Bernardo bang on plan

254

Paulo Bernardo’s signature on a loan-to-buy-option concluded Celtic’s business last night. It follows the same scouting, recruitment and commercial path established with Jota two years earlier.

At 21, he is bang on plan. If Celtic are to make a significant leap forward, we will not do it with mid-20s honest pros. Talent needs to be on the cusp of maturity, with world-class development added.

It would be an interesting move to start Paulo tomorrow, but a place on the bench isn’t out of the equation.

Welcome to Celtic, Paulo.

I’m seldom confident ahead of Ibrox and tomorrow is no different. The game is perhaps a few weeks early for us.  Still, we have a manager and squad that know how to win there. Nothing to lose, Celtic.

Round up on the window next week.

LUIS PALMA is FINALLY on BET365 Goal Scorer list.

LUIS is 4/1 to Score at ANYTIME V The Mankies.

LUIS is 40/1 to Score TWO Goals v the Mankies.

We do NOT KNOW who will be in the Celtic starting X1 Today, maybe LUIS PALMA will start…then again…maybe NOT ?

    I havent got a SCOOBY..

5 of the Lisbon Lions were 23 and under

intrigued, who was the youngest lion then ?

    ……………..

The late GREAT BOBBY MURDOCH was the youngest of The Lisbon Lions.

He was the FIRST one to be taken in 2001.

    My Favourite Celtic player.

  3. Good Morning Timland – Grand Day For A Skelping

    SFtBs @ 10:47 PM,

You see it as somehow – somebody at Celtic pocketed the money .

    What an outlandish comment

You really don’t get this moneyball thing or your being a wee bit obtuse

    Forget about football, think business

At 21, he is bang on plan. If Celtic are to make a significant leap forward, we will not do it with mid-20s honest pros. Talent needs to be on the cusp of maturity, with world-class development added.

In footballing terms if your team were going to make a significant leap forward why would mid twenties honest pros be less desirable than 21 y.o. development players?

If anything you’d think the opposite right?

Now, where Celtic is in bold, don’t think Celtic FC

Think Celtic PLC, then read it, it makes perfect sense

Get a young prospect in, put him on a five year contract, world class development, experience in a trophy winning team and elite European competitions and if it works out you make many multiples of the transfer fee when you sell him.

You have seen it work with O’Riley a 10 mn plus player

Abada has signed a new contract how much is he worth next summer?

    That’s where the money is

For me we need a mix of approaches for the “model”, to cement together the best football team

    Hail Hail

  4. BURNLEY78 @ 11:32 PM,

Yes, obviously Ange had, like Brendan, bought into the plan, at least partially.

“Having someone with his experience come in helped us. With someone on loan, it is all about asking whether they are going to play and whether are we going to sign them at the end of the season.

“I was keen to bring in Yuki Kobayashi and that came to fruition. Then it became a discussion about what was best for Moritz and we agreed it was best for him to see if there were any opportunities elsewhere.

At the end of the day we could have done with Mercedes for the run in, obviously Ange thought Kobayashi was good enough to come on and do a job for us.

He ended up playing Iwata as a CH…

This is a crucial game, can’t see past the good ghuys

  6. Find myself in agreement with the huddle breakdown guys. Let them have the ball.

They create very little and this will negate their biggest threat today – their press.

Sit in, let them flounder trying to play football as the crowd get more and more impatient.

  7. Celtic Mac

I do know the history well and the trilogy you mention.

    I referenced the Kenny D game. 3-2

The other 2 were league cup section games. I thought I made it clear I was speaking about league and Scottish cup.

  8. The thought of Turnbull and Abada starting today is giving me palpitations, every player needs to turn up today and those two don’t fill me with confidence

  10. judgement day is upon us. will we be celebrating or will 50000 sevconians be singing “there’s only one peter lawwell” and “pete must stay”.

  11. The other day, someone posted a set of results v Sevco that certainly didn`t flatter us. So , for the sake of balance, here is another statistic:

However, no Celtic manager can better Rodgers’ 70% win rate against Rangers in the league (W7 D2 L1).

    BBC

After today, oday, I think the stats will read: W7,D3,L1.

Each to their own but I find a post such as the above awful.

  13. CELTICBHOY73 – a midfield of Calmac, DT and MoR does not work unless opposition is particularly weak. No strength, no dig, no aggression. But without Reo being fit few other options. Brendan does not seem to rate Iwata and the new guys are probably too new for Ibrox.

    Fingers crossed.

