We’ve often talked about the only real danger to a football club: internecine strife:
Internecine, def: pertaining to conflict within a group, mutually destructive.
In football, your enemies can’t inflict permanent harm, that can only come from within. This morning’s media cover threats from Sevconians to boycott (clearly in homage to Irish tradition) club/company products. More power to their elbows, they should boycott every piece of tat Newco’s disparate IP rights holders churn out, apart from the occasional novelty duck.
Here’s the thing, before you turn the tanks inwards, you’d better be sure you’ve got the ‘What happens next?’ question sorted. If you don’t, you’re playing a real life version of Lemmings.
Threatening Mike Ashley? Aye sure, that’ll work, knock yourself out. I’m sure Ashley’s known as a big pussy, he hasn’t got the money to face down the malcontents, either. I bet he’s already writing his capitulation letter, “Dear Sevconians, by noticing that I can’t handle conflict you’ve outsmarted me. The game’s up.”
What was it Charles Green told John Brown he would do to Ibrox? Hmmm.
Blame the SFA, SPL, BBC, Celtic, Her Majesty’s lawyers, the Daily Record and Raith Rovers but you need to be on the inside to wreak havoc like this.
Interesting front opened by the English Premier League today on the copycat use of pyrotechnics at football games. “Someone could get killed”, said policing minister Damian Green. You’re 20 years out of date, Mr Green.
Here’s the problem: it’s possible to discharge one of these devices in a crowded area without accepting the safety/reputational/fine consequences. Enormously invasive searches of unconnected people would be required to prevent pyros being taken into a stadium which is just not possible, eradication requires everyone to decide not to participate.
The only practical method I can see of stopping the use of pyrotechnics in Scottish football is to give Sports Direct exclusive distribution rights. Who’d buy them then?

And/or order your copy of Sean Fallon, Celtic’s Iron Man, here:

Badabing.
It’s very relevant to the discussion. It’s a guy honouring his contract but taking the piss at the same time.
Everybody is dismissing the cognitive dissonance. ;)

Canamalar.
Your lecture about what is appropriate for the blog is irrelevant.
He wasn’t worth the money, he shouldn’t have been contracted at that rate but it was his decision to keep taking the money despite it being obvious it was inflated. He could have went elsewhere and got a fair rate. It was his decision to take all the money from celtic despite not earning it. I can appreciate that he has the right to be rewarded as his contract stipulates but for me celtic is different from an average business an emotions are invested as well as money.
If you don’t think that emotion should be involved in celtic then I’m talking to the wrong guy.
$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
Bhaloney!
Contract signed with mutual agreement. Celtic were dishonourable in how they treated
Bobo. He was well entitled to his stance. Met him at the Nou Camp when he was a Celtic supporter. Well done to the big mhan.
BoboBaldeCSC
Bobo was entitled to every penny he received. It was the Celtic board that was trying to pull a fast one. Anyway that is a long time ago what relevance does it have now.
The honest mistake
Come on m8 , we can all fall out but there is no need to direct that at Ernie

I’ve no idea what he was offered but the whole thing was mismanaged.
Ernie
do you really expect the manager of any football club or any business for that matter
to do a PR hatchet on the Financial Director.
What Gordo said was totally irrelevant and if you expect the truth ,the whole truth and nothing but the truth from any representative of a club ,business or even political party then you are either 13 yrs old or had a very sheltered upbringing
Re Bobo, Pedro wanted him out.
He went direct to Bobo to tell him who had no agent ( Mick Oliver currently at SFA was his advisor ).
Bobo went to Strachan who had not been informed by Pedro.
Bobo refused to go ( and he could have ) but exercised his rights to see out his contract. Subsequently dropped. He returned for 1 game at tannadice which I fondly remember as Celtic kept a clean sheet for the first time in a year. Bobo was lauded by the fans at the end.
Bobo was a great servant to Celtic and I am pretty sure Pedro with the benefit if hindsight wishes he had played his cards differently.
Gerrybhoy.
He was a willing participant in a game with celtic that made him rich for nothing. The other guilty party were those who drew up the contract and try to renege on it.

It is nothing to do with “what was offered”. it is to do with what was CONTRACTED and SIGNED.

It’s a great phrase.
It means you don’t have to tell lies.

