Being formed by immigrants still has power to shock

1162

A club formed by the Irish immigrant population sends best wishes to Scotland and Ireland. Read all about it! It’s as though our heritage still has the power to shock. How timely the outrage came hours before Celtic launched their “We are Celtic – and we say No To Racism” initiative.  This morning Scott Brown reminded us, “Celtic has been a club open to all people since its formation in 1888”.  Stick to task, Celtic.

Congratulations to our former boss, Martin O’Neill, in getting the Irish to at least the knock-out round. Commiserations to our other former boss, Gordon Strachan. Gordon will be feeling sore right now but he should lick his wounds and stick to task. He got the better of Ireland on their head-to-head and came within a whisker of also getting the better of Poland. The loss in Georgia was typical Scotland – you cannot change everything in two years, while Ireland taking four points from six off Germany is inexplicable.

Gordon is by far the best man to take Scotland the World Cup 2018 qualifiers; get on with it.

You did suggest I could only find one example, so I was just obliging you. It was agreed here yesterday, once and for all, that Martin was a miracle worker, ok?

And ‘dragging out’ videos from those wonderful times isn’t pointless for me.

    I’m fair enjoyin’ them.

Oh and Martin, with no Henke, didn’t do too badly the other night, did he?

Only the World Champions he was playing right enough.

And don’t mistake my defence of MO’N for an attack on Ronny. It isn’t.

  3. My earliest memory of watching the fantastic Celtic was at muirton park when I recall this sea of green and white in the sun and a blur of constant attacking football and goals. Those were the days my friend.

This debate being taken out on one context and into another. MON was a great manager for Celtic, end of story. Good too see him to doing well with Ireland too as with all ex players and managers.

  5. Our manager is a good guy and a great comunicator but I’m not sure he gets Celtic. His tactics are mince.

That’s a shocker, mate. I put my baccy in my back pocket-usually that’s where my phone is.

I’ve still got my phone,I went nearly 90 minutes without a smoke. Seems we might have had a bad ‘un in our midst.

First time for everything-but it was the first time meeting quite a few people too. Yourself included.

    A minor irritation-aye,right,I was effin gasping!-on a magic day.

I hope it hasn’t put you off, mate. Me,I canny think of anything that would put me off meeting the troops.

Grateful thanks to one and all.

  10. I had to miss volunteering for the hootnanny because of hospital visiting duties (back again tomorrow) but I am sure there would be good craic and harmony when people have to come face to face with each other.

Good luck to all who attended and better luck next time to those of us who did not manage to get there.

And now a wee bit of music. I first heard John Platania in the Edinburgh Playhouse when he was with Van Morrison’s Caledonia Soul Orchestra. Here he is playing a Chip Taylor song “I will be standing” as background to a Tom Russell prose poem- it works for me.

I could see it fae the bliddy Celtic End!

Referee two feet away,we turned the Celtic End blue. For about twenty seconds.

    Then…

Big breaths, that the best you can do,lets effin do these b……s,Celtic.

And we did. I’ll never forget the feeling when Colin Jackson scored my favourite ever Celtic goal. They were out on their feet. And so were we. It was like park fitba, next goal the winner.

Murdo’s goal was a peach,of course it was. But I didnae celebrate it like I did the one from Jackson.

    (Too bloody knackered,tbh…)

Pleasure meeting you too, mate. You need to get addicted again. It’s a hard habit to break, but an easy habit to enjoy.

Aye,correct. But each of us would have assisted if asked, and would have felt all the better for doing what anyone would do for someone in need. Instead,we feel slightly miffed.

  13. Mick,

Am trying to convince myself it wasn’t 1 of ours…..sad fact is.I left my bag inside with one of ours….I found it outside with one of ours….unzipped…..missing it…..doesn’t really overshadow my nite…..how can it …..I met Roy Croppie ;-))

Ha ha. I still have a daily habit. Whilst I like to bore folk in person, I’m not sure the wider blog is interested in what I think :-)

  17. Ok. Ronny Deila out……or in…… Depending on what everyone else thinks :-).

In all seriousness though,we do need cover at left back.

  18. Here’s 1 to ponder……if, as johnjames, philmac etc r saying is true, how does the FTSFA respond – 10 points deduction for a first admin event…..or 25 points deduction to keep the continuation myth…..or hav the FTSFA changed the rules?

    H.H.

  19. Lurkin. I think we all know it will be the number of points the ensures that Sevco can still get promoted and that suits the required narrative. Rules are intentionally flexible.

    Nitenitecsc

  20. Penfold,

The narrative is shite…..it will b 10 points…..giving all who wonder an answer….Sevco The Rangers International Football Club, r a new club ;-))

  21. Fred C. Dobbs,

Thanks for the link to the Naka video. The guy was World Class IMO, I disagreed with where WGS deployed him, though it being Scotland I can understand why.
