Atletico, Malaga, “breathtaking hypocrisy”

I was pleased Hearts won last night as all season I’ve been telling people we will win the league by double figures. Dropping the ball on Wednesday night put that in jeopardy but the gap is back to 12 points ahead of the visit of Motherwell on Sunday.

Ronny is likely to deploy more first choice players for his final game as Celtic manager against a Motherwell team who staged a remarkable recovery after a dreadful 2015, which would have seem them relegated if it weren’t for the huge gap between Premiership and Championship.

It looked like farewell from Emilio on Wednesday but you have to expect a few more will possibly make their final competitive appearances in the hoops this weekend.

I see a “Five-in-a-row but Peter Lawwell just cannot win” article in The Scotsman. Aye, fair enough, but the article ploughs into the Resolution 12 guys, and accuses other Celtic fans of “breathtaking hypocrisy”.

It appears to imply Financial Fair Play rules are not applied elsewhere in Europe (citing Atletico Madrid), so there should be no issues with the rules not applying to Rangers in 2011. I don’t follow Spanish club licencing too closely, but you will remember Malaga being banned by Uefa for having “overdue payables” to the Spanish tax authorities.

The rules ARE applied, clubs are banned from European competition for overdue payables.

I’ve been in touch with both the Res 12 guys and Celtic on this matter this morning (they continue to work together on a daily basis). It’s fair to say both robustly rejected the tone in the article.  I don’t know how this matter will end, but it will not be decided at Hampden, or in a newspaper office – cards marked one more time.

Zlatan on ending his stay at PSG, “I came like a king, I leave like a legend”. And then some.

  1. Just seen Ross Wallace goal tonight.. Great strike.

Made decent go off things down South. Pity we let him go , hindsight and all that.

  2. Thunder Road on

Houston has done a great job there at Falkirk when you consider the budget they need to stick to, while trying to compete with a team(or is that just the company?) that has to borrow about a million a month to put a team on the same pitch and Hibs.

Ultimately they were 11 points adrift despite only losing 4 games in the league and 2 of those were in mordor with those games being won/lost late on.losing a game less than the greatest manager ever seen not wearing a cardigan.

They even managed to have as good/bad defensive record.

Maybe a few waghornpens could have changed some of the 13 draws they had into wins?

Ach……fine lines at times and favourable decisions but over the course of the season it can make a difference eh?

  3. IMHO Ronny’s last game is on Sunday so we should be unveiling our new manager on Monday. If it is DD who is making the call then fair enough – MON, WGS were allegedly his appointments, both of them have respectable records and did reasonably well in Europe. I can guarantee with 100% certainty that who ever is appointed will not have universal acceptance on here or with the Celtic fans in general. If the Good Lord Himself was appointed somebody would find a fault ;-)

I’m at Celtic Park with Paul at the moment at the CSA Dinner. Leigh Griffiths and Danny McGrain for the awards – Danny’s speech was hilarious! What a man. Loads players here too plus Ronny who left quietly before he could take his applause.

We have agreed a price with a The Guardian but have still to haggle with the Swiss paper.

We have had loads of contributions – no idea on the total. I will advise everyone on this who contribute by email. Last time I got all sorts of abuse from you know who so want to be careful.

Celticrollercoaster will audit numbers for us.

Anyone want to contribute who can’t find the link – it’s at the top of cqnbookstore.com

Just to be a depressing so and so, the new boss won’t be wanted by half the support, then when he fails to qualify for the CL we worse off than now** :O)

** caveat I’m a happy clapper that likes PL, Ronny and still enjoys watching Celtic kick a ball

If anyone who posts or lurks on this site, is in East Kilbride tomorrow, between 2 and 3pm , Charlie Gallagher is signing copies of his book at the Celtic shop.

With regard to a potential new manager, soon to be ex Watford manager , Sanchez Flores, should preferably be on our list for our new manager.

  7. In reply to earlier responses to my defense of Peter Lawwell’s decision to give an interview to The Sun I stand by comments.

Liverpool FC have accepted The Sun’s apology and reasons given. There’s no sensible reason why Celtic FC shouldnt either.

As I stated I despise the rag and understand the hatred towards it but Celtic FC are entitled to use the nations favourite as a medium of communication.

Hating Peter Lawwell for doing so is churlish in the extreme.

  8. I want to contribute but am a bit of an illiterate in trying to do it. I don’t have paypal. Can I just do it by putting in my debit card details. Alternatively I’ll just have to put a few quid in an envelope & post it over to someone.

You were right, but the drama queens on here love it so you got it both barrels.

Doesn’t matter that Liverpool football club, ex Celts and ex Liverpool players have since published via the Sun. All that matters is the higher ground.

Think it’s too simplistic to blame the manager, so not sure why they come so close.

Over the two legs of the play off I just think they never got the rub of the green (And suffered from a poor referee performance) and can consider themselves really unlucky. Could have won both games comfortably so in that regard the manager done his job, but as we know; it’s a results driven business.

If big Alan stays, I wouldn’t be surprised to see him bring them up next season.

