Bernardo bang on plan

254

Paulo Bernardo’s signature on a loan-to-buy-option concluded Celtic’s business last night. It follows the same scouting, recruitment and commercial path established with Jota two years earlier.

At 21, he is bang on plan. If Celtic are to make a significant leap forward, we will not do it with mid-20s honest pros. Talent needs to be on the cusp of maturity, with world-class development added.

It would be an interesting move to start Paulo tomorrow, but a place on the bench isn’t out of the equation.

Welcome to Celtic, Paulo.

I’m seldom confident ahead of Ibrox and tomorrow is no different. The game is perhaps a few weeks early for us.  Still, we have a manager and squad that know how to win there. Nothing to lose, Celtic.

Round up on the window next week.

“If Celtic are to make a significant leap forward”

    ————

    Is that really the plan?

  2. bournesouprecipe on

Pleased BR didn’t have a new keeper on his summer list of players, specialist one of a type positions require meticulous long term scouting at Celtic, and not a few ropey clearances in an off form defence. There were no names, in the rumour mill with better credentials than our vice captain whose influence transformed the position.

Brentford ( aye Brentford’s ) goalkeeper David Raya ( me neither ) is on an initial £3m loan deal with a £27m option to buy next summe. You don’t change your goalkeeper on the eve of a CL and Vassilas Barkas is the proof in the pudding.

Living in Scotland with his family still down south, outlines Hart’s continued dedication and professionalism. I imagine Brendan has a future plan, so long as he doesn’t get ‘emptied’ beforehand.

  3. Paul 67,

On this national Dan day today.. Happy national Dan day to all Dan’s.

I think your bedwetting article would have been more suited to today.

My daughters man is called Dan and usually quite presentable. . He is a bedwetter, especially when we go to Greyskull.

He has gone from Dapper Dan to Diaper Dan today.

    (From last blog…)

LOIS PALMA is STILL NOT on the Bookies Goal scorer Lists ( BET365 and BETFRED ).

Do these Bookies KNOW something that we don’t ?

NAT PHILIPS IS on the List at odds of 12/1 to Score at ANYTIME with BET365….but NO Sign of PALMA ?

    ######

Could Palma still require international clearance before he’s eligible to play?

I’m sure those upstanding chaps at Hampden are working day and night…

  5. Like you P67, I hope that Bernardo proves to be an asset to our team/squad/club.

But when you say ‘If Celtic are to make a significant leap forward…’ just wondering if you mean in terms of Euro success or financial profitability? Bernardo surely didn’t come her to build an entire life in gallus Glasgow but we are a renowned stepping stone of a club for these young elites we nurture.

PS: I have no worry about the huns game. The result will not determine who lifts the title in ’24.

We remain in decent overall shape with a great manager who is not here to see his stock plummet further.

Hate to break it to you, we sold Jota for a fortune and have gone backwards.

  7. “we have a manager and squad that know how to win there.”

    Are you sure Paul?

    BBC:

“Rangers have only lost one of their last seven home games against rivals Celtic in all competitions (W5 D1),”

  8. I was out already today, and witnessed two rather nice events. out and back to braehead

A big plane landed from the north side of the river, I am guessing the Emirates flight, but i could see it from as far back as the red smiddy roundabout, and it just floated in, a incrediblle engineering feat.

Big crowd to witness it as well I wondered if someone famous was on it or is it a special flight.

On return stopped in traffic at the normandy. another big crowd, what am i missing here.

well its doors open day, and the swing bridge got lifted, it is quite a site, goes quite high, whole thing took maybe 15 minutes, but i couldnt record it cos i couldnt find my phone this morning, so nice to see but i couldnt share with anyone.

i got home, and my phone pinged, it was under the seat.

    dearie me.

  9. Nothing to lose tomorrow apartt from:

    First place in the league.

Being behind in the title race.

    Bragging rights.

    Pride.

The sanity of a lot of the support.

No recourse to put it right for another two weeks because of the international break.

  10. how is it dan day ? what dan ? daniels or brendan’s ?

total speculative punt on my part , but watching our brendans pressers, maybe he just sits there thinking, these feckin eejit questions again, maybe they just do his nut in.

as an aside aside, the guy on shortie Mike Edwards, comes across as a know it middle class twat. and hunnish.

doensnt belive referees being in the masons would influence their perfromance in th epark, em, just because.

  11. 1950: Charlie Tully leaves Celtic on a free transfer.

“It took me three hours to decide on the Timaloys as opposed to the English glamour clubs…it had always been an ambition of mine to play for the great Scottish club!”

    Charlie Tully

“And Charlie Tully! Wonderful player, awfie man. My digs were in Rutherglen, Miss McGuigan’s, and Charlie would stay over if he had a drink in him rather than face the wife. I’ll never forget the first time he sat on the ball – against Rangers! No-one, as far as I knew, had ever done that before. Their players looked stunned. We all used to get given passes to games, and Charlie always played with them in the pocket of his shorts. If he was playing well he’d hand them out to the opposition: ‘Here, you’d be better off watching me from the stand.’ In a cup-tie at Falkirk he scored two goals straight from corners.”

  12. Watching the 2nd half of Sunderland (5) v Southampton (0).

Sunderland simply hungrier for the win; Saints going thru the motions.

Ergo, if we’re hungry for the win tomorrow…

Nice to see big Mogga’s young lads do the Stadium of Light proud and see his craggy big smile again.

  13. lets all do the huddle on

    load of jabby-watter

we could always sign 1 or 2 mid to late twenties established mature players who we know can drive us forwatd

instead of only players who are on the ‘cusp of maturity’ and so are much more of a gamble and a project

  14. I always laugh when I hear the crap about signing players in their mid to late 20’s – name one, go on, just one.

  15. bournesouprecipe on

No big move for Rocco ?

In a hurry for the big money, or or a hurry to get in the big team? Celtic appear to have hung on to Rocco Vata for the time being. Miles from first team squad oven readyness, the problem for these young players is where to be developed and it’s somewhere between the sporadic Celtic B team and the first team squad.

Advisors acting on their behalf have every justification in thinking their clients are better served elsewhere. Virtually impossible to keep everyone happy, keep all your home grown prospects, or make room for Benfica’s.

    Celtic’s call.

  16. SFTB

Whoever thought that showing Sheffield United v Everton would get us excited about today’s football to come?

Turned out to be a cracking game of football.

  17. lets all do the huddle on

I always laugh when I hear the crap about signing players in their mid to late 20’s – name one, go on, just one.

    not my job mate

  18. Rodgers said: “Oh is back in training so he will be available. The guys who were out slightly longer term will be back after the international break.”

  19. vata seems to me like he should have been out on loan, needs games in a more competative environment

  20. Speaking of Sheffield United v Everton.

The Toffees had a free-kick 20 yards out. The referee draws a line for United defenders. Seconds later, Everton players are protesting. Sheffield defenders are lined-up in front of the line.

So what does the referee do? He goes back and draws another line in front of where the defenders are standing.

  21. Speaking to die hard liverpool fan this morn, saying we’ll enjoy Nat Philips hes a good old fashioned no nonsense defender
