Bernabei window. Good luck to old foes in CL

411

It is perhaps just as well Greg Taylor has had such an impressive start to the season.   The alleged offence Alexandro Bernabei was arrested for yesterday will not enhance his chances of integrating into Scotland or the Celtic defence.

He is 21 years old, a long way from home and has a lot more money in his bank than ever before.  It is a heady cocktail.  Ange Postecoglou is experienced enough to know how to best deal with the player, how the season progresses is very much up to Alexandro.

After Hearts on Sunday, Celtic are away to Dundee United and Ross County, the latter in the League Cup.  Alexandro should be hoping to make his competitive debut during those two away games.  If he misses this window, he’s unlikely to make an appearance until after games against Newco and our first Champions League tie of the season.

Best of luck to old foes Bodo/Glimt and Copenhagen in Champions League qualifiers tonight.  Good to see honest teams that live within their means prosper.

Was Dembele not here when Eddy signed?

When he came on loan intially, Moussa , Ncham, Boyata, from the seniors and Musonda and 2 other french speaking africas were here. But its well known they didnt like him so refused to speak to him or take him out at all, thats just the way it is.

On that loan deal, he played 29 games , scoring 11 goals.

Because of Celtics lack of emotional support and a poor hotel set up with a really poor menu, Odsonne lost weight, form and strenght in his legs, leading to not being able to jump for the ball.

At that point the lowest in his career he was dropped by the french national under 21s.

Odsonne then refused to move permanent to glasgow because of all the scarring this had on him. Celtic resorting to holding him hostage up a close in maryhill. Were Peter lawwell forced him to sign a confession, i mean a poor contract, and a low fee with PSG.

This sourful start to his career could well be seen as the catalyst for 4 seasons of indifferent blaise couldnt give a toss contributions to the celtic cause. Witness a poor return of 179 games , 88 goals, and diabolique missed chances against the rangers.

Celtic in turn were lucky to break even when the player was offloaded to crystal palace.

  2. CAMUSBHOY @ 4:21 PM,

There could be a number of factors in Leicester City’s lack of activity.

Certainly BR could be a big factor, Leicester have done pretty well in the transfer market and a number of their best players are attracting suitors, so could BR be putting his foot down about loosing his best players, could he be demanding money from sales is reinvested in the squad? Of course, it’s natural.

Also remember that the Owner of Leicester, who paid top dollar for BR and his team died tragically a few months later, while no doubt his son is carrying on with his father’s wishes his passion and long term interest in English football maybe significantly different.

CONEYBHOY @ 4:36 PM has a quality interesting post on the matter. Leicester City have punched way above their weight for a considerable time now – with no European football and an outside chance of a trophy, it could be their ambition is waning and in ironies of ironies Brendan does find himself in a mediocre club – where does his career go!?

Personally I think Man U would be a good fit – they have a reputation as a top, top Club but as I’ve pointed out before they only have had two successful managers in their history (both Scots of course). BR as a man who knows the ins and outs about running a football Club, as Fergie and Sir Matt surely did, may well be their saviour.

Still, I’m happy we have Ange, a better fit for Celtic in many ways.

Instances like this will happen again, how we support ? And what we do to Foster things to a positive conclusion

  4. PSV is about as difficult as a CL play off gets. I didn’t draw too much from their result last week but if they see off PSV, then we’re up against a very good side this season. Let’s see.

    Wow, thats some list.

If Fergus was still about he would need to change his bus stop quote to a garage 😆😆😆

Talking about Fergus,, such a maverick and eccentric character. I would imagine him ruffling some feathers if he posted on here.

Which brings me to mind of another quote by the visionary financially savvy man.

” You can’t live on the hope of a Television contract and play in a stadium with nobody there ”

Maybe Kilmarnock would do well to heed his words.

    HH.

  9. LionsRoar – you seem unreasonably upset that I’m questioning the support the club provide to players. I’m not suggesting the club are cold to players just that there’s clearly previous instances where better support could have been provided. For instance, with the Eddy example, our sports science people should have been sorting out his diet rather than leaving him to order room service pizza and chips every night!

Given the investment we make in the players and potential windfall we could get selling them on I don’t think it’s unreasonable to suggest that we offer bespoke integration and support when they arrive rather than leave it to Mrs ML, Biton or folk we hire as interpreters to do that job!

  10. Corkbhoy

Didn’t know that but i like Kerr’s analysis and he is a big St Pats fan

The wind up was hilarious; still can’t remember which CQN guy was Tommy’s dad

  11. It’s interesting the weight we are applying to nationality on settling in

When i moved internally from Scotland to England, there was about 15 of us, instant social group

My pal said about 3 years later; ‘have we integrated?’

I said ‘aye’ see what did there?, we have loads of English pals and the girls certainly like us

He said ‘ do you ever phone any of the English lads when sorting a night oot’

    ‘Naw’

A comfort zone is not always good overall

  12. Spidey,

you seem unable to comprehend that the club does all these things correctly, but people are individuals and you can tell them all you want, but if eddie wants peeza and chips that his chocice.

Mrs Lustig, explained her own mental health challenges. 5 years after arriving at celtic.

Not her husband not being able to settle in, but her herself missing home.

I dont believe the support network for new arrivals is not there.

The plc is very dilligent in looking after player welfare, some individuals just cant cope, cant be helped , other than stepping away.

Personaly I do believe there are HR policies and processes in place, that will include buddies, reporting line checks, bosses trained in what to look for regarding mental health, wellness teams looking out, reaching out to others, players have commented on leadership qualities of Scott, Callum, Michael himself,

why wouldnt that extend to Bitton helping his young countryman ? I am sure it becomes a badge of hour to help out,

The whole duty of care to employees at sports clubs has moved on massively since Stan worked on the van.

A first-hand account from the bunnet it’s a wee story involving Fergus, and an international star signing

Agent and player complaing of Celtic /Fergus not fulfilling the contract, cue Fergus waving receipts for all kinds of expenses such as hotels, taxis, meals, and of course players’ salary payments, Fergus asks them to show me where Celtic are not meeting the contract in full

Player and agent had managed to have SMSM bad mouth the bunnet in the media accusing him of telling untruths, the bunnet demands to know what untruths

The Player wanted his salary Netto, no tax Fergus/Celtic to pay tax, cue Bunnet meltdown, players and agents sell any old pash to media for money

  22. Saint Stivs,

I do get that people are individuals and make their own choices. I just think that as a club we could be doing more to help. I posted a comment from Ange a few mins ago which suggests that while we may have had all those things in place it wasn’t until around September/October (a couple of months ago Ange said in January) that we appointed a couple of player liaison guys. With that being the case I accept that someone probably has helped AB to settle in and it’s simply his choice not to follow the advice.

More broadly, it’s an example of something I’ve mentioned before – that as a club we could be doing more. It’s taken Ange’s arrival to sort lots of things out – player liaison guys, analysts, sports science guys, putting McManus in charge of bringing youths into the first team, bringing in players to fit the system and doing it early. It’s taken a guy who’s cv includes Australian and Japanese football to start to modernise the way the club operates and bring a culture of excellence in all we do, which suggests that perhaps we haven’t been (and may still not be given it’s early days of Ange’s time) the well run club that seeks to be “Champions League standard in all we do” that some have suggested we are.

  25. LionsRoar,

That’s great in theory, but really our nutritionist should have been on to the hotel chef to say “you’ve got one of our players there, here’s his meal plan can you sort it out”.

Instead it’s a fine in theory situation leaving Eddy saying “yeah Pam, Rob, I ordered what I thought was the chicken but they brought me something they called a “deep fried Mars bar” and some random vegetables”