  12. Lawwell being involved in hiring the manager means it is fundamentally flawed. He selected Deila and kept him place a year longer than he should have. Lawwell also selected Mowbray who failed and Lenny who at the end the fans had enough of the dire football.

According to the Lawwells Interviews their is a selection committee and a strong board. I suppose that’s the one the little poodle Bankier is chair off and guys like Brian Wilson who will agree to anything to keep their seat in the directors box. Dermot seen the mess at the Sevco game so he will not leave Lawwell alone so he can throw curve balls at guys like Keane.

Lawwell will manoeuvre to appoint a football manager who will not interfere in his Director of Football activities which drives in/outs on an excel spreadsheet based on costs.

The failure to ditch Roony after numerous setbacks means the new puppet has 6 weeks prep for the CL qualifiers. £30M at stake and no manager in place. Everybody has known for months Ronny was toast. So why is a manager not in place.

As Lawwell siphons off his cool £1M/ year he will nickel and dime any new appointment to come close to Ronnys £400k package. Expensive assistants will not be agreed upon and don’t be surprised to see John Kennedy in the mix.

If by some miracle Lawwell appoints a decent manager I give him 6 months before he tires off Lawwells games. It may even be the new manager sees thru Lawwell as he tries to recruit players before CL qualifiers. The churn in Celtic managers is down to one guy Lawwell — his continued presence and interference will see the new guy lasts barely a year.

Time to go Pedro—give him £5M so he goes ASAP.

  13. Dallas Dallas where the heck is Dallas on

Winning Captains , thank you for all you have done and also to Auldheid,Canamlar, Morrissey and Brogan for the Resolution 12 efforts.

Danny McGrain was never given a proper send off . It would be great if he unfurled the league flag at our first home league game next season. The late and wonderful Sean Fallon should have been asked to unfurl the flag long before he did .

I feel its fitting that Danny gets the opportunity to be given the welcome a true Celtic legend , both on and of the pitch, thoroughly deserves.

Legend is such an over used word but it definitely applies in Danny’s case,.

Thirty years and one day since Danny’s playing career with us ended.

Winning Captains is there an official Celtic FC statement on Resolution 12 ?

Did you not read the Lawwell QA that has been torn apart on here by the negatives?

Pete said Celtic will be issuing a statement in due course

    Winning Captains ,sorry for that.

I passed the Celtic shop in East Kilbride earlier and there was a notice about Charlie doing a book signing. I should have looked at it closley .

How do Liverpool supporters view The Sun?

I didn’t see anyone saying they hated PL as a result of his interview. I’m disgusted and every Celtic supporter I’ve spoken to has said the same.

  17. Gordon64 on 13th May 2016 10:50 pm

The Huddle Sorry I don’t buy the Sun.

    ——

It wasn’t posted in the Sun so you missed nothing.

It was posted on here by Auldheid and quotes from PL.

  18. SydneyTim says sack Lawell now on

Winning captains Was paul having the lamb? And was it succulent ?

The most important thing in a new coach is when the park lawwell list is put in front of him full of young inexperienced players who might be sold to EPL , the coach puts it in the bin and says fir the same money as 6 of these duds , I can buy one experienced 30 year old

And the coach must also say to PL, get back to office and stay away from me

  19. Gordon64 on 13th May 2016 10:57 pm

The Huddle. That is not an official statement from Celtic FC.

    ————–

You asked if there was an official statement, did you read back before you posted?

  20. Foxy…

I understand and appreciate where you are coming from, I see a lot their papers being bought by Celtic supporters I work beside.

One of whom surprised me, when I questioned him on it, his reply was…know your enemy.

PL is no fool, he knew exactly what he was doing, spreading his word and some Celtic supporters will see it as a Vicky to the record.

It’s his job to get Celtic in the smsm, a job he is paid far too much for.

So your point is valid but like me it probably leaves a bad taste in the mouth dealing with that rag. HH

“PL said he has nothing to do with them, and please ffs, don’t go into a university answer with a biblical type rant, I’m not the least bit interested , he told you nothing to do with him, that’s it, I knew that, you don’t believe him, fine, but don’t put in what you think he meant, ffs, another mind reader.”

Firstly, I don’t think PL did say what you have took from it in the bolded parts above. Are you really saying he takes no interest in the financial parameters of our transfer budget? That would come pretty close to accusing him of dereliction of duty. As CEO should he not have a role in transfer negotiations and in deciding who is too rich for our purse?

Secondly, for someone not the least bit interested, you have posted so I have done you the courtesy of replying.

Thirdly, the reason I put this forward as a “what I think” was to distinguish it from other posts where I am putting forward harder evidence. I was being completely honest and open in stating that I have no inside connections and info. And though you may be more advantaged than me, in that respect, I don’t think you have undersood what you have been told by PL if you think he told you that he had nothing to do with it all.

    Quote from the papers

Much of the discontent revolves around Resolution 12 and whether Rangers should have been granted a licence to play in Europe in season 2011-12. Where do Celtic stand on this?

We will say something on that shortly through our own means. We respect the views of all our supporters.

Auldhield then posted that this was the plan

I had to scroll back to get that quote yet you couldn’t be arsed :O) valuable drinking time wasted
