Best of luck Brendan and thanks for the trebles

914

If I’m being magnanimous, Brendan made no secret of the fact that he wanted to return to the English Premier League.  When he was here, he won everything available to him domestically and proved that you can please all of the people all of the time.  We want managers to be ambitious, honest and successful and that’s what we got.

It rankles that his timing was so poor, a day before we visit Tynecastle on league duty and five days before we visit Easter Road in the Cup.  Brendan saw little compensation in Moussa Dembele’s success here, or ambition, when he engineered his exit at a bad time for the manager, the same is true now.  Celtic knew nothing of this before yesterday and have a major job on their hands to ensure the quest for the treble treble remains on course.

Neil Lennon is likely to be announced as interim manager.  We are fortunate to have as an experienced hand available.  If anyone knows how to take a Celtic team to Edinburgh, it’s Neil.  Plans for next season will continue in the background, but Neil will be asked to deliver the treble and nothing will be allowed to distract him or the players from that objective.

I have heard from a few CQN’ers who are surprised today, but we should know better.  This is football, managers and players are highly paid professionals, all the badge thumping in the world does not change that.  Exceptions are rare.

Best of luck to you, Brendan, and thanks for the trebles.  You could have held out for better than Leicester, but there’s every chance you’ll keep them in the division for many years.

    MIT,

BR was shoved out the door so the Plc could pick up the loot and have the support blame the victim, all the hallmarks of corporate machinations.

  2. Brendan could have blown the league, lost twice to Rangers in the league and got humped by rangers in the cup final in may and he could have walked out of Celtic for any mickey mouse English club at the end of the season as a true icon and legend in my eyes.

Its impossible to quantify just how much respect he has lost in the past 10 hours today.

    I am still stunned.

Don’t worry Bhoys and Ghirls – big game tomorrow.

Forget about people who turn their back on Celtic – in the dark of night, as they look back on things, they’ll be the people with regret in their hearts and torture in their minds.

We – all of us reading this blog and living our lives as Celtic fans – will remain Celtic fans – unsullied by sharing our passion and love for Celtic with any other club.

Feel pity for those who leave – for whatever reason. They are losing something in their lives they will never have again – to be part of Celtic.

They may not realise it right now, enamoured as they may well be by the glitz, glamour or money of Leicester, or Arsenal, or Old Rangers, or Norwich City – but they will when they have time to ponder their lives. Will they have regrets? You can take that to the bank !

On to important business – we need to beat the Hertz mob tomorrow. Me and Wee BGFC are drooling at the prospect of going through to Gorgie and scudding that poisonous mob – cannot wait for tomorrow.

All Celtic victories are a dagger through the black hearts of those who inhabit the dark, bigotted underbelly of Scotland – we have a job to do, so get right intae thum !!!!!

The biggest problem in all of this is that Celtic fans do not have a single source (with the exception of Catman and/or Lennybhoy) who they can unequivocally trust to tell them the truth about they club they support/pay for ….

but, on to more important matters …. Big Packy has been posted missing. Hey BP … post or send me an email to let us know you are alright.

  5. And what if Lenny delivers great performances and the treble treble, do we just wave him goodbye in the summer? Interesting times ahead.

  6. Brendan not slow in using the same platitudes when addressing the Leicester fans as he did with Celtic. Ah well. In Lenny we trust.

  7. Big Georges Fan Club - Hail, Hail, Wee Oscar on

And get the fekin ‘…privileged to be here…’ article to hell off the CQN site.

Talk about lack of awareness and poor timing – ffs !!!

Think about it, then think about the most vile implication, if he lied then did he mock Tommy Burns? never supported the club and used everyone, people here are buying into that. I’m more inclined to turn my gaze on those who have form for lying to the support.

  9. Guys my head has been reeling all day but I’ve had enough. Those who believe it’s all Lawell’s fault will not be swayed, I believe in all probability Rodgers was using us as a stepping stone and had always factored in a 3 yr stay, probably would have preferred to see out the season & go but when the mighty Leicester put the gun to his head, his new deal & salary hike was the deciding factor .

However regardless of who is right or wrong from now on I’m looking forward & not back, huge game tomorrow night now , really looking forward to it. Win our next 2 games & let the good times roll again.,

  10. My automatic default is to blame the board, in particular the CEO and there is no doubt the cracks set in during the summer transfer window when we failed spectacularly to get the Managers targets in.

However, on this occasion Brendan has shown that the argument that the board couldn’t match his ambition is false.

    He has no ambition.

    Only a quest for cash.

    Will win nothing at Leicester.

Will get the sack, probably in about 18 months.

In some ways securing the Treble Treble with NFL at the healm will be even sweeter

So, after BRexit we have the Irish backstop :-)

Not a great time of the year to be making an appointment, so can see why Neil coming in till the end of the season is probably making the best of a bad job.

Hopefully we will be looking at higher quality candidates as a permanent manager. We came a long way under Brendan and we should be looking for someone who can take what he did and develop it further. I don’t see that Neil or Steve Clarke could do that.

Come on Celtic – show some ambition and imagination.

  12. Usual suspects on here now trying to make out Peter Lawwell pulled a masterstroke by pissing off the best manager we’ve had in years to the point he to become the first manager in history to quit mid season

Aye, pure blinder Peter alright as Brendan smiles to the gallery.

“Together, we’ll be stronger and I’m looking forward to working with the players, staff and supporters to make the right steps forward.”

    Gut wrenching stuff.

NFL, surely we can do better. His cup record was shocking. Terrible appointment once again CEltic. We really are masters of our own downfall

  15. Not interested in Rodgers now. Selfish and spineless decision imo.

He is yesterday’s man. A coward.

Never a real Celtic man as he chose to take the earliest opportunity to walk away.