  14. Just for the record, and nothing more, re earlier exchange between Burnley78 at12.12 and Celtic Mac 1.37

Celtic beat Rangers 2-0 at Ibrox in February 1957 in a Scottish Cup replay, then nine months later

beat them 3-2 at Ibrox in a league game. Four weeks later, we won a 7-1 at Hampden on October 19th. This meant that we had scored 10 goals against them within the space of a calendar month, and 12 within the calendar year. So, it wasn’t all doom and gloom, but mostly. We started to win quite regularly at Ibrox from the late 60s, the first in August1968, I think…

Praying for a win, but a draw today will do me just fine. 0-0, so I don’t have to suffer the angst if they score.

    Hail Hail

me too. a win would be great but i would take a draw.

    Feck the draw!

We go there to win and crush them into the dirt.

    Mon Brendan’s Bhoys!

    Intae these orc bassas! 😃⚽️🇮🇪🏆🏆🏆🍀

Officials and their ahem ‘officiating’ is my biggest worry. They’ll foul with impunity and get free kicks for feck all. Their players also go down when breathed on, which seems to work for them.

Set pieces, crosses from Tav to their big donkeys and the ref are their biggest threats.

    1-3 the hoops! 😃👍🍀⚽️⚽️⚽️🇮🇪

  16. Hot Smoked

Agree, something tells me score draw today.

Would accept that. We’ve plenty time to stuff them throughout the season.

    Enjoy the day, all

No idea what team you support but one thing is for sure Lawwell, due to the success he has had at Celtic,, lives totally rent free in every sevco fans head even more so than in the bitterest of our own malcontents. The last thing they would sing is that. They see him as the architect of all they have endured.

  18. My Team would be

    Hart

AJ – Nat Phillips – Lagerbelke – Taylor

    McGregor

    Bernardo – O’Riley

    Yang – Kyogo – Maeida

    1-2 the Hoops

    Gie’s peace wi this draw sh*&e! :))

    por cierto

  19. Gingernut

Thanks. We didn’t win in the league or Scottish cup in the 60s I don’t think but did in league cup.

I wasn’t aware of the 50s cup replay. He never mentioned that to me and is no longer with us. It maybe it was a night game which he could rarely go to due to work.

The certain facts are from the 30s to early 70s we didn’t win a league game there. 40 brutal years. The contest to my fortunate time as a fan could be more stark.

    Thanks again for clarifying.

  20. Wonder if our coaches felt it worthwhile to practice attacking and defending corners this week because last week was as bad as it gets. 19 corners and not a sniff of a goal. St J nearly scored with the first one they got.

  21. Por Cierto – good lineup but anyone know when Phillips last played a game? If not match fit it would be a hell of a gamble. Then again, Scales would be too.

  22. Hello again all you young rebels.

Finally got time to sort out my gremlins on CQN

That’s with a little help from my granddaughter Grace, 9 years old

    coming on 19.

Still had a lookin most nights after I get home from training, and

wondered what was going on, thought we were back in the early

60s when we couldn’t buy a feckin corner never mind a win.

The negativity was unreal, but was it from true Celtic supporters ?

    Don’t think so.

Anyhows, our local soccer club hosted the state championships

yesterday, that’s the various state league winners have a play off to

decide the ultimate champions, and guess what the St Kilda Celts

    we’re the supreme champions .

Can you imagine it, beautiful sunny spring day, 21 degs , big crowd

and the hoops looking glorious, I was in paradise.

Watched the games with Scott McDonalds dad John, and needless

to say he just can’t get over helicopter Sunday when his bhoy scored

to let the hun win th…. feck it , don’t need to remind anyone.😡

Noticed a young lhad at our game yesterday with a black Celtic top

with Tillio on it, now I’ve never seen this bhoy play but I think Quadro

from this dear green place has, so as you do , I asked him, is he any

    good ?

Explosive was his reply, so who am I to argue until I see him play.

Right! time to get the Rid Biddy oot the bhoys are on shortly, I believe

they’re playing a mob who are trying so hard to be relevant, what will

    the score be ?

Probably another 1-0 to the bhoys.

Big thanks to the mod and AT for keeping in touch.

    Just before I go.

Imagine at our game yesterday, checking out the dressing rooms, making

sure all the teams had everything they needed, we have the big ghetto

blasters as I call them, and the teams play whatever music they desire,

Dressing room 1 was, had to ask lol, Jay Z, Naw me neither.

Dressing room 2 was, Ed Sheeran, a knew that wan.

Dressing room 3 was some feckin rap.

Dressing room 4 the music of the gods, The bhoys of the Old Brigade

Guess who’s dressing room that was ?

    feckin place was rockin 🇮🇪☘️💚

    Right, let’s go bhoys.