Honest..,
What age are you ?
Really, you sound like a wee bhoy, Bobo honoured his contract end of, the Plc thought they could use people like you to try and shame him into capitulation and failed, as you are doing right now.
They agreed what they thought was a fair price at the time and reneged, irrespective of any revisionism you want to cast it was wholly a Plc failure, so your attempt at emotional attachment is irrelevant.
It doesnt matter if you like it or not, thats your problem, not Bobo’s and it never will be.
If the Plc cannot honour agreements then we should be worried about them, not those who suffered through that lack of commitment.
Pathetic or what?
NI support ‘vital’ for Rangers –
Murray
The Scottish businessman who hopes to gain
control of the board of Rangers Football Club
says local fans are essential to the future of
the beleaguered team.
Former club chairman Malcolm Murray was in
Belfast on Monday evening to drum up
support from the Rangers fanbase in Northern
Ireland.
He is part of a consortium along with Paul
Murray bidding for control of the Ibrox outfit
at the club’s AGM later this month.
Speaking about the support of local people,
Mr Murray said: “It’s vial. It’s a cornerstone
and it always will be.
“I go to most games and we always hate it
when we get a replay mid-week or a league
game postponed to mid-week because these
boys can’t make it.
naka
has there ever been a free kick where you knew it was going in as soon as he kicked it, ever been a fk as far oot as that where you knew it was going in- (sure he scored an fk in old Trafford like it in a friendly). Tommy Burns – did he score an fk like that – naw maybe not
mon the hoops ; )
For what it’s worth ( and I don’t know why this is being debated) Bobo was a better CH than both Caldwell & McManus , so it can’t have been footballing reasons he was dropped.
Much in the same way Lenny was given tuition on what to say to TV on Friday, WGS was also steered on what to say by the board.
Gerrybhoy.
As a settlement to leave the club earlier.
Usually differs from full contract amount.
IMO
I recollect a match – 6/7 years ago – possibly against Dunfermline away, when Bobo went into a challenge and laid out THREE opposition players!
I can still picture them flat out on the deck.
Bobo was unscathed.
Anyone remember?
HH!!

Just leave them to it , they have done a fine job so far by using the bigot card even MMs own kicked him into touch :))

I think I can give you 2 for Fri night is that any use?
Being linked with James Vaughn for 5M + by the MSM???……..unless its a smokescreen while we are actually looking at somebody else why bother.
Spend the money on a proven world class attacking midfielder and bring Tony Watt back.
Canamalar.
Aye I’m a wee Bhoy.
Same intelligence level as you.
Someone takes the pish out the club and you’re there defending him all because he was in opposition to the board. This is how Sally is still in his job at the zombies.
Artur boruc is another one who took the pish in the end.
Whoever valued Balde as worthy of £32,000/week is ultimately to blame.
Bobo was not good enough to play as first choice for Valenciennes when he left Celtic. He was used on 25 occasions over two seasons with them and had to leave to get a game with lowly Arles. How good he was in 2008 and 2009 will have to remain open to conjecture.

I’m sorry to disagree with you.
1. He had a contract and abided by it to the letter – (the club did not).
2. He was a better center back than anyone else at the club at that time and was not given a start because they tried (against the terms of the contract and unsuccessfully, to freeze him out), so he was quite within his rights to react as he did.
A good mhan was Bobo.
Hamiltontim.
Agreed.
Naka’s free kick against Man United was and still is the best I’ve ever seen. To beat that keeper from that distance in a high pressure situation with such power and precision was just absolutely amazing
Bobo contract was signed and seen out – any deviations (loop-holes) and either side would have used them to their advantage.
No such fuss when Stan signed a contract extension (to up the selling ante £7M?) and was punted to A. Villa without kicking a ball in the new season.
No such fuss when Aiden re-negotiated his contract and was punted for £9.5M?
Them’s the ‘wheels and deals’ – wouldn’t play Pedro at poker but even so – he can’t win every hand he plays!
Seen on TSFM :))

Don’t doubt he was better but wasn’t worth the extra money.
He knew he wouldn’t be played but…
His respect for the cash that was coming into his bank account was greater than his respect for me, you, celtic or even his ambition to play football.
Praecepta.
Stan and mcgeady should be applauded for the gift they gave the club towards the end of their celtic careers. Balde shouldn’t be.
A question……does Neil change Sunday’s team for our forthcoming games..?
Not sure it’s football or boxing I’m watching darke and mc Allister could be darke and watt…ohits
Maybe get a couple akso unless HT two from st martins bhoy.
