Appellate body CEO taking sides

826

So the chief executive of the appellate body awaiting a decision to appeal says, “It’s crucial with league reconstruction being such an important issue for the game that we now draw a line under what’s happened”.

According to the SPL Commission the president of that same appellate body was one of the “directors of Oldco [which]must bear a heavy responsibility” for what happened.

Responsibility, however, is an unnecessary concept for the chief executive of the appellate body, who told the media “It’s not about trying to find scapegoats to take responsibility for what’s happened in the last 12 months.”

Note use of language, those responsible are now “scapegoats”.

Scapegoat, def: A person or group made to bear the blame for others or to suffer in their place.

Let’s not look for scapegoats.  Instead let’s stick to who Lord Nimmo Smith’s Commision blame, “the directors of Oldco”.  Including the appellate body’s president.

The appellate body is unfit as an appellate body and as a football association.  SPL clubs must look for a new playing environment.  Let the SFA and SFL run the grassroots game. They appear to want this anyway and I am sure SPL clubs will flourish when no longer restricted to opposition from Scotland.

Just came back on for a quick look , brilliant story , I have family in Donegal and Leitrim so can relate to the Fighting Irish aspect of your story.

  5. A Challenge To The SFA

I have today asked the SFA how they will deal with the participation of ineligible players by the former Rangers FC in past Scottish Cup ties.

Regardless of the rationale that the Lord Nimmo Smith Commission used in its decision to fine the former club but not to reverse the results of past league matches, it must be remembered that a guilty verdict was delivered. Many players over many years were not correctly registered as footballers and they played in many matches, including Scottish Cup ties.

Now consider that Spartans were thrown out of the Scottish Cup in 2011 when it was discovered that a date was missing from a contract submitted to the governing body. Surely no sporting advantage was received because of the missing date? The judicial panel in this case did not decide, as per SFA evidence to the LNS Commission, that the player was eligible because he could have been, or because no one noticed the error until later. Instead it threw Spartans out of the Cup.

Now surely Scotland’s governing body will treat all clubs equally?

Here is the text of the inquiry I have submitted to the SFA. I look forward to receiving their response.

    ————————————————————————————————————————————

    Dear Colleagues,

You will be aware, of course, of the recent verdict of the Commission headed by Lord Nimmo Smith into the matter of the registration of footballers by the former Rangers FC.

You will also be aware that the Commission concluded that many players were not registered correctly, as full details of payments made to them were not disclosed to the footballing authorities.

I would like to inquire how this matter will now be progressed by the SFA in relation to the past participation of the many players involved in Scottish Cup ties.

You will recall that in November 2011, Spartans were excluded from the Scottish Cup because an incorrectly registered player was fielded in a tie. The club’s victory was subsequently overturned by an SFA judicial panel because of this administrative error.

The matter was reported at the time by the BBC. This link provides the details: http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/15672375

I note that the BBC reports that, “Scottish Cup rules now state that any club that plays a player who is ineligible will be thrown out of the competition. The rules also state that neither the judicial panel or anyone at the SFA has the authority to change this rule.”

I would be grateful for your comments on how this rule will now be applied in relation to the former Rangers FC in light of Lord Nimmo Smith’s Commission having confirmed that any players were not registered in accordance with football’s rules and were therefore ineligible to play in Scottish Cup ties.

    Yours Sincerely

    Gordon Johnston

As things stand we have a timescale of 2 more years minimum before Sevco hit the top league. Our board need to be working on ways to shaft them in the way they would be if the roles were reversed (only in our case we must do it within the rules).

A wee comment abt O Brien if I may.

I think the people that outed him were very concerned that he could become Pope someday and could not allow that to happen.

He should have left the priesthood years ago as he must have known this would come out at sometime. Its not easy being a Catholic these days.

Excellent post, a lucid illustration of how their financial doping worked in practice and how preposterous it is for anyone to hold that no sporting advantage was gained from it.

I really, really hope that the Celtic board are looking at all options here and that this stinking travesty of a judgment is not going to be allowed to the last word on the matter.

  13. Some excellent posts throughout the day.

My view – we are in the middle of a War, and to date have won many of the battles, but not yet the War.

I and my family will remain as foot soldiers, as the song goes “we shall never be defeated”, those who decide to give up on Celtic, are only giving that other mob an advantage, they will never get that opportunity from me.

I have not been to an SFA sponsored competition for 4 seasons, have not bought a newspaper for approaching a year, and stopped listening to phone ins.

My current way of supporting the fight, plus financially supporting the Celtic.

The current board may have many faults, but they are in positions because they are smarter than me, we may have to show them some support.

They are part of this war, and fighting our corner in an intelligent and corporate way.

Lets see how this current battle ends, but remember the LNS enquiry found them guilty.

It’s all very vague, but there is no reason whatsoever to think that Cardinal O’Brien’s improprieties should have caused him to leave the priesthood. None whatsoever.

As for him being elected Pope, I don’t honestly think even his biggest fan would have had any hope of that.

He is a good man who has shown some weaknesses, as all good people are liable to do from time to time. As far as we know, it was a few inappropriate moments with a handful of people thirty years ago. He has apologised for the hurt this has caused to the people involved and to the whole Catholic community.

He deserves a long and peaceful retirement for all the good he has done. We are all weak and we are all sinners.

I didn’t mean we as people are subserviant, I meant the club.

I have my doubts the fans will do the biz this time, the supporters of the other clubs imo, don’t think they have been cheated as much as we do.

I also have my doubts the suits at the club are up for a fight.

They have done us up like a kipper, they can and will do as they see fit, and no amount of bleating will change things.

The game is run for them, and by them, there is no will to change this, if there had been, it would have been challenged by now.

All Celtic have to do, is hand in it’s notice to quit.

That imo, will be enough for the appropriate powers to interviene.

In all honesty, I would rather we gave up altogether than allow them to crap on us when they feel like it.

They are laughing at us, and there is not a thing being done about it.
