Best of luck Brendan and thanks for the trebles

914

If I’m being magnanimous, Brendan made no secret of the fact that he wanted to return to the English Premier League.  When he was here, he won everything available to him domestically and proved that you can please all of the people all of the time.  We want managers to be ambitious, honest and successful and that’s what we got.

It rankles that his timing was so poor, a day before we visit Tynecastle on league duty and five days before we visit Easter Road in the Cup.  Brendan saw little compensation in Moussa Dembele’s success here, or ambition, when he engineered his exit at a bad time for the manager, the same is true now.  Celtic knew nothing of this before yesterday and have a major job on their hands to ensure the quest for the treble treble remains on course.

Neil Lennon is likely to be announced as interim manager.  We are fortunate to have as an experienced hand available.  If anyone knows how to take a Celtic team to Edinburgh, it’s Neil.  Plans for next season will continue in the background, but Neil will be asked to deliver the treble and nothing will be allowed to distract him or the players from that objective.

I have heard from a few CQN’ers who are surprised today, but we should know better.  This is football, managers and players are highly paid professionals, all the badge thumping in the world does not change that.  Exceptions are rare.

Best of luck to you, Brendan, and thanks for the trebles.  You could have held out for better than Leicester, but there’s every chance you’ll keep them in the division for many years.

There’s always two sides to every divorce (with, perhaps the exception of lazydynamite :))) but I think there’s a lot of us out there who’ll take a bit of persuading that he’s not bullish!tting us again

    ——–

I agree that’s my point, I am not taking any sides, just very disappointed.

We have to regroup quickly and move on.

    Hail Hail

  2. Personally i’d take Brendan’s word over that of any of the board, current or past, all have previous on feeding us multitudes of mistruths ,false hope and B/S for longer than most of care to remember. Some even dobbed in sections of our support to the Police and others referred to us (The support) as ‘Criminally racist” Whereas Brendan will have only been telling us porkies for a couple of seasons at best and as far as I am aware he has never called a Celtic fan a racist or indeed criminal.

Why would Lennon want to come back to Celtic and work with a board that treated him so badly?

  4. One of the first times I ever posted on here was to vent my disgust at MON putting his name forward for the England job (still makes me shudder) about 2005. At the time I thought that was a let down.

Last night I totally dismissed the stories. What an idiot I am!! Time for unity behind the team now. Without it we could lose the league.

    D66,

I doubt he will say anything until there is wholesale change at the top of the Plc as any subterfuge could damage the club, even then he doesn’t strike me as the kiss and tell type.

I cannot argue with your view pal. Eye right off the ball on that one. The level “Old Firm” playing field that our board want so badly is looking more and more likely.

  8. My friends in Celtic,

Since NFL “resigned ” from us he has been mutually consented or binned from a few clubs.

Not for me. I will however renew my ST and support.

Not a good day for integrity then pal…..

  10. Brendan is a great coach but a poor human being it would appear.

He did fantastically well in Scotland but overall under performed in Europe.

His way of going will result in him being unwelcome at Celtic Park.

Whoever takes over will need our support as I would imagine the players are stunned and shocked.

Onwards to 8 and the Treble Treble!

Brendan’s legacy will be to be always associated with Judas in the eyes of the support. He left because he wanted to, he wasn’t pushed and he was backed by PL. All his badge kissing and wanting to leave a legacy were nothing more than playing to the gallery. No true Celtic fan would walk out of the club taking almost all the 1st team coaches 24 hrs before a vital away game. He showed his true colours at the end. Good riddance I hope he ends up relegating them but it won’t bother him with all his millions in the bank. Judas

IMO a couple of things. Firstly NFL is first and foremost a Celtic fan of UFB stock. Remember he took a big drop in wages to join us. As a fan I guess he couldn’t walk away and I assume he realises this is a stop gap and wants to help. Secondly he is out of work at present so it all fits together well.

    OneNight…,

I suppose his expectations are more attuned, I doubt he will be as easy to fool, life is so much easier when you know your dealing with liars, you tend not to get as stressed or let down when they live up to your expectations.

All of this contract will be related to winning and he knows the players he has till nthe end of the season they can’t be sold from under him till the end of the season, easy money really.

Celtic are a huge pull and for someone like Lenny impossible to turn down.

His options might be Celtic or nothing or Celtic or someone the fraction of the size. He’s in the right place, unemployed at the right time.

He might be the only winner from this mess.

Officially the only manager ever to walk out on celtic mid season in our whole history.

That’s your legacy you disgusting money grabbing traitor.

I went out for a run (jog – I’m 56) spent 40 minutes with this in my head. He has shaken me up and angered me today. How a man, so loved and revered by the support could do this. I’m left empty by it.

Sid- we will be winners as I believe that NFL will push on now and take us to a Treble Treble.

    Brendan Who????

Will be the question when we are on that open top bus.

  24. Did PL really say to Paul 67 say i knew nothing about it until yesterday?

That would make him a bigger disaster and more incompetent than I had cared to imagine.

It’s his job to plan for these things have his ear to the ground, know his staff’s mood and feelings and have contingency measures in place.

Has he just made the same mistake as he did with John McGinn thinking that professionals impressing and wanted by rich clubs owe Celtic enough they will be treated badly and accept it?

Add arrogance to a lack of judgement and meddling in managers affairs( yes i know for fact) to his other faults.

Whatever happened to the saying the buck stops at the guy at the top.

Does this not apply to PL to some on CQN?

    one thing about this ….

makes me reconsider the whole ‘BR was upset by Moussa Dembele’s disloyalty/forcing a move through’ thing…

as I understood it, MD’s move fell through, MD went all stroppy, and BR said ‘timing is awful because we cant get a replacement in, but if he isn’t going to be loyal, he has to go’ …

now, it sounds like BR has moved at an even more inopportune time…

so, has BR just changed his tune about loyalty, or was the whole MD thing made up (which is what I suspected at the time)?

He wasn’t backed to the extent he should have been.

Walking out now is disgraceful, but it doesn’t detract from the fact that the board didn’t back him to the extent they should have nor did they match his ambition.

  27. Very very disappointed and a bit surprised at this turn of events. Very poor timing and makes a mockery of all the nonsense he came out with about being a boyhood fan blah blah blah when he first arrived!

I fully understand his frustrations with Lawell (who should also bugger off IMHO!), but it is not as if Barca or PSG came hunting with an ultimatum. It was Leicester City FFS! A club that are mid-table EPL at best.

Well at least he won’t have to worry about his poor European record any longer…..that ship has sailed.

I will be grateful for the good times, but the manner of his exit will always leave his reputation tarnished in my book.

Hopefully Lenny can guide us to the treble treble and we can get the right man in during the summer and give him some cash to spend.
