ARMSTRONG – LET’S STICK TOGETHER

STUART ARMSTRONG reckons Gary Mackay- Steven’s quick-fire goal at Firhill last night helped settle both their nerves on their Celtic debuts.

With injuries to Kris Commons and James Forrest, both of Celtic’s new recruits were selected for first team action at Firhill by Ronny Deila and Armstrong certainly enjoyed the occasion.

Here’s what he had to say post match:

‘Gaz got us off to the perfect start and that settled all the boys in, especially me.

‘The game calmed down a little bit which definitely helped in the circumstances and to get on the score-sheet as well was perfect.

‘All the boys have been giving us a bit of stick that we do everything together since coming in, so when he got one I had to get one as well.

‘There was a high tempo and a lot of pressing so there was a lot to get used to and I am sure I will grow accustomed to life at Celtic in a few weeks.

‘Every time the ball went forward from them, we retrieved it quickly and went back on the counter. It was free-flowing and we had a lot of possession which allowed us to attack more often.’

Ronny Deila is certainly making a good early impression on the 22 year old midfielder.

‘He has been keeping things simple and covering the basics and adding bits as he goes and that’s been good for me, helping me settle in.

‘He gave me a chance against Thistle and I felt I did okay and got a goal, but I will have to keep up these performances if I want to stay in this team.”