Real Celtic men stay and support the club no matter the level of adversity put in our way by those who would rather we did not succeed.

    Celtic is what matters.

It will be people like Broonie, KT, Jamesie, Tom Rogic, PC Lustig and Calmac that will secure this league.

    Best of luck to Lenny.

I don’t think he is the long term answer (unless Dermott Desmond has decided on an all out war on the SFA).

A win tomorrow night will be brilliant. Anything lost will be spun as us unraveling.

Celtic have far better players than our Scottish competitors.

Let them play and prove it.

  16. Has BR trully resigned as Manager of Celtic?, I’vw been watching the news channels all day and have never heard from BR s mouth that he will resign,I’ll wait on that conformation from BR before i’ll make a comment,

If it comes to fruition that he is departing Celtic, then I’ll be as sick as the vast majority of the support, when it comes from BRs mouth, I’ll believe it.

There is so much crap comes from the Scottish Press, I believe nothing that they say, good or bad.

Just heard the news that he has left. I better not carry on with my post as I may get barred for life.

  18. The same NFL who vigorously complained about Celtic having a 12th man.

I remember those who have left us and imo there is no way back.

    HH.

  19. Blaming the board, blaming PL is just a sad excuse.

PL never walked out on us.

Brendan did today all by himself.

One day in the future he will lay asleep in bed at night and deeply regret what he has done today.

How you end any major relationship in your life will always define you as a man.

Don’t even get me started on all the guff he spouted about Moussa Dembelle’s departure and atitude.

We feel bad?…can you imagine how our young team are feeling?.

    Brendan Rodgers knows this.

Hopefully the sight of Neil Lennon tommorow will cheer us all up.

I really really mean it when I say I would not want anyone else under these circumstances.

You can include pep guardiola and jose mourinho in that.

  20. Absolute disgrace.

    No morals, no loyalty, unprofessional.

He showed that his “love of Celtic” was as deep as a Bangkok hookers.

He is not short of a few bob.

Even if, and I doubt its the reason, he fell out with the Board, he could have stayed until the end of the season.

What about the young kids at Parkhead every week idolising him ? The kids who cant afford a Celtic top, kicking a ball around the the streets, living the dream of Celtic ruling the roost ?

He didnt give a crap. A Mé Féiner if ever there was one.

Any positives to come from this ?

I believe we have some excellent players at the club.

In my opinion, Neil Lennon is a very good manager, who should keep us on the road to the 10 in a row.

  21. Celtic statement

CELTIC Football Club today announced that Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers will be leaving the Club to join Leicester City FC. This is an opportunity which Brendan wished to take, with Leicester wishing to make this appointment immediately, and while we are extremely disappointed to be losing him as manager, particularly at this time, we sincerely wish Brendan and his family all the very best for the future.

Celtic Chief Executive Peter Lawwell said: “Brendan is a football manager of the highest quality and we are very disappointed to see him leave the Club. This is an opportunity he wished to pursue and that is something we have to respect.

“He gave the Club so much and has created so many wonderful memories for the Club and our supporters. His achievements are historic.

“When we appointed Brendan we knew we were bringing someone of the highest standard to Celtic. He has dominated Scottish football and ensured that Celtic has enjoyed unprecedented domestic success.

“I would personally like to thank Brendan for all he has given to the Club. He has been a tremendous ambassador for Celtic and I wish him every success for the future.”

Celtic Chairman Ian Bankier said: “Of course we are hugely disappointed to be losing a manager who has made such a fantastic contribution to the Club, and while we have done everything to keep him at Celtic, this is an opportunity within the English Premier League which he wanted to take.

“We were delighted to bring such a talented manager to Celtic and are pleased to have worked with Brendan for nearly three years. He, our backroom staff and our players have delivered phenomenal success to the Club and he leaves a fantastic legacy which we will always cherish.”

Brendan Rodgers commented: “It has been a real honour to serve the Club and its supporters across the past three seasons. I have been a Celtic supporter all my life and the reason I came to Glasgow was to work for the Club I had such love and affection for.

“From the moment I walked into Celtic Park I have been living my dream and, together with the players, staff and supporters, we have been on an amazing journey, which I will never forget.

“To be welcomed in the way I was on my first day at Celtic Park is something I will always treasure. From that day I have given my all to the role of Celtic manager. I would like to sincerely thank the Board at Celtic for giving me the opportunity to manage Celtic in the first place and for the support they have given me throughout my time as manager.

“It has been an absolute pleasure to work with Peter, Ian, Dermot and the rest of the Celtic Board, and together we have done everything we could to bring success to our supporters.

“I want to make a special mention to the Celtic players. They were an absolute pleasure to work with and I want to thank them all for the commitment and positivity they gave to my coaching philosophy each and every day. Every one of them will be a friend for life.

“Celtic is in great hands for the future and I am sure the Club is in a wonderful position to continue to dominate Scottish football and do well in Europe, I know that will be the aim of everyone at the Club.

“Celtic will always be my Club and I wish everyone connected to Celtic – the Board of Directors, the staff and, of course, the Celtic supporters – every success in the future.”

  22. OGLACH.

I know that he’s gone I heard it on the BBC as I was writing my post,That’s why I called it a day with the post above.

  23. I dont know what to make of all of this – still in shock and have mixed feelings. BR was not happy we couldn’t get the level of player he needed to take the team forward in Europe , he made plenty of smart comments about it and had the media speculating for over a year. Therefore, I’m not surprised.

On the other hand, he is on the verge of history and is a Celtic supporter. He also has a responsibility to the players he signed and developed – the has let every one of them down Imo.

He was a success on the domestic front and poor on the European stage – Lennon is an upgrade!

thanks for the memories Brendan – the good and the bad.

Leaving Celtic will haunt you once you realize money aint everything and mid table is not much coaching fun
