The sun shone, McStay’s Maestro’s ‘Celtic’ won from being two goals down and 25,000 people contributed to War Child, Unicef and the Rio Ferdinand Foundation.  Yesterday was another defining yardstick on the Celtic journey.

Getting the balance of these games right, in order to provide an actual ‘match’, is difficult, but the two sides managed it.  There were fewer Directioners there to see Louis Tomlinson than last year, but their contribution to the causes was still welcome.

Frank McAvennie scored a classic Macca goal.  Hollywood A-lister James McAvoy converted a penalty kick and looked as happy as you or I would in the circumstances.  We’re going to struggle when Tom Boyd retired from the Legends game.  Simon Donnelly and Bobby Petta looked like they could still do a job in the pro game, but special mention has to go to Gary Tank Commander (Greg McHugh).  The words “Nice, Lubo”, left my lips as I mistook Greg for someone else after a deft piece of skill.  Don’t ask me to explain.

It wasn’t football as you know it, but it was Celtic supporters doing what they do best – helping those in need.

All this came a day after the Paradise to Cardenden Cycle 2014, when a group of fans cycled from Celtic Park to John Thomson’s grave for the Celtic FC Foundation.

The Foundation is not the club, it is you, me and thousands like us who believe Celtic is something greater.  It works in four arenas:

Health
Equality
Learning
Poverty

There’s no obligation for Celtic fans to get involved, or to cherish any of the above, but I know many of us get a whole lot more out of Celtic by anchoring to these principles.

There’s a sense that we’ll see a new Celtic on Saturday.  Looking forward to it immensely.

  4. Sterling has been over-valued for at least 15 years on fx foreign exchanges. This is a significant reason why UK manufacturing has declined as the cost of products have been uncompetitive in global markets.

One huge upside to a Yes vote in next weeks referendum is that it might just kick start UK manufacturing for real this time.

One huge downside to this is that Scotland would be on the outside looking in at this recovery even though the Yes vote was the catalyst for it happening in the first place.

This of course assumes that Scotland does not wish currency Union with the UK,and would be part of an uncompetitive EU linked currency.

There are still a lot of arguments to be addressed in this referendum yet.

Currency is a massive issue and there seem to be no definitive answers or even guidance thus far.

    Confused?…..You bet I am.

Glad I don’t have a vote in it now.

That must be the most ridiculous and misleading post I’ve read on this board re independence. I could have said fallacious, but that would imply a deliberate lie on your part.

God will I be happy when the board returns to normality on September 19th and everyone can revert to insulting Kojo and TSD.

“If Scotland divorces Britain, the union jack will have to be redesigned, which is upsetting news for every prick with a union jack cushion on their stupid sofa in their stupid house. Minus the soothing, steadying blue of the saltire, the flag’s going to resemble a violent, blood-burst staining a shroud. Better to scrap it and start again with a new design that more accurately reflects the spirit of the age. I vote for a crying brown oblong.”

Jude, I don’t make it part of my mission to be able to spell the names of ex hun players correctly. Yes, that hun, the one they said looked like David Booowie. Another thief, with a heat of gold towards the orc support.

The money he stole would help pay the hun wages next month and keep the wolf from their door. Instead he offers hollow words and sympathy to ra peepil.

Seems like a top bloke actually. I hope none of these ex hun thieves pay back their debt until HMRC and their current board have put both old and new huns in the cold dirt.

Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink has endorsed John Guidetti’s credentials for achieving success at Celtic and satisfying the club’s supporters.

The Dutch striker, whose header delivered the Scottish Premier League title to Celtic in 2008, believes that if Guidetti can recapture the form he showed with Feyenoord, then both those boxes will be ticked.

Vennegoor of Hesselink witnessed the Swedish striker’s impact on the Eredivisie when his own return home to wind down his career at PSV Eindhoven in 2011-12 coincided with Guidetti’s 20 goals in 23 games for Feyenoord.

“I was still playing in Holland when John was at Feyenoord and he was the biggest thing in the country that year,” said Vennegoor of Hesselink, who was back at Celtic Park last Sunday to play in a charity match for Paul McStay’s side of former Celtic players against Rio Ferdinand’s select

“He was oustanding for Feyenoord. That is a club for the fans, and John played for them. He gave them a lot and they still talk about Guidetti in Rotterdam. When he first went there, the club was on a downwards spiral. He took it by the hand a little bit.

“Ronald Koeman was the coach and Guidetti was a little eccentric, but always up for the fight. When I heard Celtic were in for him and that there were problems with the paperwork, I felt it would be a big shame but now he’s signed.

“If John can bring the same as he did at Feyenoord he will be a great signing. John can run at defenders, he go in behind the defence and he is enthusiastic. He creates a buzz around the place and is a guy who can be a bit crazy in a good way.

“At a young age, he was a real leader for Feyenoord. They finished second that year to get into the Champions League. He then got a bad viral infection and I didn’t hear about him for a long time.

