over this one :) whaaaaaaaaa

Well played Hibs, that should be a big GRFUY to the Pretenders

I feel that Scott Allan has the potential to become a very good player in the correct environment. He has managed to secure a transfer to a massive Club and will become a better player due to the fact that he will have better players round about him. He will now, however, have to buy a house in the Vatican City, to avoid zombiehun retribution, and commute to work via the underground tunnel that connects Celtic Park to the Vatican.

If this does not signal to the Sevconian hun hordes that theirs is indeed a fledgling club then I’m afraid there’s no hope for them. Going to sleep soon with a massive grin on my coupon. Revenge as they say is a dish best served cold. Sorry to see Hendo go out on loan but he will be back an even better player. Better for him to play competitively every week than sit on a bench and play sporadically thus hampering his development.

I wish I was in Glasgow this weekend just to savour their pain and of course watch the famous Glasgow Celtic play the team with two goalkeepers.

Merit in what you posted. However consider this……………

RD signings; GMS, SA1, SA2 + loaning out Youth/Development – very much easier to move on if (worse case) they don’t work out for a fee (maybe recouping wages) than trying to shift a; Balde, Pukki or Boerrigter?

Hello again all you young rebels.

Scrolling back and see a load of new names posting now so

welcome everyone, bit of arguing and backbiting going on

but thats not unusual between Celtic supporters it’s been

ever thus , i’ve been disagreeing with my mates ever since

the late 50’s only now i have to do it by phone, it’s easy to

spot the agenda driven posts so we must be really worrying

these people with the effort they put in to try and disrupt

the blog, so don’t fall for it, just smile and scroll on that will

    really pizz them off.

My usual wee heads up for our Celtic fun weekend at the Bay

Hotel Mornington, a lovely sunny couple of days expected

so any Celts or visitors in the Victoria area get down here and

enjoy our hospitality, have a morning on the beach, lots of

eating places about and then come into our club you will have

a ball we have our usual Irish band ..Tara.. raffles and if your

early you will catch CQN,s Paddymacoz dancing, they say

his feet go like a fiddlers elbow.

But most important, wear the colours with pride it always lifts

my auld heart to see our wee town bathed in green and white.

If the boy has signed – above anything else – it will be funny.

Ex Celtic player manager won’t let him go to Sevco – their other Fenian rivals strengthened – etc etc.

I do have concerns however about the young chap and his family’s wellbeing. This won’t be easy for him.

Looking forward though – another brick gone in that infernal divisionary wall – if things go well.

Which I hope and I’m sure they will.

Also hope this isn’t a wind up!

Was the option taken on McGeoch contract to facilitate the Allan deal ?

Nota massive Allan fan……this craic is blinding tho

  9. Mullet,

£39m is the entire football squad/operation – I was only trying to use simple figures and a guess for first team, it could be higher :-)

Canamalar – another saving, insuring 2 players instead of 7, forgot about that :-)

Incidentally do you think the insurers are paying for Boerrigter :-)

Ghuys, I’ve bored you all enough tonight, strangely I will happily be shouting on the Bhoys on Saturday :-)

    Nytol and Hail Hail

Add to that I rate Allan as a player happy days

  11. As someone else pointed out, it seems RD doest see in Liam Henderson what the majority of Celtic Fans see ( myself included)..Guess Ronny knows best..

    Scott Allen…Heir to KC’ S throne…Maybe…but for me…The Poor mans Ryan Gauld….But hey,..Thats where we live…

  12. Malta Mick Fgura on

No brainer of a deal, young Dylan gets a club playing first team Fitba, if it is also Henderson, he gets game time and will improve with this experience..Allen comes to the bhoys, and dazzles via the ICT, Dundee, St Johnstone sort of games, hopefully ready then for the more challenging games..And the Huns get pumped….humiliated, how will the spin work now ???

  13. PFAyr, I posted on that 3 or 4 times. There was no logical reason to take up a 1 year option unless the player was a critical member of first team.. This was a player not making the squad. Why take up your 1 year option, it had to be a longer term plan to sell him back to Hibs.

  14. Wonder if Police Scotland or SMSM will pick up on the social media abuse of Scott Allan the way they did when Hibs fans first did it?

The Sevconian Admin on Zombie Zombie is having to do an emergency night shift deleting stuff, The Daily Rainjur will phone in on a collective sickie tomorrow.

    New Balance Friday?

  15. I’ve never seen Allan playing, so can’t offer an opinion on whether we should sign him or not. Of course the side show of him being ready to sign for the deadoys has given this greater focus. I had envisaged him being catapulted from a mere championship player into a world beater had he signed for deadboys. Maybe if he comes to us, he’ll remain championship class.

I see Liam Henderson as a future Celtic captain.

I hope that any signings in the next few weeks are in defence, in the full back positions and of course at centre back. If, as we assume, big Virgil goes, I hope we get someone who is a defender first and foremost and controls the back four.

Also love to see another striker signed, although I think Ronny will always stick with one up front. For me, playing two natural goal scorers will always be better than relying on supporting players who are not natural goal scorers.

Why do we need to send Liam Henderson on loan?

Is Allan a better player than Liam?

Maybe you fans who watch the lower leagues will know

Me , I’m disappointed if it is true

  18. I am a little surprised at how fast the signing has happened

I only heard we were interested this evenning

  19. Would worry about a young player going to hibs.

From what I hear from salt n sauce friends, the culture surrounding the players isn’t at all healthy. Bevy, casuals, bad attitude etc. not sure if it’s still going on.

  20. I am indifferent to the possible signing,I am however more concerned that RD does not appear a good judge re midfield players,in my view Henderson should not be loaned, why not loan Rogic and see how good he is without the support of Brown et al.

Furthermore he cannot loan McGregor because of the knee jerk contract he awarded last year.

The loan of Henderson, if it happens, is an error, and not the way to handle staffing problems when players are knocking the door asking for game time.

I want Celtic fans in the team, was Ronnie the only person who did not know we were playing Killie, who top to bottom hate everything we stand for currently and previously, our team last night to start should have had Henderson,Stokes, and Mulgrew to start to add a bit of attitude.

    The situation was totally mis-read.

Blantyretim, Liam Henderson has the potential to be a terrific player for us and I hope this loan move benefits both us and Hibs.

Liam when he came on last Sunday made a number of forward runs in the short time he was on and was good to see one of our players heading toward the Thistle goal..

Liam also won’t be scared to get into Sevco when Hibs play them.

Us signing Scott Allan is like us signing a foreign player I have heard about but never seen. In SA’s case, I saw him against Celtic a few times but don’t remember him. I have no idea about him. If he is now a Tim, I welcome and support him and trust Ronny’s judgement.

  25. setting free the bears for Res. 12 & Oscar Knox on 13th August 2015 10:50 pm Scott Allan’s girlfriend has to make some changes in her life.

I also seen on twitter last week one of the deluded with “have we signed Scott Allan yet” tattooed on his rear end, well I think it was his rear end :)))))))))))

  26. So Scott Allan to replace Liam Henderson in the stand and it’s costing us £275k for the pleasure. I sincerely hope Allan turns out to be more than a bit part player but I just can’t see him replacing any of our current midfield. Armstrong, Johansen, Brown, Bitton, Mulgrew, Commons, GMS & Forrest are all better options. Always good to get it up the currents but we need better players not squad fillers for European football.
