Being formed by immigrants still has power to shock

1162

A club formed by the Irish immigrant population sends best wishes to Scotland and Ireland. Read all about it! It’s as though our heritage still has the power to shock. How timely the outrage came hours before Celtic launched their “We are Celtic – and we say No To Racism” initiative.  This morning Scott Brown reminded us, “Celtic has been a club open to all people since its formation in 1888”.  Stick to task, Celtic.

Congratulations to our former boss, Martin O’Neill, in getting the Irish to at least the knock-out round. Commiserations to our other former boss, Gordon Strachan. Gordon will be feeling sore right now but he should lick his wounds and stick to task. He got the better of Ireland on their head-to-head and came within a whisker of also getting the better of Poland. The loss in Georgia was typical Scotland – you cannot change everything in two years, while Ireland taking four points from six off Germany is inexplicable.

Gordon is by far the best man to take Scotland the World Cup 2018 qualifiers; get on with it.

Imbecile…. I have been called that for years….

Is your love or following of Celtic just on a performance level ?

    Just asking

  3. H/T,

Hope you and those who still post on here persuaded those who have left to return. CQN needs every last one of them.

Sad for the likes of Nir Bitton who will not grace the European Finals next summer. But delighted for Celtic. Ronny’s lhads are going to be a delight to watch.

  4. My earliest memory of Celtic was waiting on my grandfather coming back from work ( digging drains ) on a Saturday – about 2pm – after he’d had a couple up at the Labour Club in Castlemilk. Then listening to the wireless as my granny served up some mince – with the biggest amount of tatties I’d ever seen ! They both had the passion and thankfully they shared it with me.

Fine words from you earlier. As a relative newcomer and somewhat infrequent poster you have always made me feel welcome on the blog even when sometimes it feels like a bit of a clique. And at CQN 5’s as well. You always remember the guys who made you feel welcome when you get involved in something new.

Ps . you better get me a ticket for Hearts if i don’t get one, only 1400 I’m told. Details on the website Monday/Tuesday HH

I believe our coach has made us a better team than it was when he had it for a year say, I bet his first year blew him away, things take time, and he will be given it, I think.

The quality of players that wear the hoops will vary from time to time, gone are the Big Cup winning days, nostalga doesn’t pay the bills sadly, so we maybes don’t have the players we would hope, but they do their best, good enough for me.

Completely understand your attitude regarding family life,it

will always come first and that is why i’m here in Oz, after a

lifetime of looking for and finding work anywhere in the

world and not seeing much of my son growing up i was

determined to be here for the grandkids.

Talking about peeing rain, was playing with the wee fhella

on the local soccer field yesterday trying to hit the crossbar

i was winning when down it came, one of those Aussie monsoon

downpours i ran for the car but he just kept on trying to hit the

    bar, hates losing at anything.

    Must be a Celtic thing.

Probably not an adjective that I would use but drawing in Amsterdam and drawing with Fenerbache (after leading in both games) each to their own, I just love Celtic good, bad or indifferent….. But as I have been known to be a happy clapper I know ther are far more important things in life that the adjective you used and a game of football…. Each to their own

Celtic is Celtic…… If you fancy a bit of entitlement there is a new club over in ago an than love entitlement

  12. Tet over recent years I have watched the standard of football at CP fall to a level where playing one striker is now considered a clever tactical ploy. This is no longer a Celtic I know. HH

You are doing a grand job

  14. Maybe the 10 minutes in the bin for a yellow card that applies in rugby should be applied to football ?

It would put an end to the Mourinho style serial fouling that goes on.

Still, it would quadruple the amount of cheating that goes to get an opponent carded.

I read a book about Enron which, while interesting, needed one to concentrate. It used a phrase a lot – each new set of regulations were hampered by Enron’s traders ‘gaming the systems’.

I didn’t really realise what it meant until i thought of football. Any new rule brought in has coaches thinking of ways to use it and not for it’s original intention.

    Good Evening CQN

I have had a great day today as I met so many good fholks at BMCUWP hootenanny. Tonight we collected over £500 for Wee Shay thanks to CQN salesmen Doc and Bundoran Bhoy and indeed the generosity of so many CQNers in respect of CQN badges and cufflinks.

What a fine night! Thank you CQN. Too many to mention but you all know who you are! I will however say a wee hello to Philbhoy’s daughter Olivia. A little princess amongst as all.

I hold guys like you in the highest esteem. I know that you’re of an older generation where Celtic was looked upon as a scourge on our society.

I’m aware that criticism of our club will hurt you but I genuinely hope that you understand that anything I post is actually in the best interests of our club.

    ————————————————————————-

I think the current team do play with attacking intend – unlike almost all of their SPFL opponents. Obviously we don’t play with 2 strikers. But let’s assume we did. Would that be it? Is that “progress”? All problems solved?

  25. G64

As I said, nostalga is just that, it’s in the past, times change, football changes, feck me, the huns are dead ffs, who would have thunk it, and chasing the Big Cup killed them, times do move on, and I bet Ronny and the others don’t give a flying feck if football is played like they did in days of yore, it’s a matter of survival just now, everyone fighting for the £ and the $, every penny a prisoner, hopefully we will have a team to support when our weans and their weans are around to enjoy it, we have, and we have gone through some barren times, this time, is in a weird way a barren time, but we will stick with it, bitch on the blogs, in the pub, at work, whatever, but we either put up with it or not, it’s what we do.
