Barca calling out Uefa, sympathy for Forrest

552

My initial reaction to a Sunday 12:00 kick off time is not positive. It’s out of routine, so there’s an inherent objection, but as I don’t have a long journey to Celtic Park it may end suit me better than a later kick off.

Fans who travel from great distances will have the inconvenience of an early rise, but some, who are dependent on public transport, will be prevented from attending, which is never a scenario to be treated lightly.

I see a bit of angst against James Forrest over his decision to reject a new Celtic contract and opt instead to leave the club when his contract expires next year, if not before. I don’t think we’ve seen the best of James. When he arrived in the team in the wake of Aiden McGeady’s departure he was on fire, but the intervening years have not been kind.

Injury has robbed him of a regular starting place, and a fair bit of form when he does get in the team. Sean Maloney was in a similar position a few years back. Injured for long periods, even when he was fit he was often a substitute. He needed to leave Celtic Park for a fresh start. Had he stayed, I don’t think he would have rediscovered his early peaks. Putting all emotive issues aside, James Forrest looks like a player in need of a fresh start.

He’s not alone, of course.

Barcelona president, Josep Maria Bartomeu took a shot across Uefa bows when he told the BBC he wants big (trans: rich) clubs who fail to qualify for the Champions League to be given wild card access. Make no mistake, this is a follow up to Karl-Heinz Rummenigge’s recent utterances on creating a closed-shop tournament.

Bartomeu also said he views the FA Premier League as the biggest threat to Barcelona, which is 100% true. When teams like Bayern Munich and Barcelona coordinate statements on structural change you know that profound moves are underway.

I’m all for change, Celtic have much to gain, but we need to organise quickly. Find similar allies – big clubs from Netherlands, Belgium, Greece, Turkey and Portugal – and plan accordingly. Europe’s major clubs are each leaving hundreds of millions of TV money on the table each year because of the existing league and European tournament structures.

England has opened their eyes to what is possible. Change of some sort is inevitable now the ball is in play.

  1. Looking forward to watching Messi and co tonight. Gunners have a 50/50 record v Barca in their 5 matches. Bet Barca at 4/5, doubled with Dundee -1, also 4/5. Dundee recently skinned St Johnstone at Dens and Paul Hartley will be looking forward to a trip to the Stade de Merde. Heart bleeds for poor Willie Gollum !

  2. We all know the involvement of the SFA in keeping them alive . We had guys working awayguyskeep the pressure on the blazers . Now it seems that no one at all involved will get their fingers rapped . Seemingly it never happened , our guys had a small chance of getting a result against the SFA .but if the law of the land is on there side , i fear we are doomed . Cant believe the cases are all being dropped at will . And dont hold much hope in the big appeal being dismissed .

Conte to Chelsea ? If the media are to be believed it is a done deal. My flabber was gasted when I learned he was seeking the fast tracking of the court proceedings re his alleged role in alleged match fixing and related criminal association. It made no sense but it does now.

Why was Steven McLean not demoted?

    ===================================

Steven McLean was PROmoted for screwing the Tims’ treble bid.

He’ll be at the Euros this summer, part of the SFA ref team.

Gollum got his baws booted for inadvertently helping the Tims’ title bid through his imcompetence

This is Scottish Football. Hive of scum and villainy. And that’s just the SFA.

  5. See the Conte to Chelsea story includes Mancini to Italy . Ottogenerian Inter fan down the valley said this – ” a well paid part time job is perfect for Mr Prada knickers “

I’m agreeing with you, however the demotion of referees should not be due to a media witch hunt,I hope clubs are informed how this system of demotion works otherwise the media will decide who referees games, as far as I am concerned refereeing in this country is unaccountable with clubs paying a bill for these officials no matter how poor they perform, that to me is a very bad situation. The supervisory system of referees needs explanation cause if Collum is bad warranting demoting why not the others?

  9. Morton cup tie at Midday on Mother’s Day?

Utter madness to please bloody Sky.

We really are losing the plot in this country.

Cue thousands upon thousands of empty seats, 15k will be a very good attendance in it gets there but the sight of an empty stadium make Scotland look silly again. There again, in this case, we are.

How the media will rejoice though.

Meantime the Huns get a Saturday draw and, no doubt, a full stadium. What a stitch up.

Jimtim, if you were referring to Rangers being kept alive, you are wrong. They were liquidated.

Sadly, Old Firmism – together with its embarassing paranoia – hasn’t disappeared.

Too many Celtic men can’t live without some form of Rangers.

  11. Jimmci,

    Totally.

The shift actually suits me as I couldn’t make the game if it was on Saturday, but I’d rather miss it and it remained on the Saturday with a decent crowd than be able to attend if I’m honest.

Surely I didn’t just hear The Great Warbo being a tad disrespectful in his interview? Planning for going up to the premiership when league not over.

Not only that, but looking forward to four ‘Old Firm games'(sic) which assumes a place in the top six.

    Warbo positively oozes respect……….(or something).

  13. SoT-I watched Napoli v Milan last night, first Italian league game I have seen for years. I thought it was a really good game, and more attacking than previous. Some great defending from both teams, which you don’t see over here.

  17. Original sadies bhoy see the answer from TET. Celtic are a leading member of the spl now SPFL and so party to the 5 way agreement. The media have already called out Lawwell as being involved and he hasn’t denied it. I know it’s horrible to have to face up to this but errr face up to it.

Do I deserve all of your misplaced anger? It might make you feel a wee bit better, just for a wee bit.

But then comes along more evidence of what is really going on. I see Collum has been demoted to errrrr protect his reputation! My Scotland has a way of twisting words eh. I look forward to the referee backlash and the strikes etc.

It has been clear to me for some time that Collum has been singled out. He clearly hasn’t stayed on message whilst his colleagues can, with impunity,,make awful calls against Celtic, Collum was a Catholic and he wasn’t just making bad d visions against Celtic.

And so here we are (again).

It seems the only time referees get punished is if Celtic somehow benefit from it. Funny that huh.

    And Celtic?

Well they will probably be busy tonight getting a press statement together to attack the Celtic support.

Funny I don’t remember a fuss being made when warburton complained about referees and asked questions of the sfa.

Ah it’s a strange wee country after all……..

What you’ve got to remember is there’s a Fenian conspiracy to undermine Rangers (or Sevco as the fenians call them)

That’s what caused all their troubles, don’t ye know.

Anyways, none of that Barca team would get intae Warbo’s team. Not one of them.

What about the stay aways – six points clear, signing everything and anything, (with the emphasis on anything) en route to five on the stoat?

It’s not for every Tim obviously considering the circumstances and bi-product we have to contend with. Maybe they preferred semi secluded cheating and an even more unlevel playing field?
