After full time on Saturday Celtic fly east to play Shakhter Karagandy in Kazakhstan, which is five hours ahead of UK time, but fortunately kick off on Tuesday is 9pm local time, 4pm in the UK, so the team will not have to adjust body clocks. Such a long flight immediately after a game is not without risk, though.
Muscles need to stretch and move freely after exertion. Players will need an exercise routine for the plane to mitigate the risk of the kind of strain injuries we see so often. Get a schedule for them to walk up and down the plane every hour.
I expect Celtic will have a scout at the Astana Arena for Friday’s game between Astana and Shakhter Karagandy but it might not be too revealing. The Shakhter coach and first team squad didn’t even attend the game prior to their last Champions League qualifier against Albanians, Korce. They were locked away in preparation as the second team were deployed for the league game.
It’s back to the Astana Arena, with its plastic pitch and closable roof, which is 135 miles from Karagandy, for the visit of Celtic, who will be hoping the pitch is a better standard than the one they played on in Sweden last week. Neil Lennon could perhaps put a call into his former team-mate, Aiden McGeady, who played on the surface for Ireland 11 months ago (Ireland won the World Cup qualifier after being a goal down with a minute of normal time left).

Enjoyed the game last night, Scotland look much more solid under WGS than they have under previous managers. The goals from set pieces will have annoyed him though – particularly the corner. Free header and no one on the post.
Thought Broony was excellent although tired in the second half. Forrest had a couple of good runs but didn’t get enough service and wasn’t in the game much.
Big few days coming up. An away game in a strange and inhospitable town miles from anywhere … and then a long plane journey from Aberdeen for the European challenge.

So just to summarise:
– Scotland are rubbish
– England are pretty rubbish too.
– Both teams made howlers which made it a topsy-turvy game.
– Scotland will never get to a tournament when they are still relying on players no club wants (Alan Hutton and Webster)
– England will continue to qualify for tournaments and be rubbish once they get there thanks to seedlings and the few good players who carry the rest
– Joe Hart really isn’t that good. He’s struggling to be a top 5 keeper in the EPL nevermind the World

Everybody who played at Wembley will have got something positive out of it so it was good to see Scott, Jamesie and later Charlie get some game time. Forrest did not get forward as much as he would have liked, but neither did Baines, so Gordon Strachan did Neil a favour there. Brown did well against a variety of players in midfield and pushed up when he could, good performance. Scotland’s remaining qualifiers could cause a bit of a problem if Celtic are in the Champions League, but I am sure Neil and Gordon will work something out.