“John will hopefully bring personality to Celtic. If he can do what he did for Feyenoord, he will be a great signing for the club. He is 22. If he can stay fit, he will be a big, big asset to Celtic. John is a character and sometimes you need players who can take a hit for the team – who can take the pressure off the rest of the players.”

Vennegoor of Hesselink cost Celtic £3.4 million in 2006 and left in 2009 for Hull City, but the 35-year-old has told Virgil van Dijk to respond positively to Celtic telling the defender last week that he could not move to England.

“I read about Virgil’s situation but he now just needs to get his head down and play a lot of games,” said Vennegoor of Hesselink.

“There is a lot interest in him and I don’t know what the agreement is between the club and him.

“Virgil is big and strong and has a bit of Dutch pride in him. I like that in a player

No question (if I can influence the final decision) that money goes back into Scottish Investment Company. Their performance was really good. I am sure that will eventually happen.

The impact of “yes” will be felt most by the age group 40-60’s….will not have as much money.

The under 10 kids will benefit most from “yes” as they will be second generation leaders. Great Scottish education, time to adjust and accept the changes, they will build a solid future…..but with clowns like calton tongues spewing his venom……..Good luck to Scotland

    Hey lads and lassies …

Really been enjoying the independence debate on here, but as a lurker, without jumping into it. I’ve been pretty cheery over the last couple of days, and so I didn’t want to ruin it by getting into pointless arguments with NegAnon and Ernie boy.

It was a reasonable question, maybe brusquely put.

Thank you. So true about the children being the wealth. If “you know the history” the Scots and Irish contributions to this world are immense…..you clearly do know.

Too late for me….but the future for the young ones is good. Not so good for the 40-60’s age group.

  26. Reading this blog, I am left wondering how ANY country – apart from England maybe – can ever make it is an independent nation.

Really, about half the countries in Europe have a population of less than 6 million. But there they are. People trade with them. Some have their own currency. Others share a currency.

At this rate, Canada should just join the USA. I mean, what is the point go going on?

Quite scary how little courage, vision or confidence is left among many Scots.

  27. Momentum is building.

Yes signs in many windows, flags going up, four foot high yes cut outs appearing in gardens.

I think the polls published now are reflecting last weeks views.

There is a mood kickin about…

    And I like it!

  28. So Mwd says he supports the royal family? I don’t so I’m voting No, might as well have them in a pluralist society with faint vestiges of fairness that we live in at present than a society that hates Catholics, hates the elderly after a certain age (Like in Holland), hates people of colour. I’m voting No because in all the years SNP have run this country their limited power to increase taxes was never used, they brought in a regressive neo liberal freeze of council tax which means less public services which hits the poor the hardest. Now a cut in corporation tax for the businesses? Karl Marx corrupted pre esoteric socialist philosophers ideas, he thought that “life only has value when judged to have it by those of more value” we need instead to return to the philosophies of pre esoteric socialists and some modern non esoteric socialist that support a more humane, individual human rights and anarchistic and socially libertarian philosophy whereby each person can have as many children as they choose to have. Not the conformist, “life has value only when given it by those with more value” esoteric philosophy marx espoused. Don’t believe me marx was a freemason? Well here is a gold dust post by the Daily Mail (another masonic owened paper) on a totally unrelated article but it includes a picture used on less credible sites (credible for official biblography reasons I mean) which authenticates the same image used on more crack pot sites (which range from sedvanticists believing the pope is an anti pope to right wingers or far left non Marxist socialists that see the problems and anti equalitarian languages and ideas he espoused) look at the link below, what is that sign marx is making… Hmmm…..

  30. Che guevara on the other hand has no such hidden hand images on google. As I say he was a utopian marxist not a philosophical Marxist. Utopian Marxists believe Marx was all about equality, he wasnt, philosophical marxists wish to see the population drastically culled and believe only the elite of the party get to say who lives or dies. I support the utopian Marxists but wish they would tear their brand of socialism away from any negative non egalitarian influences that marx espoused and instead only keep the economic egalitarianism marx did espouse marx is not the farther of egalitarian socialsim, he is part of the esoteric elite and is an enemy of egalitarian anarcho individualistic libertarian socialism.

  31. Rascar you cannot argue with the fact that in that article linked Marx is clearly making the hidden hand of freemasonry gesture. I flag these up and Marxs other beliefs that are incompatible with egalitarianism, individual human rights based socialism not because I oppose such egalitarianism but because I support it, and I don’t want us to have the “blindfold” pulled over us by some one whose own manifesto shows contempt in many places for egalitarianism. Only the bit about the workers controlling the means of production was egalitarian the rest showed himself to believe he was above the proletariat I have no time for masons kidding on they support us when they do not. Lets have true socialism. Marx was not the form of socialism we should be admiring, we should admire guevara,Chavez and Castro whom to my knowledge do not have such hidden hand gestures and especially Chavez who implemented direct democracy, which is the best form of socialism.
