I love this time of year. As we publish, 60 hours of the transfer window remain. Celtic have gaps to fill in the squad, we have targets for each position, each target has his own target destination clubs, and the potential selling clubs all want to hold out for as long as possible to get top price – and some do not want to sell at all.
There are options for several positions we could have concluded on Monday. These were not top of anyone’s list, of course, and not cheap either. Hospital facilities are reserved in cities across Europe, most awaiting medicals that will not happen, but may be required before Friday evening.
How long should we wait for top targets? You certainly wait this late in the window. Bedwetters signing players early in the window to relieve anxiety symptoms is a sight to behold. If you have that knot in your stomach right now, just go pop an antacid and let those with a seasoned constitution cope with stressful negotiating situations.
Every transfer window follows the same rules. Players want the most money possible and the best stage to enhance their subsequent contract. Clubs do not want to sell valuable players with a lengthy period left on their contracts. When a sale looks inevitable, they employ agents to entice more bidders into the market.
If more than one bidder is involved, stalemate can run until deadline day. People who ask, “Why are we not signing players earlier?” occupy that special peak at the top of the Dunning-Kruger chart. None of this is news, we all know and accept this as an absolute article of faith.
So why all the angst? This is the game, let the enormity of what Celtic are attempting to achieve over the next two days sit with you for a few moments and you might begin to enjoy the unfolding drama. It sure beats wearing adult nappies (I’m led to believe).

A couple of weeks ago someone posted (sorry I can’t recall who) that we were awaiting the outcome of the Sevco qualification attempt. This was pooh poohed – given nothing significant has happened since, it begins to ring true. If theme get a result tonight I hope the loudest sound in Glasgow is not the slamming of the Ole Biscuit Tin lid.

Heard that one before, it is said it could add an extra £10m if they are out. However since we seem to be having difficulty making a dent with the current £60+m in the bank, another £10m is neither here nor there!

The end of August and the end of the transfer window hasn’t changed since those comments were posted.
We were always going do business on last few days, which just happens to also be when the Euro qualifying are played.

James Pearce of The Athletic (who is very well connected regards LFC news) says we are the front runners for Nat Phillips.
Front runners in a 1 horse race,he must be due a Testimonial for Liverpool reserves

Except it wasn’t a 1 horse race, which you would have known if you’d read the article from James Pearce. You’ve just commented without checking the story.
BRENDAN RODGERS is poised to raid his former club Liverpool for centre-back Nat Phillips.
my god its that our definition of quality required to take us forward , heaven help us .

That is as much confirmation as I need that this is a no-bad signing! por cierto
Phillips is just a stop gap till CCV and Maik are fit again.
Don’t hear anything about options to buy, suggesting he is not part of the plan to take us forward.
Phillips has a better CV than CCV 😁 but so did Duffy.
He should have enough to handle the SPL, Europe we’ll see.
Regarding this transfer window ,up till now quality signings none,Thursday and Friday will be crucial for players coming to Celtic, hopefully there will be a few additions especially in defence, pretty sure we have enough of forwards to see us come through till January if that makes sense.

On player development – we only have 1 player in the Scotland u2i squad ,Ben Summers and he’s on loan to Dunfermline
Ben Summers, Ben McPherson and Matthew Anderson all made under 21 squad
Ben Doonigan just missed out :-)

and the brilliantly funny –
dont ask me to name what players should be brought in, that is the scouts job
followed by
awe nawe, whit did we sign him for,
Tonight Matthew, I’ll mostly be having a schmoke and a waffle……
HH
Why don’t they head up to Lennoxtown and ask Brendan for a job as a scout?
Seems like P67 is/was very bullish about the likelihood of good signings over the next 2 days. Great to read, and hopefully the plans that are in place come to fruition.

Celtic & Benfica have ‘practically everything agreed’ for the loan of Portugal U21 midfielder Paulo Bernardo to Celtic.
It’s unclear at this stage whether this includes an option to buy the player.

Good couple of days ahead I think.
Big Adidas Friday.

Big wavy I wouldn’t imagine we will take him without a clause to buy.
Wasting everyone’s time.

What Tom McL said at 4:51pm
Benfica readiness to do another deal with Celtic maybe suprises me some.
The two Benfica supporters in my organisation were spitting bullets that they sold JOTA on the cheap and then we sold him for mega bucks, even though they got a sell on cut.
They blamed the chief executive Pedro Lawalio
The board rooms will be both be happy with the jota deal, that’s all that matters st. Stiv

so we are a pot 4 team and the winners of the PSV game will go into pot 3
It’s really hilarious on here.
Like the real world folk with entrenched views totally ignore reality and dig deeper / double down on their opinions.
No idea if Philips is a player myself. His experience is a bit more than CCV of a couple of years ago.
Happy to hear any of those complaining suggest better options or maybe they are best just suck it up. This seems to be the guy we are taking. I am sure Brendan will have been involved somewhere on this. Hopefully the guy can get focused on Sunday and the biggest test of his footballing life. Despite his flawless Champions league pedigree from 5 appearances.
Hope we get PSV tomorrow 👍

I like to keep a look out for all the youngsters who left and went to big clubs(Germany and England) and see how they progressed.A barometer for me is the Scotland team it”s sad that we (SPL) have so few in the Scotland set up.I think we depend on some players grannies being Scottish………sad state our game is in.

very recently, one of the Scotland games featured 8 players who had a Celtic connection, either first team or sometime in our academy system.
That they go elsewhere to progress is the modern way, like us taking Frimpong from City and Dembele from Fulham.
2 way street.

You usually start with that line,so Phillips was ‘flawless ‘ in 5 CL games, you must have been there? No?….the guy’s 26 and cant get near the bench on a match day.
