Bernabei window. Good luck to old foes in CL

411

It is perhaps just as well Greg Taylor has had such an impressive start to the season.   The alleged offence Alexandro Bernabei was arrested for yesterday will not enhance his chances of integrating into Scotland or the Celtic defence.

He is 21 years old, a long way from home and has a lot more money in his bank than ever before.  It is a heady cocktail.  Ange Postecoglou is experienced enough to know how to best deal with the player, how the season progresses is very much up to Alexandro.

After Hearts on Sunday, Celtic are away to Dundee United and Ross County, the latter in the League Cup.  Alexandro should be hoping to make his competitive debut during those two away games.  If he misses this window, he’s unlikely to make an appearance until after games against Newco and our first Champions League tie of the season.

Best of luck to old foes Bodo/Glimt and Copenhagen in Champions League qualifiers tonight.  Good to see honest teams that live within their means prosper.

  4. CAMUSBHOY @ 2:14 PM,

Well, it could well be, I don’t really follow English football, my understanding is Leicester City need a rebuild – that’s not how I saw things at that time with Celtic.

Some players were moving on and needed replaced by better players who fitted the system, four in, half a dozen out, job done.

Still I’ve always looked at things differently -Many years ago a cousin of mine who knew me inside out, gave me a book and said, read it, this guy is you – the book, The Outsider:)))

    AN TEARMANN @ 2:32 PM,

All’s good thanks, hope things are well with you.

Yes, no doubts, thankfully as things stand DD seems content to stay on the golf course and let the football men at Celtic to get on with it.

There is a phenomenal attitude at Celtic at the moment, long may it continue, I’m loving our football and really believe Ange can take us to the next level.

Yes, that explains one of the five games where we play catch-up. The others? Hmm..

  11. Turkeybhoy:

3 examples I found in a 5 minute Google search:

    French Eddy:

“I wasn’t comfortable with English, so if you add a Scottish accent it’s three times harder to understand. At the beginning, it wasn’t easy, I only felt good at the club. When I arrived I was at the hotel, while I found accommodation. When I came back to my hotel and it was time to eat, I didn’t know what I was doing. I had the menu, but I didn’t understand. I had random meals and sometimes the meals were weird, it was complicated. The worst dish? Some vegetables I have never seen in my life. I had the menu and I used Google Images to understand and see the dishes.

    Barkas:

“It all happened very quickly. But then the coronavirus came and the situation was difficult on a day-to-day basis. I regretted that decision because things didn’t turn out the way I thought they would. But you can’t know beforehand.

“What saddens me is that some money was spent on me and I didn’t feel the investment. I didn’t feel I was an important part of the team. But it may not even be the team’s fault. It was a Covid year, everything was different. The first six months I didn’t know my teammates, we were in different locker rooms.

    Duffy:

It was hard enough dealing with what had happened to my dad, but I also didn’t get to see my kids for a year because I couldn’t fly to Ireland to where they were. It was a lonely time and maybe it did affect me on the pitch.

Clearly COVID had an impact on Barkas and DUFFY, but what we ended up with is an entirely predictable scenario where two players arrived in lockdown and felt lonely and isolated which wasn’t addressed. French Eddy’s situation was in some ways worse – we left a £9m asset/athlete to eat all sorts of rubbish!

Maybe we’re massively improved as AT suggests, but we’ve certainly not been renowned for pushing the boat out to help our new guys settle.

Not sure you would be my first choice but thanks for the offer.

Always wanted to meet someone from the Diplomatic Service.

Hopefully you don’t pass too many empty houses.

  13. Spidey101 it doesn’t look good on that reading although as you say two are more about COVID.

I would have thought that Celtic would have a couple of houses that we could use for new signings, would be cheaper long term than hotel accommodation

  14. Bhoyjoebelfast on

….forgot to mention english league were playing scottish league and the english (football league as they were known) kit was mislaid so Celtic to the rescue.Scots won 3-2 1961.

  15. Chairbhoy thanks for the reply, agree that there are different circumstances but it is strange that Leicester are the only team in the EPL that have not made any signings

It’s almost as if they don’t trust the manager……

Just an observation from the outside

  16. Sp2 @ 4.08

I fear your digging is the reality not the happy clappy stuff from the Board Fandans.

Cannot believe that we don’t have a network of “Safe Houses” for players coming in.

A couple of pet estate agents / letting agents on speed dial that would be able to sort something out at the double for above market rents — close to where other players live or close to people from the club.

The big driver here seems to be relationships — if you turn up with a better half / bidey in / burd / wife then there are two of you to make the transition plus social norms point to a particular chromosome set being a bit more clued up at life in general.

If we are going to bring in talent at 17/18 for the B Team then we need to be ready to help them adjust / integrate.

Not sure if the club is on the case with this age group but poor at a slightly older age group who they think can handle it on their own as they will not be short of cash.

No matter– I think work needs to be done.

When BR was here — I am sure he was on the case to rent out a house.

I had a suspicion that you might get the answer.

    Excellent.

  19. Rodgers’ time at Leicester is an interesting one to assess.

He did spend a fair bit of money but also promised to bring through young players.

He did bring some through but they either stalled or were sold for big money

He won a cup and was a whisker away from the CL twice. All pretty decent.

The problem in the last 2 seasons is that he can’t replace Vardy adequately and they can’t defend corners

If he was to walk now, there is no obvious team for him to go to in England. Man U job has passed him by twice. Chelsea too

  20. Hot smoked

I certainly think we should have played first on flag day – but we dance to the sky schedule

  21. BR @ LC — I fear the elastic is about to snap.

He does make a difference to teams / squads — but he has no second gear.

The ManU miss this year must have been a sore blow to him.

Plus EH getting the NU gig.

Hate to think that time has gone.

  23. Not sure what RTE are at but they are showing the Hun game tonight,

I always have had a bad feeling that there is a Hun influence somewhere in the background there, if Almore takes a peep later he might have a more informed opinion.

Anyhow it brings me back a good many years ago, when RTE did exactly the same thing and the panel were in obvious discomfort, some guy on it was carrying on as if the Huns were our team and what they needed to do to get back in the game etc others were more circumspect but at the same time no one came right out & said they hoped the Huns were beaten,

I can remember being furious at the whole charade but thankfully the following Sunday some Journalist wrote a piece saying what the feck were RTE at did they not know that 99% of their audience wanted the Huns beaten.

Anyhow after all the years we have a rerun tonight, I’ll be listening to the panel with as much interest as watching the game.

If we are treated to a diatribe of Shoneenism , I will be first with my letter of complaint,

  24. On the Liverpool headbutt last night,my good friend Jim Scanlon summed it up great when he sang,

Virgin showed them in Europa run last season. Delaney was clearly wanting them to win as a British side (same as with us and English teams); Tommy Martin, the anchor , wound up Brian Kerr saying he a was a Rangers man (i’d heard that years ago). He got pretty angry and the directors clearly told them all to drop it.

    Was funny though

PS I think Tommy Martin’s dad or uncle is on CQN and said once that Tommy was a big Hoops man

There’s never a shortage of fans who’ll buy the SMSM sh*te or giving credence to rumours and thinking the worse, and here comes the BUT, if the traffic offence had been an orc I bet there wouldn’t have been a charge, it’s not beyond the realms of fantasy that the Scottish police may have noticed who it was and made him a target. Sounds outlandish if only to show how easy it is to make up pish
