Background noise on England unhelpful

425

Several news outlets are running with our name attached to a prediction that we will join one other club in the English football structure within five years.  This prediction is little more than background noise and is not indicative of any initiative or plan.  A Scottish club cannot ‘buy’ an English club, relocated them and work their way through the leagues without the prior permission of both the Scottish and English FAs.

The notion of clubs buying clubs is not worthy of your attention and you should none of this ‘information’ should be used to support share valuations.

Celtic’s future is inextricably linked to the futures of Scotland’s other senior clubs, all of whom need to plan for their futures.  Background noise like this only makes creating the environment necessary to fulfil those plans more difficult.

The Wayside Club in Glasgow has been serving the homeless and destitute for 80 years.  It survives exclusively by charitable donations and is the only homeless resource in Glasgow which is open 365 days a year, offering food, non-alcoholic drink, showers, a hair-cut, shaving facility, first aid and a friendly face to those living on the very brink of existence.  For its patrons, it is an oasis of normality in a harsh and cold world.

To raise funds they are having an 80th Anniversary Gala Dinner at the Hilton in Glasgow on Saturday, 27th April.  Individual tickets are available for £50 each, with tables of 10 also available.  If you would like to attend email me, celtiquicknews@gmail.com, and I’ll put you in touch with inspirational volunteer, Tom Boyd senior.

If you can’t make it along to the night you can support the Wayside Club by donation at their VirginMoneyGiving page.

I know the generosity of CQN readers does not need to be stated but my sincere thanks to everyone who participated in the auction for a bottle of whisky yesterday. A stunning £1901 was raise. Nippy.

We are busy pulling the next issue of CQN Magazine together, if you would like to advertise, let me know.  The Magazine has incredible reach and offers an excellent opportunity to showcase your brand of company (see below).  Enquiries to the usual addres…….  Thanks.

  2. On Saturday my good lady and I enjoyed a truly outstanding evening in the Queensland Performing Arts Centre (QPAC) in Brisbane, savouring Queensland Opera’s magnificent performance of the JS Bach masterwork St. Matthew Passion.

    Words cannot describe how utterly beautiful this work of genius is when delivered with such drama and musical and vocal perfection. 2 orchestras and 2 competing choirs under the guidance of a world class conductor produced over 3 hours of sublime entertainment that left us unable to move from our seats for some time afterwards.

    The best musical entertainment I have ever witnessed in my entire life, and I have seen very many. It really was that good.

    Hail Hail.

    The government in England has decided that those who wish to pursue a career in nursing will have to work as a healthcare assistant for one year as part of their training.

    This is the headline response to the Staffs hospitals scandal where hundreds of people died through neglect and negligence.

    From 5 live it would appear that medical staff were at fault when, in fact, the premature/unnecessary deaths were due to a management obsession with targets coupled with a culture of secrecy and cost-cutting.

    Good morning CQNers,

    Could I just add the following facts about immigration, they should counter any future Kojo/Singing Detective etc,etc….. attempts to overstate the effects of immigration on their green and pleasant land.

    But Downing Street struggled to provide figures to illustrate the extent of the problem and the headline-grabbing crackdown may turn out to be less severe than it first appeared. Mr Cameron said people from the European Economic Area (EEA) -the 26 EU countries plus Norway, Iceland and Liechtenstein-would lose their right to jobseeker’s allowance after six months unless they have a “genuine chance” of finding work. But they can already be stopped from claiming unless they have a “reasonable chance.”

    Latest government figures suggest that, of the 2.2m net migrants from the eight Eastern European nations that joined the EU in 2004, only 12,850 claimed jobseeker’s allowance.

    Number 10 said the NHS should recoup between £10m and £20m from EEA nationals’ health treatment in the UK under reciprocal agreements. But Jeremy Hunt, the Health Secretary, suggested the NHS was losing £200m. He said there was a “strong incentive” for hospitals not to declare a person “a foreigner” because they then had to chase payments.

    Downing Street said the number of new social housing lettings going to migrants had risen by 40 per cent between 2007-08 and 2011-12 -but later admitted such lettings still accounted for only 9 per cent of the total.

  9. Below article from WorldSoccer.com

    Lone Rangers

    Rangers chief executive Charles Green is convinced that the club will be playing in England within five years.

    He said: “Whether it is next week, because the English authorities change their mind, or in five to 10 years, Rangers and Celtic will leave Scotland.

    “I would like to think within five years.

    “I say to English clubs, ‘Don’t be afraid of the unknown’. There will be cross-border leagues and that
will change the face of European football. These doors are opening.”

    Unfortunately for Green, English football does not want Rangers, Celtic or any other Scottish team – although if pushed the preference would be for a club that does not bring with it over a century of sectarian baggage. Undeterred, the Rangers chief is convinced that when they see the financial benefits, that viewpoint will change.

    “Why would football clubs or football authorities not want Rangers and Celtic?” he responded Green. “If they say, ‘It wouldn’t add anything into the game’, they are lying.

