Bedwetters better wear a nappy

351

“We weren’t as sharp as we usually are. A lot of my players looked tired, too many of them simply weren’t in this game,” said the Celtic manager after a 0-0 draw with Hibs, a result that would allow Rangers to close the gap at the top of the table to one point.

The manager in question was Wim Jansen after a game in April 1998, the “Rangers” in question was Oldco, not Newco.

Yesterday’s Celtic performance was miles better than the one 24 years ago and yesterday’s Hibs were superior to the Hibs team relegated back then.  Those of us who were there, use it as a counterbalance when red lights appear to go off.  You can win a difficult league even when you cannot win important games.

Wim, in his first (and last) season at the club, remained calm, despite the alarming performances at the most crucial of times for Celtic.  He knew he needed to lead the players and the entire club through a difficult period.

I see parallels between Wim and Ange, their softly spoken demeanours, tactical insight and determination to keep all eyes on the prize.  Yesterday’s result and performance is not what the manager or anyone wants to see, but bedwetters better wear a nappy, we are in capable hands.

I think this season will be won (or lost) by default! I still believe Ange needs another transfer window to get the players in for his system to work. In Ange we Trust!

  2. Paul 67,

Even watching the game from a warm, cosy pub it was a dire performance. The vast majority of us have watched Celtic for donkeys years, we recognise a dismal performance when we see it.

Admitting that is not being a “bedwetter” , it is factual.

Ange has set the standard, when we fall below the standard it should be honestly admitted.

The reason we are not in blog depression is because of the huns result.

HH to all, the journey continues.

  3. Corkcelt @ 12.25 – That post was so eloquently put with compassion in mind.

On behalf of Big Jimmy thank you and hopefully he will be able to thank you himself soon enough but I dont think Paul67 really cares.

    D :)

  4. It’s been a long time since there was a head-to-head for the title, heading into March. Need to try and remember what it feels like. A bit like 2pm and 5pm yesterday. This is a completely new experience for anyone under the age of 25.

If form is temporary but class is permanent then we should be okay. Tom Rogic ranges from unplayable to get Rogic aff ! (after 20 minutes). Never really anything in between from the big guy.

Ange is an intelligent bloke and should have the nous to make the necessary tweaks to the team.

P67 mentions parallels between Ange and Wim. The ultimate parallel would see Ange leaving after a single season. Leaving as a champion. Stranger things have happened.

  5. Only my opinion, but having read the article I think Paul67 is trying to explain that reacting in hysterical way to a draw at Easter Road (2 wins in the last 9 in the league) is not helpful to Celtic’s cause. If every dropped point is a disaster the pressure on the team makes an improvement in performance less and less likely. It’s not like we don’t have enough people outwith the Celtic support doing their best to increase the anxiety.

Maybe he’s given up on reasoned intelligent argument to make his point and gone route one. There’s not exactly much sign that quiet words get listened to on here at the moment.

  6. Pebble in the pond time …

If we don’t win the league this season — for the record I think we will as we are the favourites now with 10 games to go — then if one event is ever used to describe our failure it will the pantomime that happened on 88 minutes yesterday.

Pinned back into a corner we manage to get a free kick.

5 yards from both the touch line and the goal line and we eventually arrange ourselves to allow JH to take the free kick.

That the delay before and the confusion after would end up with us giving away a corner shows how badly set up / prepared / emotionally resilient we are.

We looked over coached and under resourced to make decisions for ourselves where individuals in the team could see the correct way to respond but felt unable to convince their colleagues to do it — launch it long / away from our goal and fight to control the second ball with the team ready to press.

The comedy cuts of us trying to play it out from the back no matter what show a team that is ill at ease with itself and a coach who is a one club golfer far too used to getting his own way.

Not healthy for the team and provides an elementary lesson into our weaknesses and failures this season.

  7. Age thought the performance was good and we didn’t miss GG.

Beginning to sound a bit like our previous manager.

    Don’t insult us Ange.

  8. Looking back over the weekend I would have settled for our position before a ball had been kicked

However the dramatic loss of form and confidence is baffling

Yesterday was very similar to last season and I don’t blame opposition tactics that’s their business

One main factor is chopping and changing too much, don’t get me wrong I would have left out O’reilly yesterday for instance ,but maybe it is time to pick the best [11] and stick by them even if some have a off day

Next up St Mirren good display and result and the corner will be hopefully turned

    See Corkcelts post.

And make no mistake about it,you are using exclusion against someone who has been excluded via covid 19.from life in general.

It is crass and badly timed to exclude him.

Think on this Paul if it was not for your blog Celtic fans on your blog Jimmy would have been left helpless

    Thats forgotten,not to worry

Exclude our elderly while racism is rife on this blog.

You exclude while the racist rent boys of George galloway are allowed on this site.Do something about jhb and his merry band of trolls Paul, remember they came on with politics as their intention- not Celtic

Big Packy was banned.jimmy was following the rules til he was on.he reacted now he is excluded.

Do the honourable thing Paul and reinstate Jimmy.

Exclusion is not ideal here, especially as racism has found a berth on your site, ask the rancid poster who wrote Trump like of ‘Chinese plague’

Paul i ask you to reconsider

Refugees are welcome, racism has no place at Celtic

    Definitely not missing the patter.

Even my children have left the playground behind.

  11. To all who are wishing Big Jimmy good wishes, I have just spoken to the big man and he wants to thank all of you for your kind words and support.

To all other posters he wishes you all the best even the ones who disagree about him being innocent.

  12. To get us away from more internecine discussions.

GlaxoSmithKline plc (GSK) today announced that the new company, to result from the proposed demerger of Consumer Healthcare from GSK in mid-2022, will be called Haleon.

Haleon (pronounced “Hay-Lee-On”) is inspired by the merging of the words ‘Hale’, which is an old English word that means ‘in good health’ and Leon, which is associated with the word ‘strength’.

The new logo has a green band in it.

I suspect the unseen hand of a highly placed Timothy.

  13. I think Giaka would have got on the end of1 or 2 crosses on Sunday.

Even holding the ball up to bri g players in.

Hope he is fit for Wednesday

  14. D66 @ 1.50

Is my invitation to the next big BJ inspired / managed swally event still in the post?

The postman would seem to be running late today …

  15. I think a lot of supporters understand the circumstances in the league that surround our club.

With the exception of deadco every team plays the same way. Ten behind the ball.

The mighty Hibernian added a new dimension by lying down at every chance and wasting time from minute one. I assume that their supporters are happy to pay to witness such a spectacle. Where else is there a league where a team in forth place plays these kind of tactics at home and only against one team?

I only find myself concerned if we are unable to beat these tactics and in the last few games we have looked like running out of ideas against this dreadful football disease.

Ange is not stupid. His best weapon is injured and we have had to move on without him. Indeed our results and progress have been all the more remarkable without Kyogo. I was unhappy yesterday seeing GG missing from the lineup – I knew we would struggle to score without him.

Yesterday was not surprising for me at Easter Road but when was the last time deadco were 2-0 up at Mordor and didn’t win? Doesn’t happen often i’ll bet.

There are a lot of nervous minutes ahead, by the end of this my bed will be floating round the room,

its become pretty clear that Paul67, JHB and Ernie Lynch are the same person.

    ——

Quite frankly that is clearly nonsense, and you know it. What good you think that kind of input does for the blog?

With regard to anyone getting banned, I am totally against it as I am a strong supporter of free speech. No one should ever be censored, or indeed, personally attacked for their views, if expressed within the general rules of the blog. Disagreement is healthy, invective is not.

As for the particular gentleman in question, and speaking as someone who he would personally attack on a daily basis, I have no ‘axe to grind’ as I do not now read his content and am therefore unaffected by it.

Yes. Sorry, I didn’t mean to post that.

  19. The vast majority of our players, and this is the 1st time this has happened in 11 years, are not used to being under this kind of pressure to win every game and winning league titles and cups. It’s all new to them, and they need our support more than ever now. The crowd at easter road could have done with a few more Celtic team-related songs, and folks on here can criticise, that’s not a problem, as probably, no player reads what’s written in here :)) por cierto.

Ah…… the ole CQN bedwetters jibe.

Post an insightful tactical supporter’s critique in a game where Celtic clearly didn’t play well or wet the bed when Celtic don’t play well, its a waepon of choice. Ange’s continual present day rotation didn’t make us unbeaten since September picking his best side did, even through injury did pairing CCV and Starfelt is one of the few constants and made us the have the best defensive domestic record. Sort the midfield at Lennoxtown and stop experiments, Maeda is wasted wide, and scored from the inside right channel with his first chance, and he’s scored again from the same position with one of too few outswing crosses that come in.

Anthony Ralston should be in, as he was the form full back before his injury Juranovic was anonymous again yesterday more so when switched to the left. Play the team the team that’s going to win at Livingston but select them verse St Mirren.

Play your best eleven, the bench is for fresh legs.

    🙋‍♂️Hi CORKCELT! 😊 🍀

I lurk here often, and often lurk in and straight back out, but rarely post now. 🙄

Your support of BIG JIMMY in response to him possibly being Red-Carded and your humanity in understanding some of BIG Jimmy’s needs does you, and the remaining true Celtic Supporters on here great Credit!

Perhaps if Paul67 invited BIG JIMMY back onto the BLOG, and Red-Carded everyone he ever labelled as a CHUMP, the CQN experience for the remaining true Celtic Supporters on here might be much enhanced? 🤔 😊

I don’t know BIG JIMMY and nor have I ever corresponded with him, and I enjoyed a lot of his posts, but I wish him God’s Blessings in whatever trials he is going through! 🙏 👍😊🍀

    Yours in Celtic,

Can I ask, you defend Celtic playing the ball around our back line, and retaining possession

    Thoughts on yesterday ?

Joe Hart comes outside the box, still inside our 6 yard line though, to take a free kick, passing the ball forward 5 yards to Carl Starfelt, who plays it back, After a couple of other passes, not getting beyond our 6 yard line area, but with Joe Hart still outside the box, we concede a corner.

Tell you what I need a nappy when Celtic play stupid passes like that, drawing the opposition right on top of us, with no keeper inside our 18 yard box

Sometimes it works in retaining possession – at others like yesterday quoted we need to clear our lines.

  24. PS – big Jimmy, put your feet up and take care, then enjoy your day out on Friday

Thanks for calling out the Chumps 👍