    “I watched Southampton play Wigan. The stadium wasn’t full – there were empty seats. Now there is no way any team Rangers play will have empty seats.

    “That is what football wants – to bring the money in. Not just to keep banging on Rupert Murdoch’s door and say we want more cash.”

    Leaving aside the ethics of a Scottish team parachuting into a neighbouring league, let us be clear about one thing here: Green has no interest in the fate of Scottish football, English football, Celtic or even Rangers. What interests him is the money that will pour into Rangers coffers should they ever be admitted to the English football pyramid.

    Sounding increasingly like David Brent, Green continues with his ‘radical’ agenda.

    “Where I get frustrated is when people say, ‘These are the rules’. Well, change the rules,” he added. “If the FA and the English Football Leagues want to deny it, I would go to court. I think that it’s sad.

    “I don’t ever want to go to court. The club secretary is in contact with the FA and we are trying to fix an appointment for me to meet them. This is not Cheryl Cole v Ashley Cole. We want to talk face to face.”

    Cretin!

    This is from The Sun……..

    CELTIC are in the hunt for £3million-rated Bulgaria international winger Aleksandar Tonev.

    SunSport can reveal Hoops scouts have been tracking the left-sided star all season.

    But the SPL champions face tough competition for the 23-year-old’s signature from Italian cracks Lazio and Fiorentina.

    Tonev, who is contracted to Lech Poznan until 2015, was voted best young player in his homeland two years ago on the back of some scintillating form for CSKA Sofia and was soon snapped up by the Polish side.

    Tonev has continued to make a big impression since gaining the first of his ten Bulgaria caps in October 2011.

    He hit a hat-trick — his first international goals — in last Friday’s 6-0 World Cup qualifying win over Malta.

    But Celtic watched him as far back as October’s friendly draw with Denmark. Hoops boss Neil Lennon has long been concerned by a lack of pace in his side.

    Ongoing injury doubts over James Forrest have also left the Parkhead manager worried about a lack of natural width when the Scotland starlet is unavailable.

    Tonev has been identified as a potential solution to both issues.

    However, German and Turkish clubs are also keen on the highly-rated attacker.

    Green is either :

    a) Trying desperately to keep his fledgling 4th tier club on the news pages.

    b) Trying desperately to keep the supporters of the old club attending (cracks are

    c) Trying desperately to reassure his backers, that their investment will ultimately bear

    Littlejohn does similar in The Mail.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~
    “How the lies on global warming snowballed
    From The Independent, Monday, March 20, 2000, a story headlined: ‘Snowfalls are now just a thing of the past.’
    It quoted Dr David Viner, head of the climate unit at the University of East Anglia, as saying that in future: ‘Children just aren’t going to know what snow is.’
    That would be the same Dr David Viner whose department was accused of suppressing the existence of evidence casting doubt on global warming.
    The coldest winter in 30 years: Far from being a thing of the past, snowfalls are still very much with us
    Thirteen years ago, the global warming gravy train was only just getting into gear. Since then we’ve lived through a decade of global cooling.
    Far from being a thing of the past, snowfalls are still very much with us. This has been the coldest winter in 30 years.
    Rather than admit they were wrong, the so-called ‘experts’ simply changed the rules. Out went ‘global warming’, in came ‘climate change’.
    The Government’s outgoing chief scientist was yesterday still insisting that the world is heating up.
    Dr David Viner was quoted in a story in The Independent back in 2000 saying: ‘Children just aren’t going to know what snow is’
    When confronted with evidence to the contrary, he tried hilariously to argue that the weather we are currently experiencing is being caused by all the carbon we released into the atmosphere 25 years ago.
    Yep, the snow which has Britain in its grip this week has been a quarter of a century in the making.
    If you believe that, you’ll believe anything. Actually, the global warming, sorry ‘climate change’ head-bangers will believe anything which reinforces their zealotry.
    Unshakeable faith in ‘climate change’ is now the official religion of the Met Office, Whitehall, the EU, the UN and the BBC.
    We are all paying for this lunacy through our gas and electricity bills, which are inflated by heavy subsidies for inefficient and ludicrously expensive ‘green’ energy sources.
    In the name of saving the planet, our countryside and coastline have been scarred by useless wind farms. Meanwhile, India and China open another coal-fired power station every five minutes. We are closing perfectly good power stations to meet arbitrary EU carbon targets.
    Soon this bovine stupidity will lead to the lights going out across the country. It is industrial and economic suicide.
    At the weekend we came dangerously close to running out of gas. Yet Britain is sitting on a bottomless well of shale gas just waiting to be exploited. Shale has transformed America and slashed energy bills.
    But ministers remain in thrall to the eco-maniacs and the greedy spivs of the ‘green’ energy industry, growing fat by fleecing consumers as an instrument of government policy, which is still being dictated by the deluded, lying fanatics who told us 13 years ago: ‘Snowfalls are a thing of the past.’”
